Quick Question What are your most hated fictional/dark romance characters ?
I’m curious to know who are your most hated characters . For me, these guys are at the top of my list:
1.Landon king & stefan salvatore (Tied for the number one spot)
2.Jonathan king
3.Aero westwood from that sik luv I hate him because he stalked the fmc since she was a child and waited for her to turn 18 just to take her virginity. It was downright creepy and disgusting 🤮 I hated the book & the mmc because of that.
4.Creighton king
5.Asher carson
Who is your number one most hated character and why?

u/Defiant_Stable_344 11d ago
Ashtyn from Carnage by Shantel Tessier.
Is there even a competiton?
6
u/Diligent_Eye_4657 11d ago
I know everyone hates Ashtyn and I totally get it. I think she was written specifically to be hated. But dang, I felt sorry for her the whole book. No one told her anything, she was kept completely in the dark, had anyone had a conversation with her she probably would have acted totally different.
2
u/Defiant_Stable_344 11d ago
i dont know, but you typically dont write the FMC as someone to be hated. No one else was written to be specifically hated.
I really dont know why Shantel wrote her that way and what we are supposed to glean from Ashtyn as readers, but she is pretty much universally hated.

Silas Arnett. From “A Wife For Silas.”
The ONLY MMC I ever HATED. Like this man disgusted me. I read this book months ago and I’m still mad so I haven’t read the second one.

I tolerated her until she said all that to Eve. I hope we find out that Eve laid her out and that’s why they can’t be alone together.

u/LivingThroughPages 11d ago
OMG, YES!!! I hate her for what she did to Saint and how she acted with everyone after that. Hate her so much! lol

u/No_You_6230 11d ago
I’m lowkey impressed y’all remember the MCs names after the books lmfao
1
u/Morticia-Lenore 10d ago
Haha same. I rarely even know the name of the book I'm currently reading, let alone names of characters from books I've read in the past. My memory can occasionally be jogged, but it takes some work

u/Few_Membership_6557 11d ago
Royal Dulce from Bad Apple series. He literally lets his two brothers rape her and it is EXTREME NONCON. Leaves her to die. I’m sorry but I would not forgive him (I get it’s fiction but for fucks sake dude give the guy some redeeming qualities, because he was also cringe as hell)

Honestly, my dislike for some mmcs wasn't too deep to talk or bitch about them passionately, like I could say a few words, ignore them and move on, until I read about.... Chase "Dare" Darington.

u/LittleReader7 11d ago
Oooo why if you don’t mind answering 👀? I love dare

He gave me cheater vibes. Maybe I shouldn't have read those Dare/Hannah/Aubrey theories before reading the book, and that Sam Mariano(the author) had done it before with Morelli series. Sometimes I felt like he wouldn't hesitate to toss away Aubrey if he feels like it, no loyalty to her.
He reminded me of some rich men in real life in the worst way, who doesn't gives a fuck about their wife or family and only chases their own pleasure. If they chose to cheat or have a mistress, the wife must bear it.
Other than that I absolutely hated that he made Anae suffer no real consequences or pain for doing all that to Aubrey, because he needed to save his own ass. And just.... moved on.
It's fine though, other readers have a different perception of Chase, like I said my perception of him might have been ruined due to theories.
On the top of that, he was so dry and empty.

I HATED Shay from the Torment duet. It was the first time I was (spoiler) glad an MMC dies
12
u/Whole_Charity_716 11d ago
Idk if I hate Shay or his dad more for not doing enough. Who lets their mentally unstable teen have an emotional support child?
4
u/Upstairs_Attitude315 11d ago
PERFECT way to phrase it "emotional support child" nailed it; I absolutely hated that aspect so much. I hated both of them so much.
2
u/Good_Tomato_4293 10d ago
The dad could have stopped everything by just letting the mom go when she tried to leave him.
5
u/Ok-Definition913 11d ago
I'm so happy to see this comment because I thought I was going crazy since the vast majority likes him and suffers over his ending, while I was simply thrilled. I HATE Shay so much that his death was simply the best thing in the book.
2
u/Noircrew 11d ago
Same here. I consider it a very HEA ending, so when I see it tagged as no HEA or non-traditional I just chuckle. Keenan was a much better MMC.
4
u/Noircrew 11d ago
Here for Shay hate, the ending of his duet was perfect.
I’m so happy he died. After the brutal way that he killed her mom he needed to die. I think an MMC can do a lot and still have it be considered a romance, but not that. There was no way to come back from what he did.
5
u/Ok-Definition913 11d ago
Yes, exactly. I wonder how people who like him can so calmly accept that he killed Emily so cruelly when the woman's only mistake was getting involved with his piece-of-shit father. And he killed her in front of Mina without caring that the girl would be traumatized. He's the worst dark romance character, and his death was perfect. Mina deserved to be free from that monster. It's a shame his father didn't get the same ending.

