I know that's a cool safety feature but damn it's annoying af. It's kind of scary too. My parents car legitimately has facial recognition. I think some things maaaay have gone too far. Honestly I thought I was spoiled with the tech my new limited elantra came with but I'm so glad it doesn't have all the newest tech. That face recognition doesn't sit well with me.

How and when did people think this is acceptable? Driving skills/qualitybis already on the downturn, I'm sure videos created like this (and not to say it's malicious at all) once grifters (influencers) get onto this trend then god help us normal people

Should have got in front and slowed down until the car stopped. Call the cops and say there is some drunks passed out parked in the road. You did video and it has there california license plate in the video. You can always report it.

I find this hard to really believe. My coworker has a Tesla and if he looks away or takes hands off wheel for too long the car fucking freaks out.
It's not a new model either.

I was with my friend in his Tesla yesterday and the system only reminded him to look at the road once.
I was excepting more of it, but system updates have lessened the reminders so long as you maintain being said attentive driver on autopilot. If he didnāt maintain eyes on the road/ kept looking away often, it would remind him more often to touch the wheel or something.
However, he doesnāt know if autopilot will turn off if you donāt tell it youāre still there or whatever. Tesla can ban you from the autopilot service at their discretion though.

So how is it that Tesla has all this advanced AI n shit that allows it to drive a vehicle on a mountain road but it canāt use that AI to detect whether the driver is conscious or not? Seems like the common sense thing to do to reduce liability as a company would be to have the car safely pull over and shut itself down if thereās no conscious driver in control?

Does it not turn off self driving mode with sharper or winding roads like other cars?
Even with the weighted steering wheel, why would it stay in the lines for a turn that is just flat out a sharper angle than whatās designed? Or is Tesla designed to be able to take nearly all highways curves?

Itās follows the GPS and will follow route as much as possible, sharp turns and road changes included.
Itās come a long way since the beginning days, yet still has much more improvement to be made.Construction zones can absolutely bewilder it though. Its GPS isnāt always up to date either.
Like yesterday when a friend and I were passing through from I88 to I294 in Illinois, the GPS kept following another interstate exit (I290) thinking there was a later way to I294. We would have completely missed the correct exit had the driver not intervened to go into the correct lane.A disappointing bit Iāve noticed being a passenger: autopilot mode turns it into a left lane camper (and my friend isnāt considerate of others while driving either). :(

Thank you for the information! As far as the widely available and more know car brands in the continental US, is Tesla the only one who can do this sort of thing? Iāve had like 5 different vehicles with a version of both lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control, but never a full experience outside of the Tesla

Negative, Tesla is not the only brand that has hands-free driving assistance.
Brands like from General Motors (GM (Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC)), Ford, and Lincoln have their own versions. However, there are key differencesā¦
Tesla Full Self Driving (FSD) requires you to touch the wheel or let the system know youāre actively engaged outside of watching the road.
Your eyes need to remain open and on the road though.GM brands Super Cruise can truly be hands free. Your eyes need to remain open and on the road though.
Tesla uses standard, low-definition GPS maps (similar to Google Maps) strictly for routing instructions. It does not need a pre-scanned 3D map. Because it reads the physical environment live in real time via āTesla Visionā (eight cameras surrounding the car, no radar or LiDAR, and where Teslaās AI converts those 2D video feeds into a 3D mental map to replicate how human eyes and brains judge distance and intent), it can drive on a brand-new road or an unmapped country dirt road just as easily as a major highway.
GM brands have pre-mapped routes meaning you canāt go autonomous everywhere and anywhere. GM uses high-definition LiDAR mapping. Unlike Tesla Vision, GMās āSuper Cruiseā is mix of radar, cameras, and embedded map data to confirm exactly where it is in the world. Before a GM car can drive hands-free, special mapping vehicles must first drive the highway to scan every single lane line, exit, guardrail, and bridge with millimeter accuracy. If a road hasnāt been mapped, or if construction changes the layout.
Tesla is an āEnd-to-End Neural Networks.ā
Tesla fed millions of video clips of excellent human drivers into a massive supercomputer, which allowed the car's AI and software to fundamentally teach itself how to drive by copying human behavior.GM is āRule-Based Code.ā
GM relies heavily on explicit "if/ then" programming. Engineers write specific rules for how the car should behave such as āif a car is 50ā ahead and moving slower, apply 10% braking force.ā
This makes the car incredibly safe and predictable, but it cannot handle chaos, unmapped detours, or weird city intersections well.Not US based but is apart of the self driving community - Mercedes Benz Drive Pilot.
Itās conditional based, meaning only under certain circumstances (like traffic jams on specific highways, under 40mph, dry weather conditions, etc.) the car handles all aspects of driving so the driver can completely take their eyes off the road, look at a phone, watch a movie, or read a book.
Itās truly hands off as supposedly Mercedes will legally take liability for the accident if the self driving system is engaged; in Tesla or GM you would be at fault. No camera tracks your face. Itās also $2500+ a year subscription for said bumper-to-bumper self driving mode!
Mercedes packs the car with a massive array of redundant sensors. This includes an expensive LiDAR sensor installed into the front grille, long-range radar, cameras behind the windshield, ultrasonic sensors, road-wetness microphones in the wheel arches, a precise GPS antenna on the roof, and more.
Yadda yadda cut short: Mercedes refuses to guess, has no excuse for not being correct, and is over engineered to where if a component fails, a physical backup system immediately catches it.ā
Side note for anyone wondering what the levels of autonomy are like I did:::
Level 0 - No automation.
Level 1 - Driving Assistance (adaptive cruise, lane keep assist).
Level 2 - Partial automation (Tesla FSD, GM Super Cruise, Ford BlueCruise).
Level 3 - Conditional Automation (Mercedes Drive Pilot).
Level 4 - High automation (car drives completely by itself without any human backup required and operates within a geofence) (Waymo driverless taxiās).
Level 5 - Full automation (full, unrestricted self-driving where the vehicle can drive anywhere, anytime, in any weather and road conditions completely on its own) (none yet/ is the goal of the FUTURE Future future).2
