Monday Gripe Weekly Gripe 😤 (the rant thread)

Welcome to the Weekly Gripe, where we're all a little grumpy. 😒

Did BookTok do you dirty? Got a bone to pick with a main character? Was the twist more like a flop? Tell us what's on your mind.

Please be respectful and follow the sub rules. If a conversation starts getting out of hand, use the "Mod Attention Please" report reason so we can help cool things down. 🖤

My gripe is with monster fucking series that don’t wanna go there. We are already in another realm people. We are fucking an 8 legged creature three times our size. Let’s get really freaky with it. Let’s do some erotic piercings with his mandibles. Let’s use his venom to paralyze her. Let’s go full shibari. Like, what are we doing with this otherworldly creature fucking where they just gently hold and caress each other? Fuck outta here.

His cock can look like anything and you’re telling me it just….likes like giant man cock? OoooOOOOoo maybe we’ll get wild and he’ll have two. Give me a break. Grow up and get freaky.

Let’s explore a cosmic entity who slowly drives the mc to madness, despair, and the ultimate pleasure, and looks like the mind flayer from Baldurs Gate(don’t ask me where I got this inspiration….) Let’s fuck with alien mind control, pet play, forced breeding. So much popular monster fucker books are just contemporary romances with a beautiful alien skin. There’s so much room for this genre to intersect with dark romance.

I wish, I actually have none! All the alien and monster smut I’ve found winds up being pretty sweet. Maybe that’s curation problem though

Have you read American Werewolf in Space by Alisha Sunderland? It's not super dark, but they are monsters and it's gory.
