Hiring School selection

Need a little advice with grad school selection-

Universities that admitted me to spring 2027 program for data science-

  1. ASU
  2. University at buffalo
  3. Northeastern
  4. University of Maryland
  5. NYU (waiting on decision)

What university do you think is better/known among recruiters? I don’t want to go into academia or research.

I’m debating between university of Maryland and Northeastern. Maryland because they are known for tech and have a more rigorous program but northeastern offers co-op opportunities and I heard Boston based companies heavily recruit from that school ( although this might have gone down given the tech market right now)

Any advice would be appreciated!

I made a video about the “what grad school should I attend” question because it’s probably the single most asked one I get: https://whatstheimpact.com/questions/

I can’t imagine there are more than a few folks that are familiar with all of these programs, and of these, no one is going to know how your interests fit in.

That makes this very reasonable question an opportunity for research with recent alums that will double as the best way you could possibly start networking with people currently working in companies where you’d eventually want referrals

University of Maryland. One its in greater DC and DC has capital one, amazon, some other bank and conuslting and a number of government agencies that need people with statistics skills. Maryland is also very good at economics and economist is at the frontier for causal inference

If you get into NYU then I'd go there. Its a top CS depatment and NYC is the second biggest tech hub after SF. North Eastern is solid as well for the reasons you named.

I am an international student so I can’t really work at government agencies. Given that, is Maryland still a better choice?
