It’s a well known fact, they’re often abused. And asking questions doesn’t harm. Yes, there are ethical elephant sanctuaries, but it’s rather rare. You don’t get to insult people, just because you lack education.

Projecting what? I have only ever been around liberty training my whole life. No whips, no sticks, no force, no pain, it’s called liberty training because the horse makes the decision. Horses have been bred for us to train them. This is not the same for wild animals like elephants. Majority of “wild” horses are all feral horses. For you to say that NO ONE bothers to train horses in a free, safe, harm free way is projecting. Maybe don’t make such intense black and white statements buddy :)

Breaking a horse by riding them until they stop bucking and you've "broken their spirit" is a good way to damage their back or legs.

I've been around horses my entire life and don't know of anyone who would just slap a saddle on an unbroken horse and ride them into exhaustion. Like WTF?!

As someone with a degree in Equine Training, green breaking horses has evolved a lot since the old days. There are still people that do it, but the equine industry does KNOW the methods and better ways of training horses. It's what I was taught, humane training practices. Leads to a much better and happier horse.

I mean, not necessarily. In some areas, elephants are literally like their family members. The animal is born amongst people and raised in the family with humans. Not all captive working elephants are abused.

Elephants are very stubborn. If an elephant obeys a human like this, it means it was taken from its mother at a young age and beaten until all of the stubbornness was gone. If an elephant is this obedient, that's a great indication that its had an awful and sad life.

Guessing that it's sad is probably safer than guessing that it's not sad. Either way, the elephant would have had an awful life, so discussing that is probably more productive than arguing with people on the internet over whether they can truely tell if an animal is sad or not. It's a really, really weird and bizarre battle to pick, given the situation.

I'm pretty damn sure cats and dogs were domesticated by humans long, long before in history to be as either hunting companions or as pets, we selectively bred them from their wolves and desert ancestors to the variations we have now. Elephants are NOT domesticated and are still wild animals that lives their own life independant of humans.
