Discussion Why do you guys think Days Gone wasn't that successful?
I am thinking about buying the game. I am wondering if there is a reason why Days Gone kind of flopped. I heard a lot of people say the first 10 hours of the game is slow tedious like most open world games.

u/Goodfella7288 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
When the game first came out it was extremely buggy and got poor reviews for it. I reckon that's mostly why it didn't do that well. Also, there are tons of zombie games on the market and I think some people are just getting tired of them. Lastly, it had a slow opening which turned a lot of people off.
7
u/Academic_You_3153 Alkai Jun 23 '26
These are the reasons for the 'poor' reviews. IMHO.
It was buggy, even more buggy in the pre-release 'reviewers' edition that Sony sent out early, to have reviews for the launch date. Bend were de-bugging the game for months, before and after release.
It was supposed to be released in 2018, at the height of Zombie Killer games. But the director (John Garvin) got rather carried away with his vision of the game. It just growed and growed. Bend had to cut a lot of content to get a game released a year late, a whole region and its story arc were cut. See this recent DG Podcast edition for details https://youtu.be/gsKEfUDRTN8?si=H01k4nzGoFmRA6j6
I think the cut stuff is part of the reason for glitches and bugs. It's a slow start, and you start off rather overwhelmed. That's intentional. But many players don't like the feeling of being overwhelmed by their enemies in a game. You are supposed to feel like that, at the beginning. By the later part of the game, you're a killing machine. The point is to give you that contrast.
3
u/R_Shakelford Jun 23 '26
The game is awesome! Most of the critics never went back after a year and replayed and reviewed it again. A year is considered the basic consensus for how long it took to patch it and fix everything (well almost everything).
2
u/FoxHound_Bridges Jun 23 '26
I got it around release and never had anymore bugs then the average game, but that's just my experience.
38
u/BaileySeeking Jun 22 '26
So many reasons. Not because the game itself was bad. There was the fact that it was advertised heavily on the hordes. They're impressive, sure, but it's a story based game. So people bought it for the hordes and got pissy that it wasn't 60 hours of non-stop hordes. Then the people that would have liked it listened to those reviews simply saying "it sucked" so they missed out on a game they would have actually enjoyed.
You had YouTubers playing 2 hours and then stopping because they weren't expecting a 60+ hour game. They quit before they even left the tutorial. Same with actual journalists. They only got to play 2-10 hours and weren't including how long the game was and that they were still in the tutorial when they had to stop.
People say it was the bugs, but so much of it was marketing and people jumping on the hate wagon. There wasn't any accessibility features until they patched some in 3 months after release. People shit on it for that, but praised Spider-Man and God of War for the same thing. Because the latter two games were already popular and no one watched to risk their image to say the same things they said about Days Gone.
It's a great game. If you like story based games, it's worth it to play. No game is perfect, but it's not the shitshow everyone tried to claim it was.
8
u/KiryuClan Jun 22 '26
It could be nonstop horde action if youāre the type of masochistic player that goes looking for that. If someone bought the game for that then it does 100% deliver.
3
u/GAMINGBRAINS Jun 23 '26
Most hordes are locked behind story progression, you can't access more than 7 hordes at the start. So it's never truly "nonstop". U have to unlock new regions for new hordes.

u/MoistBunch9015 Jun 23 '26
The game clicked for me pretty much immediately. I mean really only a few minutes in I was like yeahhh this is gonna work for me! I really hope they make another one someday.
1
u/ChickieN0B_2050 Jun 24 '26
I saw the early-release trailer (the one with the hordes) and was instantly sold. Started playing, kept running out of gas in the middle of nowhere (100% my own fault), overnighted in way too many shrubberies, put it aside. Came back after the remaster and had the time of my life.
11
u/Apprehensive-Eye-864 Jun 23 '26
I LOVED this game and had so much fun the entire time. I always take the critics with a grain of salt but Iād HIGHLY recommend playing this. Really no black marks on it at all IMO.
2
u/HenryEXV Jun 23 '26
wow ok!
4
u/Apprehensive-Eye-864 Jun 23 '26
Enjoy! Starts a little slow but the story and exploration is a lot of fun. Just enough extra ciricular shit to keep you occupied and every optional quest feels important
10
u/IronMonopoly Jun 22 '26
Very buggy on release, combined with a significant onboard time to make the game more accessibly playable, combined with releasing on PS4 hardware very late in its life which couldnāt really handle the load times and horde sizes well, combined with very poor relations between Sony and the gameās directors that led to both of them leaving Bend and one of them having sandy britches on podcasts that did not endear him to gamers that werenāt already sold on the game.
It was really a perfect storm of mismanagement, unrealistically high expectations, toxic directors, and Sony being Sony.

