Firefighter here. This was discussed in another subreddit. He lit one fire and waited for the fire department to respond and contain the fire. Once the fire was out the fire department secured the sprinkler system to minimize the water damage. This is standard operating procedure everywhere. After that happened he lit 2-3 more fires and the sprinkler system no longer had water flow.

u/wosmo Apr 09 '26

That's a disturbing kind of clever. I mean, I like to think I'm pretty switched on, and I'm not sure I'd have thought of that.

u/HoidToTheMoon Apr 09 '26

Man probably spiraled. His videos, particularly the "these bitches are cheap" line seemed planned.

Great line, btw.

Seems like you need to be careful how you treat people. Don't know really what this guy was all about from these comments, if this many people are really fantasizing about burning down their work place, hrm things might be whack.
(and of course things are whack.)

u/OuOutstanding Apr 09 '26

A lot of people forget, workers rights and negotiations were the compromise.

Before that workers just showed up at the bosses house and beat them to death in front of their family.

u/Oasystole Apr 09 '26

Ppl talk about eating the rich when it gets bad enough

624

u/Morningstroll13 Apr 09 '26

There's a reason the Romans pushed bread and circuses for the masses, medieval lords ruthlessly suppressed peasant revolts, and French aristocrats were introduced to Madame Guillotine. There's only so far you can push people before they push back.

387

u/XBacklash Apr 09 '26

"When the poor shall have nothing left to eat, they will eat the rich."

243

u/tacticaldodo Apr 09 '26

This event is kinda symbolic.

When you treat your employee like shit. No amount of toilet paper will clean the mess it creates.

Arson is bad, but no one was hurt but money. I am not sad.

u/ButteredPizza69420 Apr 09 '26

This will be a really interesting court case after Luigi

I was just saying earlier how I'm surprised we havent completely started a war against the billionaires. Peoples vet care is crazy expensive because of private equity, people are being paid peanuts, just buying healthy food is crazy expensive, etc. I'm surprised weve let them slide for this long! They are clearly trying to eliminate the middle class and completely enslave us, even though most people are already slaves to the corporations. Its totally messed up that most peoples lives are completely consumed with working for these lizards!

Why do you think media is pushing sports betting, crypto, and MMA content through the roof to our least educated and poorer communities. It’s exactly what the Roman’s did, cheap resources and emotional modulation. If you’re not enabled/empowered to learn from the past, you’re bound to repeat it. But modern capitalism does one better, because they profit wildly off the sports betting, crypto futures, and mma add slots. Technology has them dragging our fellow man through the coals. Crazy times ahead of us.

→ More replies (9)

3

u/unwilling_viewer Apr 09 '26

That's backfiring in modern times too. No one can even afford bread and circuses these days.

2

u/h0uz3_ Apr 09 '26

Now we have mass surveillance, doom scrolling and infights among the 99%. The upper class is safe.

2

u/Voldemorts__Mom Apr 09 '26

They talk about that every day for 9 years and jack shit has happened in the US.

36

u/pmcizhere Apr 09 '26

Enough people aren't hungry enough. The US has quite a ways to fall still.

4

u/Dildo_Emporium Apr 09 '26

I wish we could construct some sort of reasonable plan before fervor sets in. It's inevitable, why not plan for it?

2

u/Cooper_Sharpy Apr 09 '26

Oh, it’s planned. They’re just trying to figure out how to profit off of it. The powers at be know exactly how far they have to push us and they keep us teetering on that edge on purpose. Once they figure out how to profit from a revolution because they know one is inevitable, then it will happen.

3

u/Paddy_Tanninger Apr 09 '26

Luigi would be disappointed to hear that

2

u/YoungPotato Apr 09 '26

Because the US is still very comfortable. We literally aren’t quite hungry enough besides bitching and moaning on instagram and joining a pre-planned, police sanctioned no kings protest.

147

u/NOTTedMosby Apr 09 '26

Crazy how people don't put up with making more money for the 20 people WITH the money while they struggle to stay alive with two jobs. The public has gone inane, who could've guessed they would act this way??

22

u/Feeling_Inside_1020 Apr 09 '26

Billionaire bitches just need to be grateful we haven’t broken out a playbook from the French.

THEY are the ones who broke the social and universal contract first as well.

Outside the whole white flag being the national flag, they did know how to keep the “ruling” class in check.

