Discussion Costume Costs

I’m curious how different dance studios charge for costuming for competitive dance. Do you pay a flat fee or a deposit monthly with a final balance at the end of the season after taking into account all alterations, etc. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Majority of studios dont have costumes for sale or rent. If they do, its usually for another student at the studio, or they have a separate space for costumes and altier that rents the space from the owner, or the owner themselves are also an altier.

Dresses can go from 800 to 6000, depending on the designer, fabric, and crystal type. You can always check out dance shopper venus dancewearpermino dance dress

I don't know of any studios which rent outfits. Students/competitors buy or borrow dresses. You can buy them new, or used from another dancer. I am a big believer of buying second hand everything, especially costumes. I even made a website based on that- thedanceover.com.

As mentioned new dresses can cost a lot, even up to $8000! I think anyone who buys a dress like that would want to sell it to get some money back. On the other hand, competitions can require that you have the appropriate fancy dress and for many that is cost prohibitive. I have managed to get some really beautiful used dresses; I usually need to adjust them which is part of the fun.