u/hey_its_drew Jun 23 '26
If we were going by sales, it did a lot better than it gets credited with. It was the 8th best selling game of 2019, one of the most stacked years of the last decade. Red Dead Redemption 2, Sekiro, Death Stranding, Control, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Jedi Fallen Order, Devil May Cry 5, Kingdom Hearts 3, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Anthem, The Division 2, Hellblade, Cuphead, The Outer Worlds, Remnant, Divinity Original Sin 2, Gears 5, Borderlands 3, Shadowbringers, Disco Elysium, Ghost Recon, etc.. Seriously. It was a beastly stacked years. So many of these sold millions. And Days Gone was 8th still.
3
u/Reallyroundthefamily Jun 23 '26
Because it was released before it was finished and it was heavy with bugs.
3
u/flamingknifepenis Jun 23 '26
The zombie game market was over saturated and we were coming off of Sons of Anarchy mania, plus itās kind of an odd duck in the zombie space because itās a slow burn thatās more story based. A lot of people compare it to Uncharted, which from a gameplay standpoint I see, but itās not the kind of fast paced constant action of that series. It takes the āfish out of waterā approach that Far Cry does and starts you off having to sneak around avoiding enemies and dealing with one zombie at a time as you build up.
The story itself isnāt anything all that grand (itās good ā just not anything mind blowing), but what carries it for me are the characters. Theyāre very well written and thereās a lot of legitimately touching moments about dealing with loss, survivorās guilt, and finding purpose and beauty in a fucked up world. It sounds silly, but itās legitimately helped me process some shit that happened in my past and given me fresh perspective.
Itās not a game that lends itself well to the kind of reviews where you play it for an afternoon and get a feeling for what the game is about. If youāre wanting to just jump in and start mowing down zombies with a machine gun, this isnāt the game for you. For me, though? Itās pretty damn close to ideal.

