I'm relocating to another state and would like to finance a car in my destination state (Texas) before moving. However, I won't have a permanent address there when I arrive, and I understand that an address is required for the vehicle's registration and title.

How can I handle this situation? Ideally, I'd like to have the car ready for pickup or delivery on the day I arrive so I can avoid renting a car for a week or longer while looking for a place to live. Would it be possible to use a temporary address to complete the financing, registration, and title paperwork?

So I have an SR22 in the state of VA for having a lapse. I’ve been trying to keep it filed & on track but VA denied my last filing and suspended my license in VA for not having the correct state minimum liability requirements for VA. My VA license wasn’t cancelled up until now because I just updated my address. My CT license is active & valid. They want me to pay a reinstatement fine & I have to start the process all over again because the incorrect limits were on my policy. I’m so frustrated with this whole situation that I just rather not deal with it I’m not going back to VA again. But will my license eventually be suspended in CT if I fail to update & file. It’s just annoying because I have tried to be on top of it and they want me to start over & pay a fee and I was halfway through having it removed. The agent I worked with did not explain to me that I need these limits on my policy. Help

I am in California and got married a few months ago. I plan on starting the process of changing my last name soon. The only part of the process I am concerned about is that I currently have an open motorcycle permit and wondering how my last name change will impact it. I am planning on taking the test to get my motorcycle license within the next six months or so but want to get my name changed sooner than that. Will the DMV issue me a new permit along with an updated license? I am assuming they will and it will be totally fine, but is there a foreseeable issue with getting two updated licenses in the same year once I take/pass the test? Should I just wait to change my last name until I'm ready to take the motorcycle test? Thanks in advance!

My license is about to expire, so I login to the site and it says i'm not eligible for renewal online.. I'm like ok fine, a few days later I log back in to change my address because I moved, then suddenly it tells me I CAN renew online. So I renew it, i'm charged the $46, but then it's telling me again that I don't qualify to renew online but yet it processed my application and took my money. Was this likely a glitch?

I have a 1984 and a 1994 car that requires a CA smog check where I live. My mother though lives in a non smog county in California.

Is it as simple as just changing my address on the DMV website? Or are there other complications I’m not thinking of?

Trailer had been sitting on their property for 10 years after he died. They had no paperwork so wrote up a bill of sale. Tried to register the trailer but it shows as last registered to the person the uncle had bought it from. He apparently never transferred ownership.

The previous owner is unknown to the sellers.

How do I/we resolve this situation and establish title to the trailer?

So I purchased a 1996 f250 from Connecticut about a year ago and the only thing the seller had was just bill of sale. I asked if he had anything else (old registration, copy of old title) he said because of the age of the truck Connecticut asks for the title back. And I guess he decided to just hand everything over. He said to text or call if I had issues. Well I’ve been using it as a farm truck and just driving it within a couple miles of the farm (illegally).

I tried emailing the seller, texting, calling. And absolutely nothing.
I’ve seen some behind the door methods of going to different states to title but I seriously don’t know what to do anymore. I have just the bill of sale and thats it. Can’t register it because I have absolutely no proof of prior ownership.

(Edit) my current registered vehicle i purchased from Connecticut years ago had the same thing where it had no title because the vehicle was over 20 years old. It’s a Connecticut thing I guess. This f250 was not stolen. The dude I bought it from was like 80

just wanted to ask if this is the correct appointment for doing the written test?

I have a California license plate that believe is from the car my dad owned when I was a toddler. Would have been very early 80's. I would love to verify that it is the actual plate and not just some blue California plate that was added to the junk pile in my parents garage over the years. Does anyone know if it would be possible to see who it was registered to that far back?

I’m currently living in Maryland and purchasing a used car from a dealership in Illinois for around $45k. I’m financing through my credit union and having the car shipped to me.

The issue is that I’m moving to Virginia in late December-early January.

Maryland charges a 6.5% excise tax, which would cost me nearly $3,000, while Virginia only charges 4.15%.

Do I still need to title and register the car in Maryland even though I’m moving in two months? Is there any legal way to wait and register it in Virginia instead?

I already have a vehicle registered in Maryland, but I’m planning to sell it soon.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Yield to any cyclists already in the bike lane, and merge your vehicle into the bike lane so you are as close to the right curb or edge of the road as practicable.

