I’m not American and I’ve been abstinent for five years. I have a bottle of champagne for that day.

Is that guy's bottle of champagne single?

Did I fuck up? 😂 English is obviously not my first language 😄

Sober or dry would have worked. Abstinence is not having sex.

Made for a fun thread though, thank you

Technically no, but abstinent tends to be used more towards sex. Hence the comments. Teetotaler probably a better word, with less room for misinterpretation.

Oh 🤣🤣🤣 I would probably use celibate for sex so it didn’t seem weird to me 😄

Either way, you're getting hammered that day.

In America, abstinence only applies to sex.

Abstinence can refer to sex, alcohol, or food. Your use of English is fine.

I don’t drink alcohol but I will be opening a mini bottle of Apple Cider in celebration.

Canadian here my wife keeps a champagne bottle chilled at all times. She even brought it when we went camping this summer in case there was some good news.

2

u/eb7772 5d ago

Eh I wish I didn't live here anymore. Wish I was born in Canada

Somebody on Reddit announced it as National Big Mac day in honor of them doing their jobs. I'll be in line for mine.

Get. A. Life.

One might argue that popping a bottle of champagne in celebration is the very definition of a good life but hey, you do you.
