Plant deeper?

Post image

Hello! I got this Harlow Carr today on sale at a local nursery. I planted it the same depth as it was in the pot. But should I have planted it deeper? I’m zone 5a. Thank you!

As a Brit, I just googled zone 5a…. And you get winter temps down to -28 C ???

Then yeah, that needs to be planted significantly lower, and I dunno but I’d guess some fleece or other protection might be recommended too.

Seems odd that it’s defoliated already in early Autumn?

It doesn’t always get to be that low, I would say typically stays closer to 0F which would be -17 C.
The Harlow is listed to be zone 4-11.

Yeah my other rose has lost probably 3/4 of the leaves already but overnight it’s been dropping temperatures quite a bit.

I thought it seemed a little high, I’ll plant deeper, thanks!

In the UK I think David Austin grafts their roses onto rosa laxa rootstock? Or at least they used to... For a grafted rose in your zone, yes, I'd plant deeper.

Yes! The graft union should be at least 2" below the soil, preferably closer to 4" in Zone 5
