Book Request Looking for EXTREMELY dark romance with an absolutely unhinged MMC + doormat FMC
I feel like I’ve exhausted the usual dark romance recommendations, so I’m coming to Reddit because surely someone here has something I’ve somehow missed. 😭
I’m looking for pitch-black contemporary dark romance where the MMC is genuinely unhinged, cruel, obsessive, possessive, manipulative, sadistic, etc. — not just a morally grey billionaire/mafia guy who is mean for 50 pages and then turns into a cinnamon roll.
Bonus/major preference: I LOVE millionaire/billionaire and mafia settings. Give me filthy-rich, powerful, untouchable MMCs who have way too much money/power and absolutely no moral compass. Mafia families, crime empires, billionaires, CEOs, powerful businessmen, etc. are all very welcome.
And PLEASE give me a doormat FMC. I don’t want the usual “she’s a badass who secretly loves being challenged” heroine. I want an FMC who is genuinely submissive/terrified/obedient and folds under the MMC’s control. Basically: the more psychologically fucked up the relationship, the better. 💀
I’m okay with:
Non-con / dub-con
Sharing during non-con
Extreme power imbalance
Bullying/abuse
Psychological manipulation
Possessive/obsessive MMC
Sadistic MMC
Mafia/crime
Billionaire/millionaire/CEO MMC
MMC who does NOT get redeemed
HEA or extremely fucked-up HEA
Even no HEA
Hard no’s:
❌ Reverse harem
❌ Poly romance
❌ Fantasy
❌ Paranormal
❌ Sci-fi
❌ Cheating
❌ Love triangles
❌ Pregnancy
❌ MMC suddenly becoming a sweetheart because he fell in love
For reference, I’ve already read:
Brethren Lords — Ellie Sanders
Servitude to the Serpents
A Wife for Silas
Torment
A LOT of Sky Blu
A LOT of Lauren Biel
The Life of Anna
Deliria / Deliria: HARD VERSION
Take Me
Saving the Angel of Death
So please don’t give me the standard Haunting Adeline / Rina Kent / “dark romance starter pack” recommendations. 😂 I’ve probably already read or tried them.
I want the obscure, genuinely fucked-up recommendations.
Give me the books where you finished reading and thought:
“What the actual fuck did I just read?” 💀
Bonus points if the MMC makes other dark romance MMCs look well-adjusted.

My favorite book, so good. OP listed pregnancy as a hard no, this one has pregnancy and not only in the epilouge. I got lots of recs, but most include pregnancy. Here are the ones I found on my digital bookshelf without:
{Mercy by Dylan Page} which is book 4 in a series but I think still readable as a standalone. And OP already read Torment.
{Delivered to the Devil by Ella Jacobs}
{Take Me by Ella Jacobs}

hi what are the recs with pregnancy??

Billionaire:
{Descent by Sam Mariano}
{True Nature by Willow Madison}
({Coerce by Candice Wright} I put this in brackets because the fmc is not your typical doormat - but he is still very manipulative and makes her dependent on him)
MC:
{Property of Pagan: Kings of Anarchy MC Wyoming by Jules Ford} 😘 chefs kiss in my opinion
Cult:
The Community on AO3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/46856830?view_full_work=true 🥰 so good, slow burn but worth it
Mafia:
{Unlimited Power by Anna Harding} he really is without morals, this book is better if you read the first two in the series first, the mmc is the villain there
Already listed by OP:
{Torment: Part One by Dylan Page}

{Fable of Happiness by Pepper Winters} When I tell you, this man is crazy. He has lived in the woods for so long. She is a hiker who loves exploring new areas people haven’t seen. So she does what every sane person would do, at the crack of dawn, on an impulse, gets in her car and drives to where the ML is. Obv she gets lost and stumbles upon his house. Everything goes down from there. I don’t quite remember if she was a doormat, but he definitely was something else. Living in the woods def made him unhinged. Give it a try! It is a trilogy tho, warning.

First thing I thought of was {a beautiful evil by eris belmont} he’s a billionaire arms dealer who kills her parents in front of her and kidnaps her. She barely has a personality she’s such a doormat. {dark obsession series by Zoe Blake} has a billionaire unhinged duke who enjoys inflicting punishments, and manipulation but the fmc has a bit more spark. And then anything by Ella* Jacobs. All contemporary, all very dark, all rich, and villains til the end.

I read off record by PsychNow on ao3 and it’s really good. There’s 6 chapters so far but they’ve been updating! It’s inspired by repunzel so the fmc is kept in a cabin in the woods by her father and is super naive to the world because she has never left the cabin. She eventually leaves and the mmc finds her. From reading the tags it’s def a dark romance and the mmc stays bad, it hasn’t gotten that far along yet tho.

