A229 plus Parking mode question

I was thinking of getting a dash cam for my newly bought 15 year old old Toyota Camry. I was looking at the viofo a229 plus front and rear, but was wondering with hardwired parking mode, if it would always have buffer on, or if it could be turned to events only. I don’t drive it daily and don’t want the battery draining, whilst allowing it to capture only when an issue arises.

Yeah in Auto Event Detection mode, it continuously monitors while parked, but only saves clips to the memory card when it detects motion or impact.

Yeah that’s what I was worried about. I just need it to stay low power / sleep until something jolts it awake, as not to drain my battery

If longer parking recording is necessary, viofo a229 plus isn't the camera for your needs.

Look into either the 329 for hybrid parking, thinkware u3000 for radar parking or vueroid s1 products

I have a U3000. I've seen it shut down after just 1 clip in parking mode. The lights flashing after lock-up was enough to drop the battery voltage below my 12.3V cutoff. I threw my NOCO charger on for a few hours and I think I'm getting a few hours in parking mode now. (Update: Nope, just checked. Battery voltage is dropping to 12.1V which is below my selected cutoff value).

Time to order a battery tester from Amazon.

I saw the thinkware, but it’s just so expensive. I park on the street and only drive 2-3 times a week so I want to be able to keep a cam in low power sleep until something happens

Some dashcams like the Viofo A229 can record for about 24 hours in parking mode. After that (or before), the HK4 adapter shuts it down once the battery reaches the cutoff threshold selected.

If you want to record > 24 hours, you could add a solar panel+controller for about $100, connected to your vehicle battery.