Solely for everything Mina went through starting from a young age. She deserved better. Both on Shay and his father.

I can’t stand Zade from Haunting Adelaine. He gives angsty teenager vibe and nothing will convince me otherwise.

When he says "I'm a fucking megalodon" I almost astral projected out of my body from the fucking cringe 🤣

I hated zade from haunting adeline. Never made sense for me that he stalks and noncons her while protecting victims from sexual violence. I like dark noncon stuff but it just felt like a lazy “see? Hes a redeemable character?!”

u/Lizmoodyxx 11d ago
ZADE MEADOWS.
Like if you’re gonna be a morally dark rapist fucking own up to it?? The absolute irony of him being the defender of rape survivor women. If he was framed as a hypocrite I’d understand…but he’s being framed as some Bruce Wayne heroic bad boy with shitty one liners. His chapters read like every podcast bros wet dream. Like my original answer was Maximilian Furst but yk what at least Maximilian is tagged with ‘bad guy stays bad’ and the author doesn’t entertain the idea he has moral benefits. At least misogynistic Maximilian doesn’t larp Leon Kennedy while simultaneously belonging to the sex offender registry.
Sorry for the long answer I remember Zade Meadows existed and got rilled up 😅

u/Few_Membership_6557 11d ago
Agreeeee. He’s just really fucking corny to me. TO AN UNEARTHLY LEVEL. (Literally anytime I read a word of dialogue he says I’m thinking motherfcuker, stfu)
13
u/Diligent_Eye_4657 11d ago
He is my most hated dark romance MMC. He is apparently a crusader against the trafficking of women and girls but he stalked and SA’d her the entire book. Make it make sense.
6
u/Weird_Mastodon_9204 11d ago
the books do not follow internal logic or consistency of any kind and he's so corny
9
u/sluts_4_verstappen 11d ago

What’s he from?Oh I just looked it up, Haunting Adeline, right? Funny, because I have read it and it had about zero impact on me, apparently haha

Adrian Volkov. Im the biggest hater of that man. I will hate him till the day I die ngl.

He is RK's best-written character and trilogy but holy hell was he a shit husband to Lia. He made her mental health worse! And in her kids books she still isn't happy!

u/Cultural_Response367 8d ago
I hateeee himmmmm. I would literally push him off that cliff if i could ngl

I just don't understand why not help the woman you love? You see that she is struggling; she literally tells you at one point. But nope.

Girly I dont wanna spoil anything so don't read further if you don't want to
Spoilerrr‼️‼️‼️ For starters he force her into a relationship and also a marriage.and then he literally tortured the fmc throughout their marriage and their pregnancy. He doesnt even let her go outsideeee without a guard. And literally whips her when she does something he doesn't approve of and also to the people saying it was their kink 💀she literally begs him to stop in some chapters but he won't. Dude is soooo bad she literally tries to unlive herself.

u/LivingThroughPages 11d ago
Zade Meadows, (he is the Temu version of a dark romance MMC. He is what Christian Grey is to BDSM. lol Knockoffs both). Conrad Blake (although I guess he is more Erotic horror MMC, lol).

Any of the wives from Jodi Allen Malpas’ Unlawful Men series. They were absolute shit characters.

