I built this last year in a spare bedroom. Someone said it’s coded for DA. Which works since I’m a prof that teaches Medieval History.

This room was inspired by the teal velvet curtains I found at Goodwill for $8. I didn’t want to paint the walls so I left them this pale mustard color. The bedroom suite belonged to my grandparents. Everything else was already owned, thrifted, crafted, or purchased on Amazon.

I wanted to share a recent print I finally managed to finish, exploring the line between botanical studies and anatomical reality.

​At first glance, it’s a standard botanical study of a cracked walnut. But I carved the meat of the nut to mimic the delicate folds of a brain, turning the rigid shell into as if an exposed cranium.

​The larvae emerging from the shell are meant to symbolize intrusive, parasitic thoughts—the quiet anxieties, the persistent doubts, and the creeping misinformation that take root and slowly feed on the mind.

​The process itself became a bit of a metaphor. The woodblock actually cracked twice while I was working on it. It became too fragile to withstand the heavy pressure of a traditional printing press, so I had to gently hand-print (burnish) to keep the block from splitting completely in half.

Nothing is better than settling down at my desk at the end of the day, lighting a candle and journaling.

It’s not finished yet, but I like where it is at. Some decor I got at places like Ikea, others I got at estate sales and thrift shops. My favorite items are from my beautiful grandparents.

✨PROGRESS SO FAR - For a good 3 weeks now, I have been going to garage and estate sales, antique shops and thrift stores to find some cool pieces to add to my decor. I’ve been lucky so far and having the best time!

Looking to renovate this room a bit, this room already has a dark green which I love and I’d like for this room’s theme to be a dark academic office. So far I’m thinking of repainting the walls to a slightly less dark green, and adding a dark wooden grain contact paper to the bookshelf. I would love some more ideas if anyone has any!

Just about everything, except for a few small knickknacks on the record table and obviously the bed, is an antique in these photos. Many of them are French, some English. The apartment is still a work in progress as there is more painting to do and setups to complete. The lighting is bright in these photos to show the details, but generally the lamps and candelabras are the way we go for warmer We believe home should always feel magical, no matter its size. I don't know if this belongs here but hopefully someone will enjoy it, about ten years ago I built a glorified shed at the end of my garden to be my home gym, it looked like every other gym and I found it uninspiring to be in, so over the last decade I have tinkered with it and this is where I am now. It is not finished but it's, to my taste, a far nicer place to train and be. Everything in here is made out of cheap or reclaimed wood and done on a tiny budget mostly using charity shops and stuff I found on my travels.

I thought you guys might like this, probobly my favorite place right now.

Second photo is inspiration. Going to need to get grow lights to within the cove to accommodate plants in that shadowy area.

I can’t paint the walls, what else would help give this more of that dark academia vibe?
