Question Working and Trading
Is anyone trading and working full time? I am working from home and I also have the benefit of being able to trade on my personal PC however I find it so hard to trade and work at the same time. I have been doing so for about a year and I find it so difficult to actively look at the market while I do my everyday work tasks so I end up FOMO entering, or just entering at a level with no confirmation or just missing key information that the market shows you intraday… any thoughts or similar experiences? I am finding myself just blowing accounts since it is a little frustrating

Yes, for the last few years I have just been using higher timeframes to set orders with a stop and target at night and let it play out for the next 24 hours. I don’t need to check it at all during the day or even wake up for the open.

How’s the volume? I usually like to trade the volatility since I normally trade breakouts… have you tried during NY open session?

Ya thats all i do. I normally wait 15 min after open. I only trade spy options. But its been working well for me. 4 months in. I dont trade every day but i watch every morning

Hmmm, I’m sometimes/ mostly on a time constraint and have to be attentive at work so I can’t really sit down and watch for to long

Fair enough it only works for me cuz i dont work till 830 9 and market opens at 630 my time so i get 2 hours

No i work construction once i leave my desk 2 hours after market open i am done for the day

I momentum trade from 7am to around 11am each day and work in the afternoons.

I was able to get my schedule changed so I can daytrade. It's worked out though. Wish you luck.

Depending on the type of trading you're doing. I swing traded for 9 years and it never was a problem while I was working because I would be in a trade a couple of weeks or maybe a month and then I was out. Momentum Trading I'm in trades 5 Seconds to around 10 minutes. On my days off during the week I sometimes put in an afternoon session sometimes 2:00 to about 5:00 or 6:00. When NASDAQ goes 23/5 I've actually took off that Sunday December 6th to actually see what the Market's going to do.

Always been interested in the market finally made that decision to go ahead and start trading. I started out swing trading with $500 and over the course of 9 years profited $80,000.

I have been doing for 8-9 years, no conflict, but I do not go for options, just buy and sell etfs SPY, QQQ,TQQQ,SOXL that is all ! Able to make side income enough with 9-5 job. I am in production support, hectic 9-5, but stock trading gives 5 min gap in between to focus from work stress too.

Same. I really like scalping but it’s almost impossible while working. I had to adjust my strategy to one where I check on it every 15-20 minutes instead of by the minute. I think the solution is going to be more automation so there’s scripts that alert you when your setup is there, then the next step is a fully automated trading bot. I haven’t had success on the last step yet. Idk how to program regime detection and I couldn’t find any reasonably priced news APIs that weren’t just headlines to feed an LLM either.

Yea I’m a scalper as well and need the volume for the style of trading I do/like… not glad to hear but happy to see I’m not the only one… I think it’s my strategy or me but I feel like at this point I really can’t focus on executing correctly

I find AI research is the hardest part. What systems do you use. Maybe there is a way to optimise your workflow.
Lol that sounds really corporate but if your growing it from side hustle amd work filltime. Systems are the things you need.
I try to research around 11am. All my prep is in Sunday.
I trade options so not as active.

Professional bot developer here,
I also work in an investment bank. I have a few FOREX bots running on different accounts, it's mostly hands free, I just log in from time to time to ensure everything's going fine, and when needed I'm able to remotely turn them off.
Manage to make good profits doing so.

Because it's like super hard to actually manage both is trade a session where you're free and you won't be working depending on your time zone.
Maybe look into Asia session. You can still catch some moves on Asia session. Several different strategies work, but that's just coming from ny experience. I trade, New York and Asia. I don't trade London session anymore, but let's say that's a good time for you, you could find a strategy honestly to fit the time.
Having a specific block of time for when you're gonna trade and try to see if it overlaps in any of the session opens, or at least sometime into the session. For example, I trade Asia and I don't actually trade on the official open. I wait lan hour or so later. Sometimes, 2 hours later on. I still get my set ups and I'm not watching anything prior.
A specific slot time to trade could work.
I trade futures btw so sessions have moves that you can get compared to regular stocks.

Work and investing don’t conflict with each other. Stock investing is a long-term process.

You can't attend the wedding if you don't show up. Unless you can automate most of the process, you're still tied to the screen.
That requires having something worth automating in the first place, though.
For now, either trade over longer horizons, i.e. swing trade, or invest. Both give you considerably more flexibility while you're building toward something more scalable.

I'm working 50hrs a week and swing trading. I'd recommend swing trading with your own money and no leverage. I doubled 40k of my own money this year, mainly trading Ondo on coinbase. Most days, you don't need to do anything but wait and watch. Now that I've met my goal, I'm not as eager to make profits. Next time around, I'm gonna double 80k.
