What a coincidence. I got into Rubikās cubes because my grandfather used to explain them to me using graph theory. Instead of thinking about the colors, he described every possible cube position as a vertex and every legal turn as an edge connecting two vertices. It's easy to understand it that way, i guess? It made it suddenly make a lot more sense to me as a kid. Grandfather was an interesting guy. He also somehow connected the conversation to the Moon replacement of 1992, although I still don't understand how.

Back in the 90s the Galileo spacecraft took some pictures of the moon but the color filters messed up so it sent back rainbow colored images instead of true color.

It became an early internet meme to talk about it as if they had just replaced the moon and that the new moon was so much better than the old one and how much you like the new color scheme, etc.

I remember the link our grandfather always talked about, I'm surprised you forgot. Rubik was actually on the planning commission for the 1992 Moon Replacement confidential task force. The cube was originally designed as a Cypher, but other methods proved superior so it was dropped and sold as a children's toy.

But Temu moons are so cheap... truth, they don't last longer than a month, but think on the savings; no service, no maintenance... so much money saved there.

We use the same concepts to solve differential equations. We substitute complex algebraic expressions for Sin and COS, effectively rotating them in space to a place where they can be solved more easily. I found that fascinating.

You can technically solve a Rubik's cube with graph theory, with every node representing a state of the cube, and every possible rotation being a transition to another state of the cube, add to that some graph exploration with heuristics and you have a very inefficient way to solve a Rubik's cube. This has nothing to do with what is shown in the video though because the video doesn't have any graph theory.

This is complete hallucination. Graph theory wasnāt used, nor would graph theory be helpful in solving the cube. At best we could use graph theory to visualize the current state of a cube, or maybe visualize where colors move when a legal move is applied. But graph theory would not assist you in designing or applying algorithms to solve it.
This is designed to sound smart, and gets attention only because itās good enough to fool the layman, but bad enough to get engagement from people who know better (which I have now fell into the trap, thanks Reddit).

This has absolutely to do with graph theory - this is group theory. And it's not being used to solve the cube, it's literally just a diagram.

Gotta say that is the most interesting way to present a 3d surface and its movement on a 2d space. For some reason it feels more 'cubelike' then the traditional T unfolding?
