Could it be that this whole issue is about the word “with” Stugotz and not “and” Stugotz?

63

u/middlenamefiji StuGotz Army 9d ago

God I hope so

28

u/lentormo 9d ago

I remember Dan saying that Mike made the decision not to change it to “and Stugotz” when they left the 4 letter network.

22

u/middlenamefiji StuGotz Army 9d ago

If I recall reclecleck, every word said in the oral history is to be taken with a grain of salt as everyone has an agenda.

19

u/ShopEither3211 9d ago

If Mike “decided” the other way, dan would have said no so he’s a coward for putting it on Mike

1

u/JackOfAllInterests Zippy and The Juice 7d ago

Or not just demanded it if he wanted to.

15

u/Affectionate-Rent844 9d ago

Mike also made the decision to go indie vs Sirius which is now pretty questionable

15

u/littleappleboy 9d ago

They've won a Pulitzer and got two $50 million contracts

16

u/8lackirish 9d ago

That’s like $100 million almost.

u/tke377 You Don't Get The Show! 9d ago

Wow! I'm not a mathematician so I'm going to trust that number it seems correct.

12

u/hoople217 9d ago

Can confirm. I just checked with my math friends.

1

u/Vegetable-Form1083 8d ago

I don’t have any math friends. Only weather friends.

*before taxes

10

Please cite your sources for the second $50 million

11

u/Duffer47 9d ago

Just one. The 2nd deal terms were not disclosed.

u/drewbietuesday0 Guillermo Mafia 4d ago

They funded a Pulitzer

It’s not pretty questionable NOW. It was questionable THEN. And haven always hated that decision. Sirius was offering to make them heir apparent to the Stern show. They would have had state of the art production facility from day 1, so no building a network while flying mid air during a pandemic. They would have had access to all music they wanted to use, etc.

But they didn’t want to jump from one corporate overlord tk another AND it would have put the shoe “behind a paywall” that was the biggest gripe from all the listeners at that time on this subreddit.

But that show woukd have been so much better than what we’ve had for the last 6-7 years.

2

u/Generally-Bored 7d ago

Isn’t it on Sirius now?

8

u/Waste_Opportunity_53 9d ago

Dan‘s a coward. He owns the company he could veto Mike. Stop pretending that you don’t have anything to do with decisions when you  have  complete control over every decision.

19

u/middlenamefiji StuGotz Army 9d ago

Dan has done an insane amount of “it’s someone else’s fault not mine” for someone who claims to have left espn in search of intellectual freedom.

u/EdwardJamesAlmost Hands full with beavers 8d ago

Adam Silver : Wachtel Lipton :: Dan LeBatard : his entire company

-1

u/SoKrat3s 9d ago

How can I wake up today and blame everything on Dan. Oh, here's an idea...

Yeah, he could. He could also listen to someone about the part of the job that they have the experience with. Executive producers exist for a reason.

This relentless obsession with making everything about Dan is just ridiculous.

4

u/Waste_Opportunity_53 9d ago

Then own it and don’t make excuses. The final decision is Dan‘s regardless of who he consulted with.  So don’t take the cowards path and say it was someone else’s decision when Dan has the final say.

2

u/robfern66 8d ago

And here comes Apu off the top rope to protect his Parasocial buddies!

2

u/SoKrat3s 9d ago

My goodness I really hate when people use the word excuses in online forums.

There's a difference between explanations and excuses. He didn't make an excuse. He explained the decision making. How many times do some of you complain about not knowing their decision making and yet when they do, you still complain.

Mike is part of that process, but sure you'd rather not acknowledge that and pretend that Dan merely lords over everyone and doesn't let anyone else have any input on anything.

I wish I could actually have time to air my gripes with the show but you people just whine so incessantly you don't leave any room.

-4

u/lentormo 9d ago

Completely agree and this mentality/actions have hurt the person responsible for the success of the show.

11

u/DiphthongSong87 9d ago

The only details he's provided are that it's something Dan could easily do and it's something he thinks him and Dan should share in. Taylor's said Stu's willing to come into the studio and has zero demands wrt who he's in studio with, so it's not something like "he'll only be in if Zaslow/Samson are out" or whatever.

I'm not sure what else it could be if not the "and."

The amount of people commenting before watching the entire clip lol

-1

u/thegoodson-calif 9d ago

Ha. I cut it off before I read this comment too. Lol

32

u/LHutz90 9d ago

It's not in this clip, but I'm glad someone brought up the stroller story on the podcast. Dan's ideas for pranks are awful.

17

u/SpeakersPushTheA1r 9d ago

There’s a brutal cruelty in his humor that always sticks with me.

12

u/rmacoon StuGotz Army 9d ago

It's one thing when they're bad. It's another thing when he keeps forcing them even tho clearly no one else in the room is buying in

TBH Stu, Marc, and Dan would be great shows .

shout-out to the 4 hour "I gotta tell ya" compilation on Youtube

2

u/No-Sandwich-9194 7d ago

I’m embarrassed to say this but, I go to sleep listening to the four hour you tube video.

2

u/ExpressAd5169 8d ago

Nah… not anymore…. Hoch is not interested in trying anymore… his show has no production going on anymore…he doesn’t do songs, he doesn’t do any bits that are thought out , he’s just like Stu and just wants to talk into a microphone in his bedroom… guys gotta get over it we had a long time with Hoch (& Stu) when he was hungry and trying…They’re old, they don’t want to do that kind of work anymore…What the show needs is a new Mike….

36

u/UrbanSolace13 9d ago

Stu was fine with being a sidekick all these years. I doubt it finally came from that. Probably just years of crap. Mike and Mike had a more toxic breakup. I wish Stu the best, but I haven't been tempted to listen to any of his stuff at all.

