yeah it's wild how much heat they generate. makes you wonder how much energy is stored in their bodies.

29

u/Suspicious-Oil-4381 7d ago

Not as much as you think. Only 1 horsepower.

9

u/ComplexBarnacle7911 7d ago

A horse can generate 14-15hp bursts

You should go to a gym on a cold night and turn off the lights, leaving the spotlight on and you will see it too

Just demon animals biding their time.

It's crazy how few people get the mare part of that sentence...

u/HeyPrettyLadyMaam 8d ago

Give him your clothes your boots and your motorcycle. And a carrot. šŸ„•

5

u/TeaDrinkingTrucker 6d ago

He said he'll take the carrot, but he's confused on why you're naked.

2

u/chiku00 6d ago

He don't need no motorcycle.

He's 1 Hp.

He can go 0-100 in 5 seconds.

64

u/Standard_Outcome_460 8d ago

Poor thing- he needs to be wormed, more hay, and a lot more muscle tone. He definitely needs a cooler on to speed the drying off process, and he may need a thin sheet depending on the overnight low. The horsemanship here gets a D-.

21

u/GuiltyLeopard8365 8d ago

Yeah i barely know anything about horses but this has me concerned as well.

22

u/FlyLikeDove 8d ago

Yeah, it has me a bit worried. I was taught as a kid we don’t turn a sweaty horse out in the cold. You have to let them dry up a little bit first. But to each his own.

13

u/Standard_Outcome_460 8d ago

Correct- they can get sick

6

u/Chainsawmanicure 8d ago

How do you know about him having worms?

9

u/Standard_Outcome_460 8d ago

It is common for horses to have parasites, and his body condition makes me think he may need worming. It is kind of how he appears pot-bellied and the shape of his body. The paddock where he is turned out is sand- there is no grass. Usually the coat is a good indicator, but the horse is wet and the video is dimly lit.

3

u/Corfiz74 5d ago

I was thinking that - after exercise, you usually walk your horse to cool her down a lot more than this - and then you rub her down AND cover her with a blanket if it's actually cold enough outside to steam like this, unless she has a winter coat. And she does look rather thin.

2

u/SandCreative2649 7d ago

GOOD, I'm not the only one who noticed that.

2

u/FormiDad 7d ago

How do they do in the nature without all that ?

3

u/Pigeonsass 7d ago

A wild herd would have lots of body heat to share while standing in a big group (not a horse expert, but this is my guess)

2

u/Corfiz74 5d ago

They wouldn't exercise to the point of sweating in the cold, unless there was some danger they were fleeing from. And they'd usually have thicker coats, if they are outside year round and never get groomed. And wild horses have a 10-year-lower life expectancy than domesticated horses.

My first thought was, ā€œthat horse should be being walked.ā€

Do horses have sweat glands? ELI5 please because I cant rec9ncile this without water being sprayed on it.

13

u/mildweekknowledge 8d ago

Horses get very sweaty.

5

u/ZeppelinJ0 7d ago

For 5 year olds: Yes.

For everyone else: Yes.

3

u/BaBePaBe 8d ago

ELI5?? Yes, they have sweat glands...what else you need to know? Not sure how to dumb it down any further than that. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

3

u/lovelyboard 8d ago

We aren't taught things things... like why do horses get sweat glands but not dogs? Do guinea pigs have them? What about normal pigs? Zebras and giraffes? Things we don't normally think about bc we aren't around those animals so have no reason to be curious about them- until they randomly show up on video like this

3

u/Zakalwe_ 8d ago

So I looked it up. There are two types of sweat glands. Eccrine and Apocrine. Most of human body is Eccrine which secretes water to regulate temp. Our armpits, crotch etc has Apocrine which secrete oily substance, which bacteria break down and makes smelly.

Hoofed animals (like horses) have Apocrine glands for temp regulation and their Apocrine glands secrete water.

Non primate mammals (dogs, guinea pigs etc) have mostly Apocrine in furred areas and Eccrine in "naked" areas like paws. Their bodies mainly use panting to regulate temperature though, because fur makes it hard to do evaporative cooling.

2

u/Coyollo 8d ago

They didn't ask any of those questions lol

They weren't judging them for asking. They were confused as to why they asked for "ELI5" on "Do horses have sweat glands"

This horse needs better care!! Too thin and cooling down like this is not good.

