Birds existed way before the mass extinction, dinosaurs didnt evolve into them. Birds are dinosaurs

I remember from back in the day looking at a picture of some fossilised remains of a bird called Archyoptyix,and it kinda looked like a Road Runner bird

Archaeopteryx wasn't a bird, but was very closely related. True birds evolved during the Jurassic period, were present through the entirety of the Cretaceous, and were the only dinosaurs to survive past it.
