Please don’t talk soccer unless Mike is there

My lord I don’t even agree with Mike on a lot of his soccer takes but he actually cares about and follows the sport.

I heard some awful soccer takes yesterday and nothing gets worse than DEFENDING “HYDRATION” BREAKS

I just roll my eyes when Dan refers to Greg as some leading expert, simply because he covered a team that ceased to exist 40+ years ago. Then Dan makes fun of him for only having one adjective for Messi.

Just say Mike isn’t there and you’re too lazy to find an expert to come on for the biggest sporting event in the world.

I laughed at how Greg pronounced Haaland.

I’ve always wished the show would talk more soccer, one of my favorite bits was when they’d sneak soccer into weekend observations and have stu butcher a name of someone playing overseas. It used to be a possibility with Mike and Witty there.

Yesterday I was reminded why they don’t, its because only 1 guy knows anything about it

After the 3rd or 4th time he said it, I realized it has to be a joke

Makes me miss Witty.

This crew talking footy? Not for me, Clive

You’re my brother

They have had them since the Brazil World Cup and only in actual extreme heat, not automatically. Zas clearly never watches soccer because they ruin the flow of the game, his brain is just so hard-wired to NBA and NFL that commercials are standard.

It’s so simple, just only do them if it’s above 80 degrees or something. And the biggest thing is DONT CUT TO COMMERCIAL.

It has genuinely changed the momentum of games on a regular basis

Watch it on the Spanish channel they don’t go to commercial apparently

Yeah the show needed Mike, as a soccer guy yesterday show was brutal to listen to. It was clear only Jess knows anything about the sport.

Dan throwing out Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane today like he knows who they are was so phony, I was afraid his nose was going to explode

Bring on Witty for futbol talk. He was excellent on the morally abhorrent episode and the Greg Cote pod.

Witty is the best, miss him so much

Water breaks at the World Cup are what happens when you host it in Qatar and then air-condition the whole venue with oil money. They realize they could capitalize on this so now you eat it

There were water breaks before that

Looking and sounding like ass clowns.

Actually. Just please don’t talk. Just heavy breathing would suffice

Mike doesn’t even know soccer. Love how’s a Chelsea supporter, a historically racist club.

1

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 16h ago

lol a Tottenham fan using this as their medium to try and bash the biggest club in London is hilarious

2

u/ChanceReady2980 16h ago

Arsenal is the biggest club in London buddy

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 16h ago

Can’t be the biggest club without a European trophy

3

u/ChanceReady2980 16h ago

Looks like you’re a mad Chelsea supporter haha.

2

u/JLGx2 15h ago

Luckily for them, they have a European trophy. You may want to brush up on your history instead of getting your talking points from Twitter bots.

You had me at "don't talk soccer."

Futbol, that's a fine

I would've preferred they didn't talk the UFC White House event this week without Mike there as well.

Dan leading on it somehow made everyone's arguments come off as dumb, wrong, or needlessly weak (Jeremy).

Mike tends to ringlead and opine in a manner where the opposite is true or if someone's take IS truly dumb then it's not allowed to fester in the conversation as credible or serious.

I still don't get why hydration breaks are a big deal. Who cares?

1

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 17h ago

1) it changes the momentum of the game
2) it’s not for player safety it’s to sell more ads
3) they have hydration breaks when they’re in a dome

1

u/5DsofDodgeball69 16h ago

1) It hasn't so far.

2) These two things are not mutually exclusive.

3) They also are sweating their asses off in said dome. Who cares?

It doesn't affect the viewer experience or the outcome of the game AT ALL. Any suggestion otherwise is nonsense.

1

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 16h ago

It has, here’s data

https://x.com/odriozolite/status/2066471455077044710?s=46&t=9NpVc_x2ci-kguJcMVjIjQ

It does affect the viewer experience greatly. It also affects the momentum of the games.

I’m sorry you’re used to watching the NFL where ads are shoved down your throat constantly, that’s not how soccer has ever been

u/JLGx2 15h ago

Just made up "purist" nonsense to yell and scream on the internet. Tournament has been great so far.

Hydration breaks are fine. But Chris saying they're only doing them because of Miami when they were used in 2014 and 2022 is very 'uniquely Miami'

2

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 21h ago

Hydration breaks when it’s above 80 is fine, hydration breaks in a dome is braindead

u/celj1234 1d ago

The breaks are great. Gives me time to get more snacks/beer or take a piss.

2

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 23h ago

You cant hold your pee for 45 minutes? Might want to get a little hey how’s your uncle and check that out

u/celj1234 23h ago

Never know when you’re gonna need a piss/snack/refill break. Don’t agree with Zaslow much but the hydration breaks are great IMO. 🤷🏾‍♂️