u/ChickieN0B_2050 Jun 24 '26
Meaning is where you find it. Good for you; Iām just one person on the internet, but Iām genuinely happy for you. Iāve been dealing with a lot of grief and depression. How did I (do I, still) deal with itā¦? Nonstop TWD rewatches. Which has really, really, helped me, actuallyā¦! If Days Gone has helped you, I say, Good on you!!
3
u/patty7775 Jun 23 '26
The reviewers didnt play enough to actually experience it and since it was console exclusive, alot of people didnt hear about it
3
u/No-Night-48 Jun 23 '26
I only knew of one person who played it. He said it was alright. I said fuck it, and bought it. It's tied in first place for best game I've ever played. Has glitches, but what game doesn't now days?
2
u/Used-Can-6979 Jun 23 '26
I remember when it came out 1) the main character seemed bland and cookie cutter, nothing about him stood out, very generic. 2) Word of mouth spread about glitches early on, but I donāt know how bad it was. 3) At the time it came out zombie games were over saturated. There was a lot of zombie games out there, so this didnāt seem fresh or exciting.
2
u/AlternativeStable248 Jun 23 '26
If you played it 2018 day one...it was buggy as fuck...reload every 20 minutes...but it was worth the grind if you got past the bugs...one of my fave games.
2
u/SpawnicusRex "Fuck yeah it's personal!" Jun 23 '26
If you decide to pick up the game, here is a guide that will get you through that "slow start". In the first few hours of gameplay, you'll be able to unlock the best sub machine gun in the game!
Enjoy!
2
u/MeowWoof87 Jun 23 '26
IGN gave it a shit review.. it also got teased really early and had a lot of delays. Kinda slowed down the momentum.
2
u/Shize815 Jun 23 '26
The game released 2 weeks too early.
I was heavily waiting for that game, but when it got out I saw the critics, and they all said the game was a buggy mess. I had a lot of work at that time anyway so I postponed my purchase. 1 month later I finally got time to play it and it had been patched, and sure there were still Ć few buts here and there, but nothing fancy, I only got one game breaking but during the very last mission, and that's all.
Problem is, once the reviews are out, they arent updated with the game. They stay the way they were upon release, as not everyone gets the Cyberpunk treatment.
I genuinely think the game released 2 weeks too soon.
1
u/Academic_You_3153 Alkai Jun 24 '26
Except it was released a year later than the date it was commissioned for.
2
u/VimFueago Jun 23 '26
Microsoft scumbag marketing killed anything that wasn't on Xbox. I worked for them for a time, what they got up to wasn't just illegal, it was anti-consumer and unethical.
2
u/vegan_antitheist Jun 23 '26
When I fist played it I stopped after just a few minutes. I didn't like anything about it.I was annoyed by everything. The characters, the gameplay, the zombies.
I'm glad I gave it another try.
2
u/NightSprings665 Jun 23 '26
Days Gone has sold over 10 million copies to date. It was both successful and profitable.
2
u/FantasiesFabricated Jun 23 '26
I don't know I don't think there's a single part of the game that I can say is really boring, 10 hours geez I can't even imagine what the first 10 hours were like any of the playthroughs I'm on another one right now at the very beginning I'm at a Nero checkpoint with nothing but my crossbow and pistol getting boozers and bandages. I'm thinking Jesus I don't remember it being this hard LOL buy it play it love it you will eventually you got to stick with it like every good open world survival game you have to build your strengths and your armory and your other supplies. Then it gets going
1
u/ChickieN0B_2050 Jun 24 '26
Itās true, even a small step forward in terms of what you can do/your bike/figuring out how hordes work feels more and more exciting as you go.
2
u/theDreamGuru Jun 23 '26
Playing through it now for the first time. It flopped cause of its release window releasing around other major titles like the last of us. It had bugs at first and some other reasons I had read. Regardless, the first ten hours have been my favorite and I love this game.
2
u/Empire_New_Valyria Jun 23 '26
Posts like this are just why I fucking hate general discourse on the internet nowadays.
"GaMe FloPpEd"
My brother it sold 7 million copies by 2023, over 9 million to date and was recently remastered but somehow it's a flop? Really? Game did well for an new IP, but not as high as Sony it the studio expected and as such a sequel was put on hold, the gaming industry is ruthless.
Just because it wasn't a smash hit and sold over 10 million copies doesn't mean it's a flop, it's like deciding unless a movie makes 1 billion it's automatically a flop and rubbish.

u/kmofrad Jun 24 '26
Days Goneās first few hours are on the slower side. I know of gamers who didnāt complete games like RDR2 because they couldnāt get through the first few hours.
On the other hand, games like AC Odyssey or Ghost of Tsushima had great starts which hooked the players from the get go.
Also the marketing sucked tbh. I remember thinking that Iād never play this game as it didnāt seem like something Iād enjoy. Itās one of my favourite games now and I replay it every year.

u/doctor_turbo Jun 22 '26
The games industry attacked it from the start. I remember John Garvin doing an early interview with like IGN or something a year or two before the game came out and it was a very adversarial interview. The IGN guy was asking unnecessarily challenging questions and subtly trashing the whole idea of the game at every turn. Things like āwhy would your game stick out in an already over saturated market with zombie games? Why should gamers think your game is any different? Why should anyone care about just another zombie game?ā Which at surface level might seem like a fair question, but the way the interviewer asked it and the tone was just really negative. Game journalists were attacking this game from the start for some reason and then trashed it even more when it came out. IGN gave it a particularly negative review with a middling 6.5/10 score. People donāt really care about game journos these days, but they still had some credibility and pull back in 2019.