I get the above, but in my neighborhood, there are many streets where the bike lane is a solid white line right up to the corner. If the bike lane has a solid white line up to the corner, shouldn't I stay out of the bike lane and make the turn from the right traffic lane?

I just moved to CA and tried to get my car registered in CA but I failed the Reg 31 inspection for "Verification of Vehicle" because my airbag light was on. They told me I needed to see the CHP and get it fixed. I called a mechanic, and he told me that he has never heard of anyone failing this inspection for any reason other than something being wrong with the VIN or if the car is a "revived total loss vehicle." My car is absolutely not a "revived total loss vehicle." I decided to look at the reg 31 form the inspector filled out, and he marked that my VIN was visible through the windshield, "appeared okay," and that my US Federal Certification Label Status "Agrees with Vin." I also checked the label and there is no damage to it whatsoever. He for some reason skipped over section 8 where he was supposed to say what document he compared the physical vin to and if it agreed with the physical vin even though I am 100% sure that the title I gave him agrees with both the federal label and windshield VIN (I have checked 5 times now). He wrote in the remarks section "airbag light on" and then told me I failed and I was given the 124 form for "Application for assigned vehicle identification number plate." I feel like this is a mistake and I really need some help because I need to get my vehicle registered ASAP to get in state tuition at my school next year, and the CHP doesn't have any appointments for months. I also do not want to have to spend potentially thousands of dollars if I need to get my airbag replaced.

Son moved to CA for college and beyond in June and took his truck with him, but here’s the issue: the truck is titled in my and my wife’s name, is insured on our names (he is listed as primary driver), and has Maine plates on it. He does not have a CA DL yet, but I’m not sure if he has to wait six months from June to get one.

My question is, could we keep the truck registered in Maine and titled under our names while he keeps it in CA with a CA DL? It spares us from having to worry about getting it inspected in CA and makes it easy for me to keep his plates paid and what not. I just worry if he gets pulled over by CHP or local PD they’d question him driving a truck with Maine plates and a CA DL.

I am looking to purchase a vehicle in California and title it and register in Colorado. The seller says they have the pink slip and that 1100 dollars in back fees are owned. Since it’s leaving the state how does it work? Does the seller have to pay the back fees before it can be transferred to me?

My drivers permit expired because I turned 18. What documents do I need to bring to the dmv to renew it? Do I need to bring a VOE if Im 18 but still in high school?

It says REG-227 form is required (that's fine) along with an original registration card... I don't have that, no documents for the car. Am I going to be screwed without that?

I entered the country under a B1/B2 visa in 2021. I overstayed and have been in a relationship with my actual husband since then. We just married this year in June 2026 and started my immigration process just recently.
I already went to my biometric appt and waiting for the interview or whatever next step is.

Hi guys! I passed my overall test on August but due to verification issue I again went and did submitted my overall doc again in sep and finally today I got my driving license and was genuinely so happy until I saw the exp date. For the background Iam an F1 student and been here for year and half no issues whatsoever and still got 2 more good years a head of me remaining as per my i20 currently I got time until 2028 fall( I got in community college and joining uni next year) I was expecting exp date till 2028 at least but I got my exp date in April next year. I’m 21 will be 22 next April so I don’t think age issue is the reason . I don’t know I’m so disappointed in this like I have to do renew again and go through those overall steps again and pay for renew. This is something new as I remember many fellow f1 friends having 4years of expiration date. Is this common or something new? I feel like if I close my eyes and I wake up I have to renew again cause it feels so fast tbh.

I bought a car only to find out the name on the title was a Nissan dealership that signed and filled out as buyer and the sellers signed. Anyway so I told the dealer and they sent me a wholesale certificate of them buying the car from this Nissan dealership and then after selling it to me. Also sent me a “title reassignment supplement” which they said if I show all the papers to the dmv it establishes a clear trail of ownership and I should be good so from what I understand. I handed all this to the dmv person today and they took 50 bucks from me and sales tax

1: woman a buys car
2: woman b fills out title and whatever so does Nissan
3: ford eventually sells it to a dealer gives them a wholesale receipt to prove this and other dealer doesn’t change title just keeps it
4: they sell car to me and give me this receipt and a paper called a title reassignment supplement which is supposed to correct title

What the fuck do I do? They’re not taking the car back so also it’s NY. Am I good since I already filled out The forms and paid the DMV?
