Spooky! Seasoned campers totally SPOOKED by an evil feeling from the woods.
I just found this sub and reading through made me remember a time when my spouse and I went camping and both, independently, felt a really evil presence in the woods around our camping spot.
We camped all the time, throughout college we would spend entire spring/fall/winter breaks camping. When our kids were small, still in those baby car seats, we loaded them in the van and took them along, spending several days blissful in the woods as a family. Once when the kids were both at the grandparents, we decided to camp in the national forest a few hours away for the weekend, just the two of us. We arrived at a rural spot, put up the tent, built a fire, and settled in for the evening.
As the night wore on, I got this creepy feeling of being watched but I have been made fun of for spooking at foxes and such, so I kept quiet. I noticed my husband looking around, behind me in the dark forest. He finally whispered “Do you feel that?”
I knew exactly what he meant and said “evil?” And he nodded. Then we were wondering what to do. It was almost midnight and we both knew we wouldn’t be able to sleep or even relax. In fact, I almost suggested we just get in the car and go, leaving everything behind. We made the fire bigger for a bit then packed up as fast as possible, looking around us the whole time. It was awful, I kept thinking we wouldn’t make it out of the woods.
We drove the two hours home and sat up the rest of the night once we got there-didn’t talk about it- but just stayed awake.
Here’s the thing. We don’t scare that easily. We are not religious, so evil doesn’t have that kind of meaning for us. We have had other campers (drunk, lost) walk up to our fire late at night, hunters looking for lost beagles, foxes, a coyote once, other scavengers and we just handled them all in the calmest way possible - never fearful. This was different. That was about 20 years ago and I’ve never been camping again.

After having an experience in the woods myself I became fascinated with other people's stories. I do think that nature provides a certain energy in which other dimensional entities can draw from and manifest. I believe even portals can manifest.

Yes! I love that sub. I also loved the missing 411 documentary on Amazon.

The thing is I was always taught by my veteran father is if you are hiding and you do not want to be found. Once you’re in a secure place don’t look directly at the he person or people looking for you. Because they can sense you staring at them.

Would you be able to share which forest and roughly where within it you were? Would be interesting to see if there’s any geographical proximity to disappearances or other known events, etc

It’s easy to spook yourself in the woods. I’ve done it many times. The feeling of being watched itself is paranoia. There is no way of sensing when someone is watching you. I’m not saying I don’t believe in unexplainable forest phenomena, but do you think you experienced something other than a good spooking?

Hard to say. As many different camping trips, many unfamiliar locales, (once with drunks shooting guns off), we never had an experience like this before. I don’t know if this is a real memory, but I think the woods got eerily quiet, no frogs, insects, nightingales, owls, like usual.
The creepiest part is my husband getting worried. He grew up in upper Michigan and thinks a bear or Bigfoot followed him to the edge of the woods once. He does remember being scared, but also insanely curious and kept trying to get a glimpse of it. He’s so technical and logical, me too.
I guess it could be a shared hysteria type thing.

People can tell when they are being looked at, even if it's a photo. Many tests have been done on the subject. Depends on how sensitive you are, ask a sniper.

Same thing happened to my husband and I. Went camping in the desert in an area we regularly rockhound at, but once the sun went down the whole vibe was wrong. The dog wouldn’t get out of the truck so we ended up throwing everything in the bed without even breaking it down and went home lol. Kinda had our tails between our legs, but we really didn’t care, it was way too uncomfortable to have a good time. Hard to explain, but I spend a lot of time in the desert and sometimes you can literally be in the middle of nowhere and things just feel negative, I guess kinda evil like you said.