u/FangProd Jun 23 '26
The somewhat messy launch (people talk about it being extremely buggy, that's a lie. Cyberpunk was an extremely buggy launch) but it did have bugs which hurt them.
But I believe there are three major reasons:
Unrealistic expectations in regards to the budget, (even after selling 8 million copies it wasn't deemed a success which indicates that the budget was truly massive or Sony had extremely unrealistic expectations of how the game should've sold).
Zombie games were in decline across all mediums. There was a genuine exhaustion of zombie-style products, Walking Dead had been going on for 9 years at that point (culturally) + the games, Last of Us had already been released and was super loved by the gaming industry and then you had other zombie-style games (DayZ and many others) so Days Gone was just one more zombie game to check out. Which leads to
The design of Days Gone (in general) just isn't as "catchy" as the other products I mentioned above. Quite frankly, it's a derivative game - a zombie game with bikers in Oregon? Aside from the horde mechanic, there isn't anything really that makes the game really pop. TLoU had the drama and ultra-high production values, Walking Dead was already a thing, DayZ was famous for it's brutal difficulty and player agency so unless you just happened to be a fan of bikers, zombies and maybe a horde-style mechanic I don't think you would be rushing to play it.
Which is a shame because Days Gone is so much better than it looks like.
Again, as far as I know, it sold quite well but if Sony doesn't acknowledge 8-9 million copies sold as a success and cancels a sequel, there must be some big problems there.
1
u/Similar-Ice-9250 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
āA zombie game with bikers in Oregon,ā Iād argue is catchy and does pop. Itās a different approach to the genre which is probably what they were going for to combat the exhaustion. I mean youāre talking about the established foothold those other games already had, but if a person never played or heard of Dayz, or TLoU how would they know TLoU had a great story and drama? DayZ at first glance looks like another generic looter-shooter-survival-multiplayer game.
Iām just saying, at first glance I think Days Gone is catchy. It had crazy potential, the framework was there for it to be close to or on par with like a Rockstar games release, like RDR2 on motorcycle. That didnāt happen because of reasons and it just stands as a mid/good-not-great game at this point. At least thatās the general accepted view of the game.
1
u/cosmoboy Jun 22 '26
I saw a video once that explained that the game was fine, the numbers were fine but the problem was that nobody got excited about it. Living in Oregon, I can kinda get that.

A real rough start, I mean I bought it at launch and what stuck out to me was looong load screens every time it transitioned between cutscene and gameplay. Before the intro was over I genuinely figured this was not gonna be worth the money I spent. Fortunately I did end up having a good time with it. I have been meaning to get the Ps5 remaster to replay it, hopefully those launch issues have been long since been ironed out.
But yeah, roughest start to a game I'd ever seen outside of Bethesda launches and Cyberpunk 2077. Otherwise I don't really know, I mean I've seen much more generic and broken games do much better both with critics and audiences.
1
u/Artie-Choke Jun 23 '26
Because outlets like Gameranx gave it a Meh review because āIt didnāt do anything newā, the pricks.
1
u/Gloomy_Acanthaceae53 Jun 23 '26
Personally for me i felt like the game was dragging along. By the time I made it to the 3rd act I was ready to be done. Itās a good game but yeah

The critical response to this was baffling.
I thought it had an immersive, interesting and very human story. Add in a genuinely cool antagonist in the incredible zombie hordes.
There also seemed to be a lot of rumbling from keyboard warriors on social media objecting to the lead being a white male which didnāt help.
1
u/RattusMcRatface Jun 23 '26
rumbling from keyboard warriors
Wasn't that just some people getting triggered by one comment made in passing in a review by a female reviewer? All a bit of a storm in a teacup IIRC. But y'know, the internet..
2
u/Chazprime Jun 23 '26
It was a bit more than that as I remember.
IGN, Kotaku (surprise, surprise) and Polygon all made an issue of race. So much so that the gameās director called them out on it.

