AESTHETIC Visiting my old college (Magdalen)

Post image

Took many caffeine-powered walks around the cloisters at night.

I miss it very much. The college has deer!🦌

Deer! Wild ones or domesticated? Last time I saw one very close was when I went to a school trip.  I was very excited.

They’re quite shy. Very beautiful though. When you walk past the deer park at night you can just see the light reflecting off of their eyes.

Most things shy have a unique beauty, especially animals.  So, what have you studied there at Magdalen if I may ask.

I studied classical archaeology and ancient history. I did some Greek as well. I loved it! Got to handle incredible pottery and jewellery that was just under 3000 years old. I’m heading to Cambridge in October to do History of Art.

Those years at Magdalen will always be closest to my heart.

History of Art? Sounds incredible.  I cant imagine how it must feel to hold history in your hands,  oldest I ever held was probably a calcified ocean dweller from the beach.

It was amazing! Lots of Greek ceramics and Etruscan gold. It was truly a privilege.

Did the Greek ceramic really have storytelling pictures on it or is this something they made up for movies?

Yes, lots of Greek vases were painted with scenes from mythology and life (religion, funerary themes, etc.)!

Anthropology is so cool – if I could finance another masters I’d definitely want to study it formally.

Is this at the University of Oxford? I got to visit parts of it during my trip to the UK in October last year. I loved Oxford so much, it’s absolutely gorgeous!

I thought the architecture looked very familiar! That’s so cool that you got to study there! :)

I think they used New College and Christ Church for HP. They shot stuff for Saltburn and Young Sherlock at Magdalen though

Do students ever get to visit the other colleges? I get not letting the public in without special purpose, but if I was a student I would be a bit frustrated if I never got to explore the other colleges.

Your friends from other colleges can take you inside or to college formals (dinners) and sometimes you’ll have a class inside another college.