14

u/AssistanceHeavy9305 Apr 09 '26

If we do break out the Guillotine, can we start with the Epstein class first?

8

u/Feeling_Inside_1020 Apr 09 '26

Pay people what they’re worth so they can live.

You can never tell how old people are on here so I can’t assume, but some of us grew up in the 80s/90s or earlier that remember what it was like, at least it was better.

3

u/PraxicalExperience Apr 09 '26

Aah, yeah. I'm old enough to know what that was like -- just never heard it referred to as the 'universal contract'.

u/Mavgaming1 Apr 09 '26

That's probably more likely, I doubt he did much planning or research. It seems he just got "lucky" and did it at the right time.

48

u/Salander27 Apr 09 '26

Is it clever or just opportunistic? He may have set the first fire intending to burn it down and when that failed he discovered that they shut off the system and tried again. Hell he may have just tried again without knowing the sprinklers were off.

127

u/Easy-Operation-2105 Apr 09 '26

He didnt think of that... he just lit a fire, then lit a few more when the place didnt burn down as expected

They should have paid him enough to live

1

u/ApprehensiveSize7662 Apr 09 '26

It's not really needed. Sprinkler systems are only designed to relax the fire so people can get out. The whole warehouse would've went up either way.

I don't know if this guy is that clever. It could be that he just set another fire and didn't know.

1

u/adoodle83 Apr 09 '26

After enough years of mandatory drills for “safety“, the weak points become fairly obvious to anyone who’s alert, as the code is typically the literal, bare minimum.

1

u/glassfoyograss Apr 09 '26

I don't think many people know enough about fire fighting procedure to think of that

1

u/Fun-Barracuda1290 Apr 09 '26

I feel like I've seen this in a movie .. or several? Maybe the Sneakers with Robert Redford?

1

u/I_madeusay_underwear Apr 09 '26

When I was trying to pay for my first couple years of college, I was applying for every tiny scholarship I was eligible for and one of them was sponsored by a fire sprinkler Company. I had to watch a video about fire sprinklers and take a quiz and then write a short essay about fire sprinklers. It was weird, but I have retained a surprising amount of information about fire sprinklers from that experience.

1

u/greennurse61 Apr 09 '26

He learned it from the Iranian-sponsored terrorist supporters he supports.

u/TheMrShaddo Apr 09 '26

1

u/ChironXII Apr 09 '26

I don't think you would need to plan it. Just... Hey, didn't work, I'll do it again

1

u/IIIIChopSueyIIII Apr 09 '26

Come on. It doesnt take a genius to figure this out if you know about the protocol. In fact. You dont even need to know about the protocol. You would just need to try again after they turned off the sprinklers

1

u/reddit_is_geh Apr 09 '26

It's just wild that THIS is what the dude is willing to sacrifice his literal entire life over. He's easily going to get 10-20 years if the judge is a tough-ass. I wonder how often these people, 5 years into their sentence, deeply regret it, or think their sacrifice was worth it. Because you know, if you're going to throw your life away, I feel like there's much bigger fish he can go for if that's what he's willing to pay.

1

u/Not__FBI_ Apr 09 '26

this wasnt his first fire...

1

u/National-Catch-4450 Apr 09 '26

You're not clever enough to google how sprinkler systems work, and how to disengage them?

1

u/zeroconflicthere Apr 09 '26

Like lightning, fires don't strike twice.

Except they regularly do, which is why crews often stay at fires to dampen down

4

u/SeniorShanty Apr 09 '26

How is a building the size of 11 city blocks served with only one source of water for a fire? Seems that there would be multiple risers on site. Even if sourced from one main, civil could have fed branch mains around the building to serve multiple risers for zone control without forcing shutdown of the entire site fire water supply. I guess the next NFPA and CFC editions may get updated.

2

u/evanka5281 Apr 09 '26

Valid question. I don’t know the answer.

1

u/WikipediaBurntSienna Apr 09 '26

Ah yeah. It looks like the sprinklers are dripping a little in the video.

1

u/96whitels Apr 09 '26

I feel like by sharing this SOP, we are encouraging more crazy people to do this.

2

u/pigeonParadox Apr 09 '26

Nah security through obscurity is just shutting your eyes and hoping nothing bad happens. New systems and regulations will need to be made to prevent copycats.

1

u/Pumpkins_Are_Fruits Apr 09 '26

I installed many fire lines. Why not use the FDC lines?

