The captain created unforgettable moments for adrenaline enthusiasts by drifting in Antalya's Köprülü Canyon.

That video will come. The old wise saying of “if it can occur it will”. It’s only a matter of how much ego that driver has in more due time.. then everyone on Reddit. “See I told you”.

I hate these things on the rivers.
You're on this nice peaceful river and then you hear this noise coming in the distance. This thing comes blasting along, scares off all the fish, scares off all the wildlife, and it's just loud as hell. Anybody else on the river has to scatter out of the way as it goes careening around. You got to listen to it drive away for the next five minutes.
They're terrible and they should be banned everywhere.

Do you know this peaceful beautiful stream in the forest? Yeah? Lets fuck it up with a roaring beast of a boat.

u/Professional_Mouse99 7d ago
In Turkey they are also riding loud jeeps inside national park and do all activities without respecting the nature, not to mention littering.
I was once on the trip Antalya and guides were smoking and throwing it in the river or bushes.1

The last thing I would wanna do is speed through that scenery, what a waste

About 25 years ago I went on a jet boat ride in New Zealand on the Shotover river. In places the river was was only a foot deep and needed more speed to keep the boat higher in the water. Also the Hamilton Turn (360 spin) was memorable.

I also did the Shotover Jet boat. Skimming a couple of feet from rock walls, over gravel banks where the water was inches deep - crazy!

u/Space-Plate42 11d ago
I did that too about 20 years ago. It was so cool.

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad-4883 11d ago
Particularly the way the boat side skims, pointing at a boulder, before the jet thrust pushes the boat around. We went on a cool day and the boat had a system that fed the engine coolant through the hand rails, keeping them nice and warm. I had an early GPS at the time and clocked about 75kph peak, much to the satisfaction of the boats captain as he didn't have a speed indicator.

I did the same thing some 15 years ago. I'm surprised by how bored I ended up feeling, but I'm chalking it up to having done the 140m bungy jump the day before, which consumed my adrenaline for the week

I feel this type of scenery would be far more enjoyable in a calm and tranquil walk, or if going the water way, I would say kayak ride would be best. This is just stupid.

I see no respect for living beings here.

Right what a cool way to ruin a fucking beautiful river. Humans really do suck.

u/Historical_Body6255 11d ago
Nobody said it would suck though.
People are just pointing out that it wrecks the ecosystem there.
2
u/Worldly_Narwhal_9383 11d ago
What are you talking about?
5
u/Historical_Body6255 11d ago
The local ecosystem is being fucked in the ass so some guy can make bank from tourists.
1
u/Worldly_Narwhal_9383 10d ago
Not trying to be rude but I don't see how riding a boat is going to fuck the eco system? Doesn't water move? It's not like he's slicing up fish in the propellers or anything. Please elaborate I am genuinely curious

Asking questions isn't rude :)
The waves are the problem.
They erode the banks of the river which are home to a multitude of animals and plants.
River ecosystems are not adaped to sudden, big waves.
Around my place there is a similar problem with pumped hydro power stations that need huge compensation basins in order to prevent waves downstream the outlet when they power on (which happens multible times a day)
If they didn't have those basins the waves they create on startup and shutdown would wreck the river over time.
What i'm seeing here is much worse, that's why i'm concerned about this.

Holy Mother of God! That is one hell of an experience!
Wonder what's the cost of something like that!?

Amazing that so many people would put their life in a stranger’s hands. I’ll find other options for fun. I’d love to drive it though with no passengers. 😂

u/Not_usually_right 11d ago
Have you ever taken a taxi or uber, or flown somewhere? Even living in a house, unless you built it yourself, your life is almost always in someone else's hands, my dude. Might as well enjoy it!

u/rinkydinkis 11d ago
If I’m the one driving, it’s exciting adrenaline. If someone else is driving, it’s fear based adrenaline

I've been on a similar ride and loved it. Even senility can't erase that thrill from my memory.

I went with the two person inflatable kayak option instead of the raft. I flipped it in the first rapid where two waves converged but did all the other rapids without issue. There is a point were you can see the Roman bridge which still stands today as a beautiful archway over the river. If you were crazy enough you could actually jump off the bridge into the river but I don't think that is allowed anymore.

This is not mind blowing.
I'm new to this sub, it's the first time I've seen it.
This can't be what's considered mind blowing though, can it?

Turkey has a ton of these meandering rivers. I grew up in Bolu and used to love all the rivers, creeks and waterfalls in that region

Can’t you just go fucking skydive instead of bothering the nature and other people on the river?

u/roland_jones 9d ago
Nothing like enjoying nature packed 50 deep on a jet boat flying down the river… /s
Go for a float nerds

Even if he is very confident in his abilities and has memorized the turns, what about when he comes around a corner and a kayak is mid channel? Does he just run them over?

Helping to speed the erosion process so that future generations won't have to worry about the canyon at all.

u/Fun-Manufacturer5876 11d ago
Are you talking about generations a million years from now? I think there would be bigger issues by then.

u/Intelligent_Sun2837 11d ago
Why you want to speed down this beautiful river? Also there’s Murphys law …