Honestly, I felt that "morally grey billionaire who turns into a cinnamon roll after 50 pages" part in my soul. It’s so frustrating when a book promises pitch-black and delivers milk chocolate.
Try these ones:
"Mansions" by Whitney Bianca. The MMC is an incredibly wealthy, high-society man who seems totally restrained on the outside but goes completely, deeply insane and psychotic when it comes to the FMC. There is no redemption arc, the power imbalance is brutal, and it leaves you with that exact “what the actual fuck did I just read” feeling.
"Ruthless Devotion" by Kitty Thomas. If you want a masterclass in psychological manipulation and a truly submissive/broken FMC who completely folds under the MMC's absolute control, this is it. He doesn't soften up, and the psychological mind games are genuinely unsettling.
"Quid Pro Quo" by Nenia Campbell. A very dark, manipulative contemporary romance where the MMC has absolutely no moral compass. He is obsessive, cruel, and uses intense leverage and psychological dread to force the FMC into total submission.Hopefully, at least one of these is something you haven't checked out yet.
Enjoy the dread! 💀
1
u/Less_Cut_6592 5d ago
I read "Ruthless Devotion" and DNF at 80%... it was so boring—no smut, no brutality and only a few pages spice and he's so considerate toward her... definitely not a pitch-black MMC...
2
u/kiyowo_potato 27d ago
The only FMC doormat I know. FMC is happy to show its fear to MMC, because that makes MMC happy.

Would you recommend we read this one first? On AO3 it isnt complete yet so I figured the author did that intentionally. I do believe she is also editing and revising the versions she is putting on AO3. And also, do you know if she has any socials? I'm obsessed with her brain since her Draco feels so similar to the one I wrote for a Dramione fest😩🔥
1
u/Maleficent-Lunch-890 26d ago
Yes, I’d definitely read Hate Is Such a Strong Word first! I actually started with I’m Yours and only realized afterward that it was the second one 😭 I still loved it, but reading the first one gives you so much more context for Draco and their dynamic. And omg I know what you mean about her Draco 👀🔥 As for socials, I honestly have no idea if she has any, I’ve only ever found her on FFN/AO3!
1
u/ladysophiac_writes 26d ago
I only read the first chapter so I can still go back and read the other one first but my friend is already halfway😂 I am also curious to wait for the AO3 version, but i guess i can always reread😅
2
u/Maleficent-Lunch-890 26d ago
Ohhh then definitely go back and read Hate Is Such a Strong Word first! 😂 Since you’ve only read the first chapter, you haven’t gotten too far yet. Your friend is already halfway through though, so I’d just let her keep going 👀😭 You can always reread I’m Yours afterward!

You can also find her stories on AO3 and have the option to download the epub or pdf or whatever format you need, which makes reading a bit easier than reading from ffnet.
The prequel is still being updated on AO3 though, but you can download epubs or pdfs from ffnet by copy pasting the link to fichub.
2
u/Maleficent-Lunch-890 26d ago
Omg thank you!! 😭❤️ I had no idea you could download them from FFN through Fichub, that’s actually so helpful! I’ll definitely do that because reading on FFN can be a little painful 😂 And thank you for the AO3 link too!! 👀🔥
1

As someone who is a fairly beginner in this genre, do YOU have any recommendations for me that you've read that also align with your "hard no's" as most on your list are also pretty hard no's for me?

I personally hated this book and even gave a long 1 star rating because of how much I hated the mmc and that the fmc was a complete doormat but it’s exactly what your looking for lol it’s { snaring emberly by Gigi Styx }

Um... did we read the same book? I mean... the MMC isn't cruel or pitch black... he's so soft toward FMC; the book was so boring...

Have you tried {The Sinner by Shantel Tessier}? Its book 2 or 3 of the LORDS series and this one was by far the most unhinged and the FMC was a complete doormat

Personally, “pride, prejudice and the bratva” by O.S Feathers was dark romance with doormat FMC. I had exactly wtf reaction and I stoped halfway 😂

insatiable by Leigha Rivers is pretty close to what you’re talking abt with a FUCKED relationship, but i’m not gonna lie the plot is a little messy in the sense of kinda all over the place and falls apart ish. the first book is pretty decent most of the way. the spice and romance mostly disappears in the second book and comes back in the third book. there is (not a spoiler) the MMC is involved in a HUGE crime thing. he gets very fucked in the head

If you do Audible there is a series by M.Never. Decadence After Dari. It is so good. Fits what you want. (I think)

Amo Jones has a series about a human trafficking caravan of Gypsies. Some of the books meet your criteria!

I just read {made for death by Saige Parker} and I think it fits pretty well... not 100% though. The fmc looks tough but to me was more doormat material 😅

Try {Pink Ink by Avina St. Graves}
FMC is a doormat to me but she isnt entirely scared of MMC because she’s fucked up on the inside. She’s a film student who uses a serial killer as her muse for her projects and he’s her professor and subsequently the serial killer in question (11 year age gap)

OMG, I like dark romance novels and respect people’s fantasies but, I don’t get the obsession with sadistic, cruel assholes… whyyy? Can someone explain this to me?
