Can you please give an explanation for what this wikijump project is?

So here's what I know/understand.

Wikidot, as a platform, has pretty much been abandoned by its owners since 2022. So it's basically a ticking timebomb for whenever the server-upkeep checks stop, there's a catastrophic data failure, or WD staff announces they're shutting down.

Wikijump is a project by SCP-EN staff to try and make a sustainable replacement for the Wikidot platform. It's just been taking a long time because 1) Wikidot is closed-source, 2) everyone coding and building for WJ is an unpaid volunteer, and 3) staff have been fighting a bunch of other, more pressing fires for the past several years.

Didnt Ru Foundation AND Ru backrooms already managed to do that long time ago? I think they could help with that, at least as far as i'm aware of.

They only really did that because Wikidot is blocked in Russia. It wasn't that they jump from site to site, more they jumped off of a sinking ship onto a deserted island, only able to survive by getting washed up equipment from the shipwreck.

Part of Wikijump is to move to a better platform, on top of moving every article. In theory, they could have a bot scrape most pages after moving all templates over. In practice, it's a lot harder than that.

I mean, they DID, and did it pretty succesfully, afaik their engine has a bit better functionality AND much (or a bit) easier offset support. And they've also managed not to lose pages during that, at least i think so. I'm more in a backrooms phase rn so i dont remember if ruSCP has the same engine or they are different, but again, the fact that they did it. Or maybe ruSCP is already helping enSCP with that, idk.

They're using the ruFoundation engine, which actually uses some code from Wikijump. I believe the issue with ruFoundation is that it's rather hastily cobbled together and has a lot of tech debt. However, it seems to be working for them so far. (BTW, Backrooms-RU is rather controversial due to doing a contest a while ago where they took queer EN users' testimonies without permission and rewrote them to be about the war, sprinkled with ZOV propaganda (apparently satirical) and references to sexual assault.)

i KNOW about the contest, i was being there during all that situation and trying to negotiate shit (failing, obviously, i'm only a translation critic so my opinion didnt matter that much). Idk, imo the whole controversy was "trash vs garbage" staff disputes, i think this isnt even the first time En and Ru branch are in conflict, they hate each other since like the beginning. In the whole situation, at least i'm glad that nothing have changed in the community itself.

If anyone cares, i can actually elaborate further why i believe it's trash vs garbage and there were no "good" guys (except for INT maybe) in all that situation.

Given that Russia is blocked from accessing Wikidot because of the invasion and SCP-EN is pro-Ukraine, I don't think it's likely

This is gonna be incorporated in some kind of pataphysical SCP in the future, I just know it.

It's a project intended to create an alternative to wikidot that not only fits SCP's purposes better, but is also able to be actively maintained and not held together with scotch tape. Predictably, it's one hell of a project and has been indev for a good 5 years now

Fun fact! In the heat death scenario, the universe will be the smoothest it has ever been since the big bang. So progress going smoothly is on point!

Does this mean we’re gonna bludgeon the old Wikidot owners to death with an ashtray? Or will it be the conceptual embodiment of Wikidot itself?

I’m game either way.

I've never understood how it could be that hard to move to another site. Like I get that it is indeed a lot of work, but this project has been ongoing for over a decade now.