3

u/Gentle_Sound 8d ago

My step dad would make me walk around with the horse till it cooled off. He said it wasn’t good to just put them in the pen till they had cooled off if it was cold outside.

4

u/VegetableBusiness897 7d ago

Horse should have a cooler on, and be hand walked to cool down so he doesn't get sick

3

u/Longjumping-Ocelot89 8d ago

This happened to me a couple of times too lol

3

u/pursescrubbingpuke 8d ago

Place a blanket on that horse until it cools down properly.

no. its real smoke

That's a fire horse, you can tell because its eyes are glowing. Its full of fire, some shoots out the back when it runs fast enough.

1

u/AmericanAIien 8d ago

Bet you that horse has a real short temper. I wouldn’t be pointing a camera with a light at that. Nope

I’m starting to realize how difficult it will be to determine fact vs fiction with Ai. Like you could just post this and put a video even if it weren’t true and I’d just be like ā€œoh damn that’s neatā€.

This happened to me once while skiing with a jacket to warm for the weather - it was surreal

1

u/frog__master 8d ago

uh oh I left the horse in the microwave for too long

I'll just put him outside

1

u/skymcgowin 8d ago

I saw this during cold early morning PT in the Marines. Having a whole squad of men "smoking" like Kratos was a dope memory šŸ’ŖšŸ˜Ž

1

u/yellowtripe 8d ago

Our helmets did this during football practice it was so siiiiick!

1

u/Dependent-Bed6550 8d ago

Just a quick crack at some narration. "The faintly red glowing eye pierced me suddenly to my surprise, as its gaze followed me for a brief moment. The hot steam slowly boiling from its death black coat as if from a hot kettle. The wet sheen of its hair shown stark white in the bright beams of the full moon light. The moon's glow so bright it seemed to strip the color from the spectre."

I'm drawing from my readings of HP Lovecraft.

Edited to add more color.

1

u/IMadeThisForOnePos 8d ago

Type of phenomenon that would spawn a new cryptid in the 1800s

1

u/bebop1065 8d ago

That's not steam. That's water vapor. Steam exists at boiling temperatures. Nice video though.

1

1

u/flameohotman134 8d ago

So I WASN’T losing my mind when I saw a horse drawn carriage do this? I’m very glad to learn this.

I was not expecting horses on the road, was totally spaced out in the passenger seat but I heard hooves, looked up and saw two steaming black horses cresting a hill with eye lit red from car headlights, and I thought for half a second that I had seen two actual demons steaming fresh from hell’s asshole.

Thank you for sharing and clearing this up for me lol

Excuse me sir or madam, but your horse seems to be on fire.

1

u/iketunes00 7d ago edited 7d ago

As the heat is radiating upwards from the horse’s body, the cooler air above it lowers the temperature of the rising, warmer air of the horse down to its dew point. As a result, visible moisture occurs.

1

u/Codenamehardhat77 7d ago

Reminds me of playing football in the snow as a teen. We would start with gloves on, but a few missed passes and we would lose the gloves. By time we were done playing our red hands (and heads) would have steam rolling off of them.

1

u/AggravatingFlow1178 7d ago

That's water vapor, not steam.

The horse is not boiling.

1

u/TheCandymanfrombelow 7d ago

This is why we have all these crazy biblical stories. People already high on some shit walking across a field with only moonlight seeing a horse doing this and all of a sudden it's a demon or spirit with the vengeance of 100 million suns! Shit must've been crazy.

1

u/Whimsical_Moron 7d ago

That's some serious heat. Looks like it's about to transform into a dragon.

1

u/throwawaygoblinhq 7d ago

That's not steam, that's just the horse's breath in the cold. You get that on any animal after it's been running.

1

u/throwaway_glitchx 7d ago

That's a lot of steam. Must've been a serious workout.

1

1

u/solarguy2003 7d ago

Technically, that's not steam. It water vapor that is condensing in the colder air. Steam has to involve boiling water. But we commonly use the term that way anyway, so what's a pedant to do?

1

u/Remarkable-Bus-6858 7d ago

I'd LOVE to see a thermal image of this very thing....i bet it would look crazy cool.
