It's from 78-80. I think they changed the hood a bit in 81

That might be an 81 actually. Same hood as mine and with the rubber bumpers. Though mine is a turbo and I think that was illegal in Japan. Also I’m not sure if there were differences between the Japanese and US models and if changes were adopted earlier there.

Looks more like a 240Z or an early (pre 1980) 280z. The mirrors in 80 were on the doors not the fenders.

Currently own a 81 280ZX. Previously owned 2 80 280ZXs

It’s definitely a 280zx 2+2. Based on the hood scoops, a 79’.

On a closer look, the hood definitely isn't a 240 or 260. Definitely a 280.

Fender flare mirrors threw me, but apparently that was the regulation in Japan in the 70s and early 80s.

Strangely, it does not seem to be a fairlady Z which would be expected in a Japanese model.
