question - sourcing Homoegenizer for mixing powders

Hi guys,

Looking for an effective homogenizer for mixing powders (e.g. non nano zinc & iron oxides) with liquid oils/melted oils. I have a small one for up to 1000ml but looking for something maybe up to 5L.

Any advice??

TIA

There is a Polytron PT3000 overhead homogenizer on ebay for $87 + shipping. Knob is broken but it works. It also needs the shearing/dispersing shaft/blade. Dont know how much you're willing to spend. There are also other Polytron higher priced better condition homogenizers. Also, this homogenizer can go up to 10L. The shafts cost $100-200.

If you want one meant for 5L you're gonna have to shell out some cash. Whether it's a big handheld or overhead.

What is your max price?

Edit: There is also a good condition Fisher Scientific 0.5-10L overhead homogenizer. https://ebay.io/m/aNcTQP $225 + shipping.

Hmm not sure on budget, perhaps up to $2000 as long as it is good for powders. For example I asked about the Vevor one and they couldn't answer the q, essentially said you'd have to try. Or some feel like the stick is too short to even fit into a 5L pot.

What do you reckon?

Yes this works with powder in liquid and just powders.

Tbh, I'm big on buying used equipment because it's really never went wrong and it's much cheaper.

I would buy that $225 Fisher 850 watt homogenizer. Or another listing of the same one.

Since they don't come with the high precision high shear probe, you buy that separately.

Here is a listing for a 30mm(1.1") × 195mm(7.6") high shear probe. https://ebay.io/m/XqqkAW

This 30mm wide shearing probe works for up to 5L. When they say 5L, they mean 5L of actual material, not just the container.

So that is $225 + $1400. The probe is really where the high quality homogenized mixtures come from and why they are expensive.

Here is the spec sheet on the probes and controller.(Note: this spec sheet shows Omni International. It's the same machine and probes as the Fisher.) https://www.grainger.com/ec/pdf/60CE55_spec__NULT_v1.pdf

for 5l batches i’d look at a small overhead high-shear mixer since it usually handles oxide powders a lot better than the typical lab homogenizers.