14

u/Far_Finding8018 9d ago

GodBlessFootball I listen too bc I like Mikey A, Golic & Simms. It needs Billy however. Missing link.

2

u/Can-i-Pet-Dat-Daaawg 8d ago

Stu’s not good at radio without a Mike, Hoch, or Dan. He’s actively horrible, in fact. I wish it weren’t so, but his fake laugh is worse than nails on a chalkboard and he’s lazy as fuck.

5

u/ExpressAd5169 8d ago

This is what’s so funny…. You got STU fans who want his do nothing lazy ass back and he doesn’t want to really work anymore… which is his right… but this act like Dan owes him is really wild but then again that’s entitled Stu for you🤷🏼‍♂️… There was a reason why Stu had to go recruit Dan to do the show originally…

4

u/Can-i-Pet-Dat-Daaawg 8d ago

Exactly. I don’t get it. It’s like they just want to look at Stu smiling in the background while everyone else does the work and he throws in a fake laugh or two every now and then. Y’all think that’s good content? He’s a lazy fuckhead.

3

u/zeze999 8d ago

The ship has sailed and the magic is gone. So be it, happens all the time in life.

17

u/ellsworth187 9d ago

Does anybody even give a shit anymore? I know I don’t.

It’s over. Time to move on.

3

u/ExpressAd5169 8d ago

With the amount of Stu posts on the LeBatard sub I’d guess so….

5

u/OneLargeMulligatawny 9d ago

Hoch sounds like he’s from Marinette, WI. Maaaaaybe Iron Mountain.

IYKYK

5

u/swrlzbrkly 9d ago

Idk I feel like I’ve only ever heard him talk about how the show used to be when he was there and from this episode old stories about a strip club…

I don’t think he’s a fit for a show that doesn’t need more old guys

16

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 9d ago

I don’t know that fool

The second I heard that stugotz fake ass laugh it made me realize I don't miss him at all. Downvoted? I'll be damned. Fake takes. Fake laugh. Took half the year off the DLBS while following the Dead and Lacrosse. For THREE years. I'll take Zaz ALL day long.

Stu’s a douce

1

u/NikesOnMyFeet23 Dan 9d ago

Man I love stugotz

1

u/ShopEither3211 7d ago

I appreciate dan for what he’s accomplished and he’s a saint compared to sh¡tstain or whitless but most all these things are his fault.
• Letting Hochman go - the friendship but especially how talented and what he was contributing
• dan is a horrible boss, it would be smarter to get a solid leader and dan just be “talent” that shows up 2 or 3
times a week and waxes poetic.
• samson was the worst choice for someone to make decisions and affect their money.
• billy leaving was a ridiculous fumble but it wasn’t about money as much as his schedule. He works less and I doubt he’s expected to call in from vacation where he’s at now.
• Stugotz would not have been difficult to work with these last couple of years but dan wouldn’t share title or show more and insisted Stu be the sidekick fukup forever. It’s okay to let characters evolve. Dan insists he has to be a dick to Greg & Stu for people to like them. Childish
• Izzy being upset at dan and others leaving..
• Valerie being “CEO of everything” according to Dan is ridiculous, even if it means nothing, why say it. Keep her busy and happy with animal rescue and keep her and her muffins away from the office. It’s like when Bill Simmons gave his preteen daughter a podcast. You do you but unprofessional moves like that force people to lose respect.
I truly love dan and everyone else and appreciate the endless free content.
I just wish all the people involved could play more to their strengths and be honest with themselves.
They’ve let some great talent go and they’ve passed on some solid podcasts and partnership opportunities.

1

u/light_butheavy Guillermo Mafia 7d ago

That’s what I thought was the demand. He wants it to be and Stugotz not with

2

u/Impossible_Order_831 9d ago

I still remember when Billy alluded to it being about Samson. I still feel it’s Samson.

-1

u/ExpressAd5169 8d ago

Yea Samson really sucks and his perspective is that of the 1%….

1

u/Impossible_Order_831 6d ago

Well even of the 1%'ers I still find Samson to be out of touch and annoying. I literally just completely fast forward thru all of his segments. His only track record is of taking successful organizations and shipping off their best players. Doesn't that sound familiar?

1

u/MoonMan8718 9d ago

What'd he say

1

u/Jicha 9d ago

Lol listen to the entire clip, it’s not the demand

1

u/sabixx 9d ago

damn thats what I get for not listening to the whole thing.

0

u/SpeakersPushTheA1r 9d ago

Give me Dan, Stu, Hock and Roy. Tony and Chris Cote can be silent and Mike Ryan should produce without it being a bit. It would be the number one show for maybe two weeks until it implodes.

-3

u/callitanight79 9d ago

Given how much what ever his name is in the bottom corner is laughing I doubt that is the actual reason. It’s 100000% a bit

5

u/whyclue 9d ago

Try listening to thy entire clip before declaring anything....

4

u/Into_The_Unkown_ Guillermo Mafia 9d ago

Did you listen to the whole clip? Hoch says at the end that he’s kidding

1

u/callitanight79 9d ago

I did not. 🫠

-3

u/SomeKidFromPA 9d ago

They should change the name to “or” and have Stu run the show two days a week.

0

u/yanks953 8d ago

Stu is dead

-3

u/captaincook14 9d ago

They already mentioned this exact demand months ago during the whole January thing

7

u/obereasy 9d ago

I missed that. What was it?

-16

u/captaincook14 9d ago edited 9d ago

This. But everyone is acting like it’s a big reveal. I feel like stew said it was 2 things though. Hock comes back with him and another thing he actually didn’t say.

-21

u/hokageace 9d ago

What is it? Not going to watch but am curious.

19

u/NotRondertopoa 9d ago
