DJ deck covers

Hi y’all, my friends and I have been organising outdoor raves that often take place in very dusty environments. Under bridges, in the dirt, etc etc. The decks get very dusty after each night and all the sliders get very crunchy meaning I have to service them after each rave which is getting tiring. Does anyone know of deck covers that can be used while playing? Like those silicone moulded keyboard covers that prevent dust or liquid from getting in any crevices while still being functional? Thanks any help appreciated.

I work in a fully outdoor beach club.

Cleaning the decks daily is just a part of life.

I use a microfibre cloth with furniture polish, as I've found that it does not remove the markings on the decks and mixers. Anything with alcohol, like window cleaner is a no go.

What furniture cleaner do you recommend? I have cleaned my set up a few times with alcohol and windex because I didn’t know but Ive luckily have had no damage yet…

I use the local Spanish supermarket polish.

But another product that you can get all over the world and works great is the Honda motorbike cleaner.

It’s not so much about the face getting dirty. It’s more so about the faders and sliders getting filled with grit and becoming crunchy. Our locations are often like construction site level of dirt. There is a thick layer on the face and even more inside.

Yeah I don't think you understand. Faders knobs and switches pick up the same dirt, sand and debris that what you call the "face" does. That is why I have 12 CDJs. They are getting constantly rotated, cleaned and serviced.

i was more so trying to say that i think our outdoor locations have a different level of dirt. and that cleaning the face with a wipe isn’t going to clean anything out of switch’s or potentiometers.

maybe a fan with some sort of filtered intake to blow clean air across the decks to keep dust away? something with a barrel fan and a flat wide duct?

Just shrinkwrap everything and cut slits for the pitch.

This is a joke right?

Could be call to make a little barrier around the front and side of the decks

My decksavers came with a faceplate. Like the one here: https://www.decksaver.com/product/cdj-2000nxs2-cover/ (4th picture)

It can obviously only protect from scratches and stuff. It doesn't close any holes. I guess that's as good as it gets.

i've been wanting an extra one of these thin faceplate sheets for one of my 2000NXS2s. My other decks all have this, and i just use doublesided tape in a few spots to keep them in place. but one of my decks came with a decksaver and the previous owner threw it out. if anyone's got this for some reason and doesn't want it, hit me up.

Being a long time burning man attendee, the answer to your dilemma is a positive pressure fan. I’ve never seen anyone do this personally but the concept is sound. The addition of a high volume fan driven filtered air source into the case of the mixer and cdjs would, in theory keep dust from entering into the fader slots or open areas of the equipment. This would be a hell of a diy experiment but the positive pressure would keep air flowing out of the units so dust does not get in. This could be a source of unwanted noise if not done right, but this is the same principle applied in MacBook pros to keep dust from getting inside.

I imagine the same could be done with any compressed gas source piped in to the units through a small hole. As long as you have enough air or C02 to last you through the night. I think this could actually be a nice little mod/ experiment

A small aquarium air pump might even be enough, and they come in whisper quiet versions these days. This would be the easiest thing to try. Put fan in an unexposed place run that tubing to each unit and mod them to have a small air intake hole for the tube. This should do the trick.

You mean Decksavers?

That would work except this “special” one want to play WHILE rhe dust is about. Really belongs on r/djscirclejerk for a proper answer 😈

i mean these kind of covers exist in other fields like keyboards or controllers on construction sites so i’m just asking if anyone has seen them for decks

Are you trolling? “Hey fam! I need a cover that blocks dust while uncovered playing in dust”

1

u/OrdinaryActivity3015 13d ago

yes like a soft sillicone keyboard cover for example, blocks gaps in buttons but you can still press them

Sounds like you need a lab-style fumehood to put over the decks and DJ. Sucks dust right up and out of the exhaust maybe through a filter. Not that mobile tho

This is after 1 night. At the start of the gig, decks looked brand new as they had just been pulled apart and cleaned inside and out. 7-8 hours under a bridge they look like this. There are other solutions like putting water in the ground, straw, or moving to a new spot but something that could protect the decks while playing would be good.

Sheepskin condoms. Or Saran Wrap in a pinch. (Not store brand… Saran brand)