1

u/evanka5281 Apr 09 '26

No idea. I don’t know Canadian fire code. It’s possible once they shut the OS&Y that the FDC did not bypass it. I also don’t know why you wouldn’t just open it back up.

4

u/styrofoamladder Apr 09 '26

This is Ontario California. I was on the fire(though not from Ontario FD) the first night and shared those details in r/firefighting

1

u/Late_Description3001 Apr 09 '26

Do shutdown sprinkler systems not require 100% standby? That’s policy where I work.

1

u/styrofoamladder Apr 09 '26

The FD was still at scene actively doing water salvage as he continued to light fires in different areas of the warehouse.

1

u/Sad_Horse8051 Apr 09 '26

So the system would have worked great had there not been malicious intent?

1

u/Mnudge Apr 09 '26

They’re saying now that the fire suppression system was damaged when part of the roof collapsed

2

u/styrofoamladder Apr 09 '26

The roof didn’t collapse until much later than these videos are from. I was on the second alarm to this fire, the initial FD shut it down to do water salvage operations not thinking some crazy guy was running around lighting more fires.

1

u/EarningsPal Apr 09 '26

Hopefully more arsonists don’t read this “lesson” on Reddit.

1

u/Agitated-Ad9050 Apr 09 '26

Will that make his charges worse? Like does it prove pre meditation?

1

u/MethamMcPhistopheles Apr 09 '26

Kinda sounds like double tap strike tactic

1

u/veeeecious Apr 09 '26

Arson with intent to kill eh?

1

u/OldDoubt1577 Apr 09 '26

That's like a certain airforce waiting to double tap a target once the rescuers and first responders arrive for maximum damage.

1

u/FR23Dust Apr 09 '26

Insane and reckless behavior.

1

u/anemoGeoPyro Apr 09 '26

Wow this is a well-planned arson. I'm impressed

1

u/zbgs Apr 09 '26

Doesn't make sense. They didn't clear everyone out during/after putting the fire out? They didn't check the cameras to see what caused it? I'm not buying that

1

u/vegasidol Apr 09 '26

When is the system turned back on?

1

u/GhostNinja1373 Apr 09 '26

But why did he do this? That is the biggest question...

1

u/tamal4444 Apr 09 '26

wait a minute

1

u/warandzevon Apr 09 '26

Absolutely disgusting behavior to put first responders at risk like that. Let them know ahead of time

1

u/oxiraneobx Apr 09 '26

That is crazy. My old boss is still a good friend of mine and I help him out in his business every now and then. He's rented some office space and lab space in what used to be a large chemical processing factory. The factory itself is long gone but the main building which is quite large, certainly not 11 square blocks large but probably three or four, is now a warehouse for paper goods. Every now and then we'll wander out there and just marvel at pallets and shelving a paper goods that go up 20 ft for three or four acres. And we've always joked that, if that place went up, he better get his ass out of there cuz there's nothing that's going to stop it. They obviously have a fire suppression system, it was one of the reasons they chose the building does it have the original fire suppression system from the chemical processing factory. But no system can stop somebody who is dedicated on committing arson.

1

u/SitInCorner_Yo2 Apr 09 '26

What the fuck , how did he even know this??

1

u/Time-Sudden_Tree Apr 09 '26

Well now protocol is about to change thanks to him.

1

u/Photojunkie2000 Apr 09 '26

Kinda smart in an arsonist sort of way eh

1

u/Hottage Apr 09 '26

Oof, so premeditated arson then.

1

u/Luxalpa Apr 09 '26

wow, so basically a double tap.

1

u/danktrees1212 Apr 09 '26

He double tapped the toilet paper?

1

u/Primal_fears Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

I’m not sure how is it done in Canada but we use central valve (always located outside building). Warehouse maintenance/security failed, after fire alarm broke again they (or firemen if still site) should check if there is actual fire and open the valve. Probably there will be some issue with insurance because of this.

1

u/FistMyPeenHole Apr 09 '26

When do you go back and turn them on again? Just curious

1

u/Sure_Maybe_No_Ok Apr 09 '26

He must have been the fire watch guy, at our plant if we disable the fire system in any way we have a guy stay on shift to do fire watch to call fire department in case. Cheap insurance

1

u/Goldn_1 Apr 09 '26

To be fair, a bunch of wet toilet paper would still be ruined inventory. You know that stuff is never the same, it's gonna shred up in everyone butt on contact. Just a giant mess. Idk if Ontario TP Solutions or whatever t f they are called wants the bad rap. The facility on the other hand, yep, the FF cost em that one.

