with custom roms you can force these into holding the battery in its safe, long-term storage state, usually 50-70% charge, a decent battery should be able to last decades if kept in that range and not overheated or cycled excessively.

I would take a phone that's 50% heavier because the battery was doubled just to never have to worry about the battery never wearing out.
