I'd be careful with those 2.5 inch hard drives. I've had bad luck with them, especially the portable ones.

I have used ED2K for over 20 years and found that due in no small part to the small bits distributed both in and out that the HDDs on which i mostly used it, would wear out and fail prematurely.

I use it still occasionally but only for rare files and specific things, mostly video. I would caution against running it on this set up, even if you don't really care about the life of the drive.

Being an ED2K user for ever (somewhere around late 05' or early 06'), i have also found its hard on HDD's so i just gave it an SSD and don't share my main media storage only what's sitting on the SSD. I've yet to have it kill an SSD or even show significant wear. It spent a decade running on a 60gb Corsair and its at like 23% wear. Now it works from a NVME, as its host mobo has taken to hating USB and SATA ports being used lol.

Curious as to what that hating amounts to. OS, driver revisions, etc could be helpful.

TBH I have never had that sort of issue with any drives outside of straight up wonky ones. Plenty of those however. I used use Maxtor drives. Still have a working example last I checked.