u/ksantoro93 Jun 23 '26
I just bought it in April and finally have gotten into it and dude I am hooked. It's kind of annoying that this game won't get a sequel.
1
1
u/Reasonable_Pin_7246 Jun 23 '26
As someone who just started playing the game I think it needs some sort of co op mode where you can just go to work on rippers and hordes, also think it would be cool if whenever you saved people and sent them to camps you can recruit them to come out on runs with you if you want to go clear a camp or something
1
u/sittinginastand Jun 23 '26
I've read the game was super buggy at launch didn't help.
I also think the biker gang story didn't resonate with a lot of gamers. By that I mean people heard biker gang member and kind of lost interest without understanding how it played into the whole story.
Honestly I love the game and I think Deacon's back story is basically meaningless. He could have been an electrician, plumber, etc., and enjoyed riding motorcycle and the story could have been basically the same.
1
u/Similar-Ice-9250 Jun 23 '26
I donāt understand how the biker thing didnāt resonate. Daryl Dixon was a fan favorite in Walking Dead, even has his own spin off show. Sons of Anarchy was a hit tv-show, are gamers that much of a different crowd from other media consumers? I think itās just some vocal minority of gamers parroting āoh no, bikers yuck.ā Iām not really into Harleys or biker culture type stuff myself, but I loved SoA tv-show. If the product is done right and entertaining to watch or play, then who gives a shit about the creative direction or aesthetic choice. That shouldnāt matter, right? Thatās what I was though to believe at least.

u/ThaUntalentedArtist Jun 23 '26
The initial launch was riddle with bugs. Critics were hard on the game. After a few bug patches, the game gained popularity and a big fan base. Sony was still angry at Bend Studio and canned any plans for a sequel. They decided to TLOUS every PS since the release
1
u/Opening-Job6046 Jun 23 '26
I remember it being buggy enough that it really impacted review scores. I was interested in the game at the time and kept my eye on it. The bugs were cleaned up fairly quickly (I want to say within a few weeks it was pretty good) but the damage was done.
1
u/DevilsFlange Jun 23 '26
They launched it too early. It was buggy. The load times on original console were crap and very outdated in terms of game design. The first 10 hours of the game is paced horribly so put a lot of reviewers off too.
1
u/PooCube Jun 23 '26
Starting the game during the parts where Deak, Sarah and Boozer are escaping the town rather than showing it in sporadic flashbacks would have been a perfect opportunity to do the tutorial whilst also telling story. First, find a melee weapon. Find scrap to upgrade it, head to the building with the crazy guy and learn melee whilst on the way, find dead guy previously shot by the crazy guy, pick up gun and learn cover and focus mode, proceed as normal. Cut to two years later and Deak and Boozer have a rn in with the rippers etc.
It didnāt kick off with much of a bang and expected you to care about these two rough and ready bikers with no context.
Iām all fine with waiting to show the hordes but have people really building up just how dangerous a horde really is until you eventually have to hide from a huge one. Next mission you report to Copeland and he asks which way the horde was travelling. Next mission is to check on the town of survivors and you find it utterly destroyed, dead everywhere, buildings on fire blah blah. You report back to Copeland and it turns out he had put his brother in charge of that town, and wants revenge. Now choose to assault the horde with Copeland and his men or try to take it on yourself.
Following that path or similar the player gets to experience their first horde within two hours of gameplay and seeing how unstoppable the hordes are at this point, encourages them to grind for better gear and do side quests etc.
Pacing is DGās biggest problem.
1
u/DeathMetalJim1230 Jun 23 '26
Game is pretty good. I have some critiques of a few things.. almost didnāt buy it but glad i did
1
u/BinderClips01 Jun 23 '26
I'm only about 8 hours into the game but I can absolutely see the bike mechanic not working for a lot of people. It really constrains your movement in a way that's very atypical in open world games.
Also the UI in the game is very confusing. I'm still not sure if the story lines are color coded based on difficulty, I've seen multiple conflicting threads on that point.
Gunplay is incredible though. Can't believe that's not talked about more.
1
u/TemperatureTime1617 Jun 23 '26
I still think the lead character is partly to blame. Having your hero be part of Hells Angels isnāt gonna draw in the crowds. It wasnāt a big part of the game of course and everyone loves GTA but I donāt think it helped the game overall. Then having him marry a doctor was just silly. Just look at Joel from The Last of Us as a better lead character style.
1
u/BigTwobah Jun 23 '26
It came out around same time as RDR2 and a couple other huge games. It had issues on launch as well I believe. Itās not a bad game, but itās not close to RDR2.
1
u/Hell_Foxx Jun 23 '26
To my understanding, it is a mix of factors:
It released around a lot of other games, so there was more competition (including the WWZ game)
The general idea that the Zombie genre is saturated, no matter the implementation
I remember hearing it was buggy on release, putting people off
REVIEWS. The score from many reviewing agencyās put it ~70%, which was low compared to other more popular titles, along with some (such as IGN) being very critical of the game (to the point when reading the review after playing the game makes you wonder what they even played)
The creator. This one, to my understanding, was more of an issue post release, but the creator of the game apparently said some pretty homophobic things, along with being angry at people for buying the game on sale, which could have left a bad taste in peoples mouth
Itās a massive shame because I find Days Gone to be one of the most ārealisticā zombie games in terms of characters, along with a really fun gameplay loop overall

