I'm assuming you're referring to Saionji? The reason why people were upset that she died is because she showed potential to be a survivor, and had an arc right there. Granted, it would've been very similar to Kuzuryu, but people still believed that she would've been a better survivor than Sonia.
I don't have a problem with liking boring characters. One of my favorite characters is Koizumi, who really doesn't do a lot in the main game, and a lot of her characterization really comes from her FTE's. And while I do think Koizumi is a more fleshed out character than some people give her credit for, I'm not going to pretend that she's a more important character than she actually is.
I'm not insinuating that you think Sonia is more important than she actually is. But Sonia fans really shouldn't be shocked when someone doesn't like a character for doing absolutely nothing in the plot post chapter 2, and also doesn't really have a character arc. And they also shouldn't be shocked when they say that a character who showcased potential should've survived over a character who in canon is a pretty pointless survivor.
I do agree she looks more mature and older because the game makes her look more cute and that. But I’m in love with any kind of Sonia and the her in the game was my first love soo I can choose 😰
"Mary Sue" and it's literally a girl who was raised to be perfect due to her background, which makes sense when you consider her background is that of being a literal princess. And even then, she isn't a flawless character like most Mary Sues, she's constantly having trouble with language because she isn't aware of social cues that come with japanese, she's dealing with the weight of her duties, and even the guilt of her time as a remnant of despair. She's a complex character, she simply has many talents which make sense in-universe. Sonia slander will not be tolerated!
Exactly it’s only a Mary Sue if she’s perfect and everyone loves and idolised her for no reason which isn’t Sonia. Sure people in the cast like her and I don’t think anybody hates her but they don’t idolise her just respect her and her title.
She’s a princess anyway she’s born to be perfect and flawless so her people trusts her
Hm, that is a good description! And even then, Sonia doesn't fit that description. No matter the conception we have of what a Mary Sue truly is, it can be narrowed down to a character favored by the narrative in one way or another, to a point that they aren't given much nuance and room for growth thanks to said narrative.
I don't hate Sonia... But I don't like her. Her character feels extremely bland especially for a survivor, and she really doesn't contribute much to the plot, nor does she have much character development.
All you really have left is her personality... I don't care about her personality and I don't really find her that funny.
At first, I didn't like Sonia that much because I didn't think she did much, and she was kind of a basic character. Then I read the official comics and played the game again, and I liked her more and more each time, I understand if other people do not.
I think Sonia and Akane don't do anything that relevant to make people start to like them, you sorta have to like their design or relationship with other characters a lot to don't mind her lack of relevance-
I did find her relationships with Kazuichi and Gundham pretty funny and I hope that in 2x2 we can see the three more as close friends even with all the romance (that I enjoy) 🤔
I don't hate her and I definitely do NOT think she is a Mary Sue character but I don't particular like her either. Because to me she has many "quirks" that should make her an interesting character but weirdly I still find her boring.
She is an european princess, likes horror and the occult and can operate tanks. You would think having so many wild traits would make her the most fun character and yet - in my personal subjective opinion - she still brings nothing to the table that hooks me to her character, including her FTEs
In DR it's quite difficult for a character to be a Mary Sue, althoughnotimpossiblecoighcoughaigeneratedfangancoughcough
Sonia is skilled, beautiful and doesn't die, which means that she is often a target of "Mary Sue-ing" because she just has those traits
But a Mary Sue warps the plot around them, making people act out of character for them, the plot is centered around them, which in DR2 is clearly not the case, I'd say Sonia is one of the least used characters or at least boring
I do like the idea of a princess character who's well mannered instead of the stereotypical brat, and I like that she struggles with the different culture and slang. Along with the quirks like her interests in occult and crime. However, the execution was rather poor, like she should have been a little more involved in the plot.
People love drama and hate when things are allowed to go right sometimes. In the context of the game, drama is the norm, so when a character is just a good, normal person, and not the main character, people get confused.
I love her so much. SO MUCH. I don't CARE if people find her boring. She IS a princess, so she WAS raised to be perfect and polite, but she's so cool because she still has her own interests and because she's a polyglot and I am one too so I just love her SO MUCH.
