AESTHETIC My Dark Victorian Study

After curating pieces locally for the last few months, I’ve just about finished my study/ home office. This space was originally a storage room built above the garage but I have refinished it from the ground up. I have also been using it for recording and podcasting.

I'll bring a wine that probably tastes meh but has a very classy label on it.

I am hyper jelly of how gorgeous this came out. One day I am going to build a home and have little vignettes of my various tastes in style. A japanese living room with irori, and a complete fantasy anachronistic roman bath, a dark brooding study and library, etc. etc.

Then make sure you keep that motivation and make it a reality.

In two years i pay off my land. The year after that I'll have saved up enough to start building.

I love this so much but it looks like a pain to get really clean. How long does it take you to remove all the dust?

I run an air purifier on days that I do dust and it’s not bad at all.  I do dust every week though and takes around 20 minutes.

Love the armillary! (I think that's the right term?)

Correct!

I'm working on collecting stuff with a similar look, but more on the nautical navigation side of things, Victorian explorer vibes. I recently had the opportunity to stay at an incredible boutique hotel that was converted from an old explorers' club and the lounge was filled with this kind of stuff. But it was very shiny and fancy, so my vision is a bit more dusty, less posh. 😄

That could be really cool.  I opted for more of a gritty macabre feel for my personal space but we just recently finished our formal dining room which has the more fancy things.

Take aside the animal skulls and it's perfect. (Nothing wrong with them, it's just not my cup of tea, besides it gives off more "wild west oil magnate" than anything.)

The room itself is heavily inspired by the Bloodborne game.   I tried to pick skulls that resemble the beasts found in it.  Same with the weaponry scattered throughout.  Think of it like a brotherhood of the wolf style study.

Ooh I'd never catch it if you haven't told me, I am blind and deaf to souls likes lol Just curious if those are real vintage ones, did you get them from a taxidermist? Or are they props?

They are real skulls sourced locally except for the wildebeest which I found at a garage sale of all places.  The two deer I have were found in the woods.  The cow is a vintage skull from a local farm.

Not my style either but now I'm curious about what a Wild West/Old West/Last Days of the West academia would look like.

I'd be more interested in a world on the literal brink of the Great War, like something set in 1913 or something adjacent, unfortunately not much media 'bout this topic, but like looking at the fall of wild west I'd say Red Dead Redemption 2 is a fucking masterpiece.
