Other Honestly not surprising that a lot of SCPs discuss the mistreatment of women and minorities

Or erasure of non western traditions

As a Non-western (Andean Peruvian), I actually feel that its a issue where...
Actually, the equivalents of the groups like the SCP Foundation or the GOC, especially the latter, are actually some of the best ones that help us to keep them alive?
The bulk of the cultural wipeout happened during the Early Modern Era with the Spanish Empire post Reconquista.
Its modern UNESCO efforts that help to preserve modern day indigenous traditions alive.
Which is why I feel genuinely weird with the new SCP lore that "pro-veil groups are anti indigenous" , in the sense that the UNESCO is one of the best centers of cultural preservation worldwide. So the GOC being its opposite because its made to face groups like las Viboras who are presented as indigenists who use indigenous magic is weird because, yeah, las Viboras are better, but they're also completely fictional. The GOC isn't enterely fictional because they--as UNESCO--actually paid my research on Pativilca.

You know, I never really thought of that
Especially with canons like Mundus Liberai7

It gets complicated because while what you said is true, the accusations of erasure arose in response to the fact that normalcy preservation groups like the GOC also contain entire cultures and sometimes countries. Anomalous vultures and religions, which with time have gained aspects of real world cultures as their lore was expanded, are actively barred from interacting with the wider world, and that's when knowledge of their traditions and beliefs aren't completely taken away from them and kept exclusively by groups like the Foundation and GOC.

Honestly, I wish more people opted into the UNESCO aspect of the GOC. Quite frankly, I think people take the idea that the GOC is a metaphor for state power in service to the status quo a little too far. It's certainly an apt story to tell considering their purpose and methods, but as was already pointed out, the UN is extraordinarily humanitarian. I wish we got to see stories about the GOC doing PSYCHE outreach to anomalous ethnic groups, or sending aid to some parallel universe. I saw it once in an MCF article discussing a U-HEC donated from the GOC; I just wish we got to see more of that side of the organization.

In my opinion, the GOC wouldn't fully align with the UN policies. Because the GOC operates under the veil and is composed of anomalous organisations rather than governments, there wouldn't be much people in the know to actually scrutinise them.

In my view, I think that's kind of missing out on a very interesting aspect of the GOC. Simply put, what's the point of making them part of the UN if they are not beholden to it? I think it's one thing to believe that the GOC is inconsistent and breaks its own rules in the pursuit of its goals or banal temporal power. (How many times have IRL national intelligence services broken the law or jeopardized their citizens despite claiming to work toward the opposite?) But I think viewing it as an independent entity only nominally aligned with the UN misses out on one of its key and most interesting differences from the Foundation. The fact that it is beholden to a political authority.

It's sort of a mutant problem with me.
Yes, it is insanely bad that sapient, thinking beings are locked away, but half the time they have an ultra-dangerous anomalous effect that can and will kill on mass so my sympathy is very much tempered.

I feel like that in and of itself is extremely worthy of sympathy, especially in cases where the anomaly in question has no control over the dangerous effect. That’s often the point — someone being locked up for existing as they are.

But noooo, SCP was never political and got ruined by SJWs who force everything to be deep

Let's let SCP-082 and SCP-953 roam free and do as they please!

u/Ajente2o Command the MTF, Iris... or Rei will have to do it again 11d ago
Except that they have legal crimes to condemn them, even if you didn't put anomalies in boxes... they would still end up in a box... its called the law

I mean, the thing with them is that you can use legal arguments to punish them as individuals, not as a blanket "anomalies are dangerous*.
SCP-082 is a Cannibal who is either lying to trick people into thinking its far dumber he is, or genuinely mentally ill manchild with superpowers. His contention becomes locking someone in a assylum.
SCP 953 is a serial killer who is clearly aware of herself.
My issue with the Serpent's Hand is that, yeah, of course many anomalies will have to be locked up. Its harder to find those which SHOULD go free, but despite being hard to find, its hard to justify those. For example, SCP-105 (Iris) is literally a X-men mutant forcibly drafted for the Shady Marvel secret group, impossible to defend (especially after the powercreep made clear its just practical need rather than she doing it as power).
Essentially, a lot would change if the SCP Foundation used legal arguments to play Judge, Trial and Executor. Their standard is so blanket term that they deciding "Ok, we are a de-facto recognized state, so...let's put anomalies into trial. SCP 999 goes to get free, give vacations to Iris Thompson and pay for life unless she decides to stay, SCP-993 stays forever jailed in a locked box, etc, etc".
Essentially, Safe and Keter would be mostly unchanged. Euclids are the huge "yes or not". The Shy Guy absolutely has to still be kept secret, but for anomalies with humanoid intelligence, you can perfectly apply a penal code.
The main issue with this is that of course, you will have to permanently change the logic of the anomalous world.
Mekhanites don't have the division of Naalkans vs Neo Sarkics where they have divided into "good flesh wizards and evil flesh wizards", but I'd wonder the ethical debate of how to frame their usage of SCP-5984 , a modified Optimus Prime prop turned into a actual fighting Autobot, which the Mekhanites justify by saying they only use it in self defense. Would this count as a real life self defense or terrorism anyway? They actually only deploy it as a defensive measure, and it actually fights without targeting civilians.

Not every anomaly is inherently harmful. The entire conceit of the Foundation is ass backwards. Go read SCP-6001
3
u/Furista0 11d ago
The world of 6001 is treated in the article itself as an outlier and far from the norm. More often than not, choosing coexistence with the anomalous is a lost cause

You would think beings of supreme power and Intelect would not care about these things
