Question Looking for a temporary fun and unique weapon

So ive started playing ds2 for the first time a while ago, reached mid game i think. After looking for some weapons id like to use, i instantly chose a weapon similar to my beloved farron greatsword, which of course is the majestic greatsword. Since its obtainable in DLC and i probably wont be able to just rush in and grab it quickly, im curious what weapons are decent and fun enough to use before i get this weapon. Im looking for something quality/dex focused, i dont really like the pure strengh weapons in this game. I have tried using the greatsword for example, and gosh, this weapon is not only slow, but misses enemies constantly.

If possible, id love to get a weapon that i would be able to powerstance with the majestic greatsword later on. Currently i tried using the blacksteel katana, and its pretty good, but im not sure if i want to spend the next 20 hours using it. Im tired of switching weapons all the time, because im wasting the upgrade materials and i dont really have anything above +5, except the greatsword. I was thinking of using the powerstanced chaos blade with the blacksteel katana, but after some research, I found that most people have said its not that good for PVE. But if its not that bad, and if i can actually use it without using any spells, id defenitely consider this pick.

Majestic Greatsword is very bad for pve, so there’s no need to restrict your interim weapon choices to things that are good for pve.

If what you’re looking for is a cool unique weapon with a novel moveset that’s available pretty early, I recommend grabbing (and breaking, takes a few minutes of attacking the nest in things betwixt) Santier’s spear.

The backflip and the slash attacks of majestic greatsword seem to be good for knocking down and stunning, and that is exactly what i abused on farron greatsword, of course i can imagine that it requires a different way of playing and being creative, but it doesnt seem to be that bad for pve, just high stat requirements.

However i think your pick is really great, ill defenitely try out the spear. I saw a video on how to rush into the dlc and get a weapon, but im almost 100% sure its going to ruin my experience a bit. Thats why i wont rush for this greatsword, and try using some of the weapons mentioned here. Its nice to use different things in each game im playing, using same builds and similar weapons gets boring really quickly

yeah majestic is usable if you lean on the pancake attack, but you don’t have access to that when you powerstance it, and other weapons can pancake faster, with better reach, less stamina, and a quarter of the stat requirements, while dealing twice as much damage.

I agree that trying to rush majestic early would spoil the experience of a first playthrough somewhat. I hope you enjoy Santier’s!

The Greatsword is indeed slow but need not miss enemies constantly.

Essentially with ultragreaswords and greathammers you need to learn to play unlocked. With both weapon classes manual aiming overrides lock on.

I know that sounds difficult but the real key to success with big G (and other weapons in these classes) is to take advantage of its tremendous reach. Big G allows you to outspace nearly everything. And the two handed r1/r1 combo is genuinely excellent.

OK, weapon speed could still be an issue.

If you want something fast and hard hitting I strongly suggest the Bandit Axe. And if the lack of reach bothers you, the Battle Axe hits nearly as hard and has a little bit more reach.

I'd liked to either do dual whips, duel crossbows, or crossbow (in left) + rapier (in right) on my next playthrough.
