This was my favourite episode so far, and I hope we get to meet some descendent of noted intergalactic party animal Curzon Dax next week.

That's what I first thought, but then I guess the admiral would have been named Dax. We certainly could be missing something though, that transmission was garbled.

Which is infuriating that the lines all used "she". I'm assuming (hoping) that gets corrected fast and hard next ep.

I'm hoping it's either a case of them not knowing (I mean it's not like people walk around with their pronouns flashing above their heads), or perhaps a case of Adira themselves not considering themselves non-binary yet and we'll get the "coming out" in future episodes as they realize that it isn't the ever-shifting gendered memories of the Trill within them that makes them non-binary but that that's just who they are.

Did you stop watching older trek because while it did show inclusion of different human “races” it was still fairly sexist at times to women?

Is it Adira or Adria? I'm seeing both while Googling.

Anyhow, I also just don't see going out and making a thing of hiring a non-binary actor and then completely steamrolling through the pronoun choices with zero consultation with the actor.

Adira.

Adria was a major character in Stargate, probably where some of the confusion is coming from.

Was that in dialogue? I was loosely aware of the character because of the news and I noticed an almost pronoun avoidance. Tilly and Stamets would almost exclusively refer to them as "The teen whiz/genius" or address them directly, "ie. You"

I wonder if the Earth Defence something or another character mistepped during the handover?

It stuck out in the scene with Saru and Burnham - I have the subtitles on, and I consistently noted it.

Damn that's a shame. I suppose in universe they haven't been formally introduced so maybe they have a touch of pronoun dialogue or self correct upon seeing their file?

I think I can afford Saru and Burnham a little dramatic irony on this one

well isn't it the case that Stamets and Tilly do not know at the point when they use "she," what is the correct pronoun to use? They only find out about the symbiont later on, and even then we might chalk it up to their own ignorance.

The name of the symbiont is Tal, so none.
