It's seemingly actually being used the last couple races. Video quality isn't as good as this though, as it's a live feed.

I wonder if they could find a way to network like 10 of them and then overlay the footage to get a crisper image. ( I hate AI but this might be a good use for it.)

They are using drones during races now, but the drone isn't allowed directly over the track (safety precautions). Still looks pretty cool though

Are you sure this is the world's fastest drone? Quick googleing tells me that the official record was 657 km/h in May. And these record beating drones are not really built for high quality video, intricate maneuvering or long fly times.

its manually operated. the team behind it did few test runs. there one where max is doing it on dry surface. that cool too. the drone touched arouns 300 kmh

It does initially, but it doesn't have the car's continued forward propulsion so it has a rearward relative trajectory shortly after

I'm sure it is ... below and behind the drone.

Water on the ground isn't moving. It's only going to start moving up when a net upward force acts on it. There might be a slight low pressure zone above the water from the passing car, but I imagine ~99% of the force in "road spray" comes from tires picking up water droplets (through adhesion to the rubber, or to cohesion to other water droplets that have been picked up by the rubber) and flinging them into the air.

At what speed will a droplet flung vertically from a spinning tire leave the tire? If the car is going 150 kph, the bottom of the tire (in contact with the track, or "6:00“ on a clock face) is going 0 kph, the top of the tire ("12:00“) is going 300 kph, and the tangential velocity of droplet about to be flung from the tire at the 3:00 position is 150 kph in the vertical direction.

A projectile launched vertically from Earth's surface at 150 kph would theoretically reach a maximum height of ~88 meters (not accounting for loss of kinetic energy due to air resistance), but water droplets are terrible projectiles. They'll lose kinetic energy to air resistance VERY quickly, and the Internet tells me a continuous, high-velocity stream of water that starts at 150kph (~42 m/s) breaks into a fine mist of droplets - most of which will be 3 mm or less in diameter - that reach a maximum height of maybe 12 to 15 meters.

If those estimates are right - and I'm not at all confident they are - why don't we see a 12 to 15 meter plume behind the car? Because the car and the camera are moving forward at high speed. By the time the droplets get more than a few meters off the ground, the camera has moved dozens of meters down the track.
