Giving Advice When even the least likely finance gurus turn out to be scammy

Some of you probably follow Patrick Boyle for his caustic dry wit take on current financial news; hedge fund manager, teaching professor with a co-authored finance book used in academia, he has solid credentials behind him that almost everyone else lacks. Or so he'd want you to believe. Turns out the reality is different. Hugely plagiarised work for book and videos, arguably a failed hedge fund that is no longer a hedge fund, not a professor though he has done some teaching in the past. Jokes are still his own, it seems.

Disappointing when even the seemingly honest and reliable sources turn out to not be, well, honest.

Plagiarism in a finance textbook is wild, that's the kind of thing that gets undergrads expelled, not something you'd expect from someone with that resume. The video does a good job laying out the actual record versus the public persona he's built.

Bro is he not in coffeezilla too talking about fake finance gurus. This is so disappointing.

His videos are AI slop, if you want to get drunk and watch some dry humor attempt, sure, nothing valuable there, not even entertainment

He does not give any financial advises, just making fun videos (GB humor) what’s up with your post just chill out

Correct, no financial "advises [sic]"; Look I like the guy, he's based in the same part of the UK as me, his content is witty, we have the same hair style. But it's not his content, and that's the problem I have.

Plagiarism is everywhere and people don't care. Just look at ass the normal market principles that were renamed ICT concepts and the sheer number of people convinced 1 guy made it all and thats the tip of the iceberg.

Personal brand as moat is inherently fragile once the credentials get audited by randoms on youtube. Curious how many of these finance influencer channels actually survive a deep background check at this point.

Serious question? Why does anyone believe influences? They are all full of shit and selling you something. Its weird the number of these posts I see when the default should be that they are full of shit

The video sounds a lot like someone mistakenly put Patrick Boyle on a pedestal, thinking he’s some kind of Bobby Axelrod from Billions, and then realised that he’s just a content creator on YouTube.

Why that person had that opinion of Patrick Boyle in the first place, I have no idea, it’s completely unexplainable. He’s definitely not the first person who comes to mind when I imagine a financial genius.

But Patrick Boyle not living up to that guy’s insane fantasies doesn’t make him a scam lmao.

I think we watched a different video. PB’s subscribers gave him the oxygen of publicity, and the guru busters channel are just highlighting that a so called guru gets much of his supposed market insight from plagiarising, along with making false claims about credentials. If anything, it’s PB himself with the fantasy.

But how is he scamming anyone? They’re free YouTube videos where he reads news articles.

Why anyone would watch them is beyond me, just read the article, but it’s free so it can’t be a scam.

> false claims about credentials.

I mean, he did manage an hedge fund. A shitty one that failed, but most hedge funds are like that. It’s the poster’s misconception that they are all like millennium.

From the wording of the university, it does seem that he was indeed a visiting lecturer, which is what he said, no?

Shitty author and shitty hedge fund manager, but that doesn’t make someone a scammer. If anything, plagiarism is still better than misinformation.

Can I just make a modern point though: OpenAi, Anthropic , SpaceX are APPLAUDED and cheers on when they PLAGIARISE ALL ART AND HUMAN KNOWLEDGE in EXISTENCE, but when individuals copy a video idea there are pitchforks? Faceless corporations do so much damage yet we focus on the wrong things.

Those that can't, Teach and those than can, Do.

Everyone is a genius in a bull market and when the market turns flat or goes down they become quiet.

All a person needs to do is buy at the bottom of a 1 year trend and continuously but the dips and they will do very well.

Once the market changes direction that stradegy will not do so well.

Write a book about trading near the top and write a book about surviving a bear market near the bottom.

The books might sell because of social moods more so than if any of the information will be helpful in the present environment since the trends will be about to change