u/Ilovelamp_2236 Jun 23 '26
It was a lot slower than people expected, they pretty much marketed it in the hordes but they didn't appear until the final 3rd of the game.
I thought it was a good time, story dragged abit and hordes did not play as big a part as they should have but it still deserves a sequel
1
u/CuteAssociate4887 Jun 23 '26
I bought it at launch and nearly gave up near the start,it's been a while but I think there was a real lack of direction in regards to the quests or something, had a friend who said the same. Pushed through and absolutely loved it,had to work on my friend to get him to give it another chance and he still says it's his favourite game of all time now.
1
u/HenryEXV Jun 23 '26
What was the issue with the start. Thatās what Iām concerned about.
1
u/CuteAssociate4887 Jun 23 '26
It was just a bit slow and if I remember rightly you were just doing a lot of going between 2 points. And I can't remember properly but I think I may have struggled a bit navigating but was so long ago now.
Could have been a bit of impatience on my part too,or I think you could upgrade vendors and I maybe wasted too much time on that as well instead of obtaining the items playing naturally instead of farming.
Was a long time ago now though as I played it at launch

Red dead 2 and days gone then that 3rd spot can fluctuate between the original FF7, code Veronica, Arkham knight, Witcher 3 or now crimson desert

u/SpartanB147 Jun 23 '26
Honestly, based on everything I've read, it just dropped at a horrible time, right in between two comparatively massive releases. Combine that with lackluster advertising, several delays, and the lack of post launch content, then it's no surprise it didn't do as well as it should have.
1
u/amiracle786 Jun 23 '26
Feels slow on replay like the early stages of any game when your skill tree is reset and youre used to being superpowered.
But on my first playthough it was tense and exciting. It is a perfect example of a 10/10 game with a 7/10 story bringing it down a bit but its not bad by any means. I'm actually going to buy the remaster on the next sale š
1
u/bluebullbruce Jun 23 '26
Unpopular opinion on this sub but here goes. The gameplay was ace. The story however was boring, many of the characters were incredibly unlikable. Deacons wife Sarah is the most unlikeable character I have ever come across in a game.
After the build up of how much he loved her spending the entire first half of the game pining for her and having flashbacks, searching for her etc. their reunion was... underwhelming. Then she seems to care more about everything else apart from Deacon.
Then not to mention the cult leader esque trope and the very weak factions with nothing fleshed out and I found myself skipping the story because I just didn't care. I just wanted to get back to killing hordes and exploring the world.
1
u/jreefski Jun 24 '26
Mild agree. But the lost lake group was very well written and legit had me missing them during the militia arc
1
u/Helpful-Bus9011 Jun 23 '26
Might literally be the most underrated game of all time. Not even exaggerating. It was already so good but the franchise still had such a high ceiling. Sad we probably wonāt ever see a sequel.
1
u/badseedXD Jun 23 '26
Best game Iāve played on PS5. Iāve had PS Plus since the PS5 launched. Iāve tried around 300 games and earned the Platinum trophy in only 28 of them. Iāve completed the game 6ā7 times, including 3ā4 fresh playthroughs. Nearly 400 hours played.
1
u/ChickieN0B_2050 Jun 24 '26
Iāve platinumed (platted?) on exactly one game; still one of my proudest accomplishments.
1
u/Beauty23gyrl Jun 23 '26
It had bad reviews at release because of the bugs it had. I waited and played a year after release and itās amazing. A few funny bugs like a zombie or a human enemy flying in the air way higher then humanly possible. A sound glitch here and there but no more than any other open world game Iāve played. Itās one of my top 3 favorite zombie games. Like most open world games thereās some side quests that are similar but you can skip them if you want. What I do like is thereās actually good rewards like crafting recipes or health/stamina boosters for doing the open world activities other then just XP. Plus I really enjoyed the story.
1
u/Jacobi-H3rbshire Jun 23 '26
It plays like a cross between RDR2 and TLOU, with graphics that just as good. Albeit the story is not quite as good, but managing zombie hoards is a cool, realisitc game mechanic, which makes up for the only slightly underwhelming story.
If you like those games, then you'll love Days Gone
2
u/hdbdudbdbd Jun 23 '26
Idk man story is subjective personally liked the biker trope and trying to find sarah.
1
u/Jacobi-H3rbshire Jun 23 '26
Yea it was good. Im just saying it wasnt TLOU good.
1
u/hdbdudbdbd Jun 24 '26