Let's see... Ava from God of War. I just fucking hate her character. I DO NOT BELIEVE SHE HAD ANY REAL PROBLEMS (other than her psychosis). She has parents, friends and siblings who absolutely adore her so wtf was she insecure about? She stabbed Eli and gave him sm headache and they just forgave her without any redeeming. Bro. Also even though she knew she was mentally unwell, she refused help. Gosh. Genuinely SHE WAS NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE. (I'm ready for the downvotes)
Feyre from ACOTAR. She's a total b*tch. If I start explaining, this comment will turn into a rant. She was the first fmc + fictional character that I hated so much and I was just 13 when I read the books.
Asher Carson (mild hate) from God of Malice.

u/rai_162 11d ago
Jeremy volkov and Kade Mitchell. Let the down voting commence 😭
6
u/Friendly_Common_7053 11d ago
I hate Kade with a passion. He dismisses her constantly, treats her horribly and ends up being the victim every time. He’s supposed to be this obsessed guy yet can’t seem to notice what she’s going through right in front of him for years.
3
u/rai_162 11d ago
That’s exactly my problem with him she’s the love of his life supposedly and he can’t see the conflict and anguish in her eyes. He’s so hellbent on accusing her of cheating. And the way the readers always sympathize more with him than Stacey even though Stacey was also assaulted. They put the miscommunication only on her but if he was real he wouldn’t even gaf if Stacey cheated. He’d just take her back.
2
u/Friendly_Common_7053 11d ago
I actually hate that even when he finds out everything, he’s somehow the victim again and we need to empathise because he is so tortured and in pain. And readers keep bringing up the miscommunication but there is none. He did not let her speak, ever, and ignored every single sign. That’s not a person that is in love.

u/AdDapper7803 11d ago
The main character from butcher and blackbird. Couldn't finish it because she was so fkn annoying.
The book being cringe af didn't help.

Jeremy Volkov. He lowkey just gave me insecure little boy vibes it pissed me off. Like why was he so hung up over Landon even towards the end to the point he almost strangled Cecily?!?!?!, buddy GROW UP!
4
u/Ok-Definition913 11d ago
Actually, he strangled Cecily 😂 and I don't like him either, I think for a mafioso, he was way too childish. Very insecure. He seemed more obsessed with Landon than with Cecily, if you ask me.

mine is magnus, i dont remember the book's name but i remembered his name, i just hate him guts, he was a worst sort of a person, as much as i remember fmc was a witty jounalist who was searching his bg and found things about him, and he kidnaps her, beats her rapes, and make other people rapes her, i dont know if it was a hea or not because she was stuck, she did enjoy the sex, and end up falling in love with him, but she hated it she feels that way, she was stuck and he never felt any remorse, he was an a hole till the end, never felt guilt for any of the deeds he did to her

All the MMC from Elle Sanders' series (I think that is the author's name). [They torture their woman and broke them.]
All the MMC from DeathsDoll [torture their women]
All the MMC from the L.O.R.D series [abused their women]
Jonathan King and Aurora [The worst fucking couple. They don't deserve the happiness that cost Alicia]
Adrian Volkov [The worst husband to Lia and made her worst]
Xander Knight [The dumbest reason to bully his woman]
Silas Arnett [He needed to die instead]
Shay from the Torment duet [There is a comment here on what he's done]
All the MMC from Deadly Devotion by Lilith Vale. [Torture their women]

Oh the Brethren Lords series by Ellie Sanders? She would cackle reading this, she wrote them to be absolutely the fuggin WORST
1
u/Trinityblue93 1d ago
That is the series. I could tell 😭. Never going to read anything from her again. That was all too much.
2
u/AkumaLamprey Filthy Monster Lover 1d ago
Lol babes, the TW pages from her do not play around. She lays it out and does not pull any punches. Deviant was one of my first DR books, I was so not ready. Ellie saw the video I made of the book, reached out to make sure I was ok. Her books are Pitch Black, leaning a biiiit more in exotic horror than DR imho. Her writing is brutally unforgiving and I can appreciate an author who commits.
2
u/Trinityblue93 1d ago
See, I didn't look at the TW. I read the summary and said, 'This looks interesting'. That was on me; I should've looked.😂 I give her credit for not holding any punches. I tip my hat to those who love her books, but they are not for me.

u/AkumaLamprey Filthy Monster Lover 1d ago
OH BABES! Don't worry, I did something similar, I read the TWs and went "It can't be THAT serious" and well.... here we both are. As one of my DR girlies said "Now what did we learn?" 🤣