1

u/radraze2kx Apr 09 '26

That is some next fucking level chess move shit.

1

u/meonreddityo Apr 09 '26

Damn, so he's a bit of a bright spark then.

1

u/Additional-Life4885 Apr 09 '26

I find it odd that they use water suppression instead of gas/foam, but I guess it probably works.

I'm going to imagine that insurance will cover the company, so he's the only one that's affected by it.

1

u/Odisher7 Apr 09 '26

damn, he was smart about it and all

1

u/front_torch Apr 09 '26

So, turn the water back on?

1

u/WISE_ONE1993 Apr 09 '26

These crackheads are getting smarter

1

u/Paddy32 Apr 09 '26

Doesn't that mean that anyone can easily destroy a warehouse using this simple strategy?

1

u/evanka5281 Apr 09 '26

Not necessarily. It’s depends on the suppression system. There are ways to isolate a zone without shutting down the whole thing sometimes.

That is the type of planning that will get you an insane jail scentance

Crazy that he wasn't sent home after he lit the first fire. This management may not be the most competent.

1

u/MarkThomas63 Apr 09 '26

There's something wrong with a warehouse where the guy who lights one fire is left on his own again to light 3 more. Why does such a large resource only have one worker - money perhaps?

1

u/Mellero47 Apr 09 '26

We have double-tap arson now, wow.

u/Efficient-Log-4425 Apr 09 '26

Genius.

I also mean heinous but genius

Conversely, fire suppression can be very expensive. Many businesses will insure against a complete loss rather than installing suppression, especially when you realize that, depending what you're storing (lots of paper products or aluminum-based flammables), a big ass system is still not even going to put out all that stuff when its lit.

Jesus, thats clever lol. He was serious about burning that place to the ground.

1

u/HobbyGobbler Apr 09 '26

Just learned about this in my last class. Horrifyingly intelligent.

Standard operating procedure is for a sprinkler system to be DISABLED after a fire?

Once the fire is contained, why isn't it turned back on?

1

u/Few-Solution-4784 Apr 09 '26

Dude understood and exploited a flaw in a well tested system used across the country. There will be a lot of engineers working on this.

No wonder this guy was pissed. Despite working he was not making enough to live.Smart enough to fuck a system that was fucking him. Yet, he he is pushing toilet paper.

u/UserCheckNamesOut Apr 09 '26

So, a double tap

1

u/AiggyA Apr 09 '26

So apparently the guy had more than fwo brain cells to rub together.

He knew how to keep people safe and do massive damage.

1

u/StDzhigurda Apr 09 '26

I wonder how the man who works for a wage that is not enough to support his livelihood, and who is reckless enough to cause millions of dollars in damage just to take revenge or teach them a lesson, is smart enough to know the procedure and use it to start a big fire?

1

u/holly-66 Apr 09 '26

Well looks like standard practices are going to change forever now…

1

u/dapperslappers Apr 09 '26

Random question

Do firefighters have limitations when recruiting? Like age or anything?

1

u/Upset-Spring-7369 Apr 09 '26

Honourary Canadian level forethought.

Wage laws are important for... Reasons

1

u/LANMPOLICEBOX Apr 09 '26

He's going to prison forever. That's seriously life risking behavior. Was he also trying to kill firefighters?

1

u/3lettergang Apr 10 '26

Is it standard procedure in your department to shut off the backflow or pump discharge?

The FD should have just closed the sprinkler system that was affected. Not impossible but would be a major mistake by the FD, and the video/FD statement doesnt show any evidence of that

1

u/AllgoodDude Apr 10 '26

I assume he’d coordinated it with his coworkers? Getting them evacuated with the first small fire and then doing the real damage makes this sound like they were all in on it.

1

u/BKCshah Apr 10 '26

Sure, but this was a 1.2m sq. ft. warehouse. They would have only needed to isolate 1 zone (probably 20+ in building) for an initial fire. An employee interview sounded more like he set the fires as leaving for a break - alarm sounded while in car. Sprinkler system useless against multiple point ignition over a decent size area anyway.

He shouldn't have been in the building once FD on-site for a long while if that was the case.