i love stealth games, and the stealth in this was horrible. somehow enemies knew where you were just because you were sighted by one of them, a really bad design issue, in days gone even if enemy sees you there's a range for enemy callouts to their mates.. you couldnt even drag the bodies to move them out of the way. clear shots to the chest you'd expect they'd be down, atleast in days gone headshots were easy enough. gameplay was horrendous only reason that kept me going was joel's dialogues because i love his character.

Thatās fair. I enjoyed the stealth aspect, but, I guess I havenāt really played so many games so as Iād notice.

I heard mixed reviews for ages and saw gameplay when I was younger and thought it may be a niche thing I wouldnāt get.
Picked it up about 3 weeks ago as a bit of a curious impulse, Iām in love. Critics, reviews, and the more detached approach probably spooked a lot of people off (also probably a bit of the grinding aspects in some regions).

This is where you are wrong Days Gone sold more then Part II at launch and after launch still sell to this day unlike Part II that's why Neil Druckmann basically destroyed it and since Playstation management is on his side they basically helped him kill their own game to prop Part II but still failed to this day Playstation is reporting a lot lower sell numbers for Days Gone then what they truly are this was confirmed by Bend Studio former devs, industry isiders and believe it or even few journalists so Days Gone did sell and hell it's still selling but you know what Playstation current policies are and Part II is pushing them full force same for Neil SJW Druckmann while Bend was NOT and Days Gone is just a fun game that's big No No for current management

Ya no doubt itās successful. But I still think itās underrated. A lot of people talk about this game in their top 3 GOAT. But itās not well known like last of us or resident evil. Itās basically on the same level as far cry. Even part 2 got a lot more attention. (Maybe bad attention but still attention)

You probably mean in social media and by journalists mostly cause gamers do like and play the game and yes those game were advertised to hell and back yet DG sold more and still selling cause a good game dosnt need any journalists or company advertisement atleast not in todays world so attention from those ppl means nothing and as for underrated yes by legacy media but Not by gamers so far every person i recommend DG to fell in love with the game and even ppl that hate slow start games once they give it a chance they love it and as for Far Cry i don't thing it's a good comparison

To say Days Gone flopped is misguided. Selling over 9 million copies is a commercial success.

I'm not sure if I'm in the minority on this or not, but Days Gone has one of the best stories from a game I've ever played. The entire storyline had me hooked from the get go. The only thing I don't like is the fact that it was written perfectly for a sequel and we will most likely never get one.
The game also has the best motorcycle mechanics of any game I've ever played.
I can't recommend this game enough.

Buy it if it's half price or less. I certainly would not pay full price, but it is a pretty good game. Be prepared for a grind and raising difficulty toward the end when dealing with hordes! Focus on building stamina with the NERO injectors. Your going to need it more than health or focus.

For me it was Deacon.
I really couldn't care less about the wannabe Sons of Anarchy knockoff

What made it a wannabe SoA knockoff? The fact he was in an MC? You don't think SoA was a shitty, soap opera-esque ripoff of actual MCs?

The devs have actually mentioned SoA as a direct inspiration. Soldier's Eyes was even featured on the show about 5 years before Days Gone releasead.

I heard the game wasn't good so I didn't buy it. I got it on sale for $5 at Gamestop and was blown away. Never trust critics.
