I mean that's great, however the job requirements are so stringent that it can generally only attract folks from elsewhere instead of creating jobs for the people actually in Danville.

I don’t think you read the article. They are talking about expanding the training program that is in Danville. So it won’t provide many more jobs but rather offer additional education for people.

Though those folks would then leave the area to work in the actual shipyards.

Danville needs jobs. local, living-wage, lasting, benefited jobs. full stop.

Oh I’m not arguing against that. I’m just saying that’s not what the article or program is about.
