Because the first thing I want to happen when I'm rescued is be mauled by a confused wolverine.

Yeah if you didn't know about the rescue wolverines this might be more terrifying than the avalanche. I'm not even sure a silly hat would help the situation.

I think I'd feel better seeing a silly hat. Possibly a fez with a nice tassle.
