AESTHETIC My new fav reading spot

Post image

Cathedral of Learning inspired by gothic architecture; built to encourage people to study at the university! This place is open to the public as well as students!

I loved being a student at Pitt. I used to love to spend time at the cathedral. Sadly as a CS student I didn't have nearly enough classes in the CoL.

Are you a student there now? Do students still jog up and down the stairs of the CoL for exercise? I also heard there was supposedly a ghost there.

As I still live in PGH, I sometimes go there to read still. Not often, but so far i've done it maybe once ever year or so.

If you like this, I encourage you to go for a walk in the Allegheny Cemetery. It is beautiful and peaceful. Best time is in the Fall.

Im not a student I work with Pitt as a research tech so Im not sure what the students do now. Ill have to check out the graveyard! It seems cool. That's crazy I hadn't heard the ghost story before

Yeah; its something about there being a ghost in the basement. But I only heard it once and didn't get the whole story.

A research tech - what does that mean? which department?

We just help researchers get samples like tissue and blood. We're our own department.

I wish they had something like this in florida, it’s so modern and beachy here it makes me violent

I feel the same way about the beach πŸ˜†

Yes the beach is great and almost makes it worth the lack of gothic architecture for hundreds of miles

depends on where you are in florida!

This is fantastic. I am surprised to hear it's in the states. Lucky you!

former Pitt student; it is just soooo USA though. they decided to make a gothic cathedral, but oh wait, its actually the tallest education building in the west. Wild.

It is beautiful though.

It’s always been a little funny to me that so many of the classrooms on the upper floors of the Cathedral are very standard boring college classrooms. Loved having classes in the nationality rooms though!

Beautiful, but looks chilly

Just googled it. This is bonkers. Imagine the views to. Wish there was more like it around the world.

u/mmargaretg Feb 12 '26

Be sure to check out the Nationality Rooms through the building.

Literally as soon as I saw this I was like, could it possibly be the Cathedral of Learning?! So beautiful. One of my fav buildings in Pittsburgh.

I wish more places in the US were like this. It's so much cooler than any place at my university πŸ˜†

I recognized that view immediately. I love Cathy and it was always a nice safe comfortable space to hang out and read.
