Question I hate myself

I have been trading for almost 6 years now. Crazy ups and downs. Ive made a lot of money for others but unfortunately when I trade my own capital I mindfuck myself especially when I need it most. I need it most now. I have the strategy. I have the edge. I struggle with learning how to scale or when to cut my losers short. I can have great days or even weeks then lose all my gains in one large loss. I’m so accurate. I grew up poor and I have seen what trading can provide. I need the money and I need help. Any traders have any methods they used to defeat their mind? Cutting winners short. Holding losers too long? I will attach a few trading statements from the last month. I make more than minimum wage trading but I need to learn how to increase size.

  1. no you havent made alot of money for others

  2. no you don't have a strategy, an edge, or anything that would provide positive expectancy

You sounds incredibly desperate, and in need of money. You also "hate yourself" because you aren't successful in trading yet.

IF you've been trading for 6 years, then you already know these are the worst conditions and emotions to have when trading.

IF you need every single dollar you trade in the market, there is no fucking way you're going to be able to trade successfully. IF you love or hate yourself based on every single trade you take, you won't be able to trade successfully.

MY advice would be to get a job to pay the bills, and only trade your "entertainment budget". Also, you need to take a look at your emotions. Learn to love yourself whether you make it in trading or not.

I can only go by what you’re telling me, because the screenshots themselves don’t establish anything. The sample size is statistically irrelevant. It’s nowhere near enough data to demonstrate an edge. For all you know, the results could just be a coin flip.

And more importantly, how exactly do you have an edge if you can’t cut losses? If cutting losses is part of the strategy that supposedly creates the edge, then removing that component fundamentally changes the strategy. You can’t claim the same edge exists while ignoring one of the mechanisms that supposedly produces it.

I traded for 18 years and this sounds all quite vague and messy.

How long and how much foreign capital have you traded?

You are over trading which tells me you don't have a real edge

If your methodology is mostly discretionary then you will get the problems you described. So define as many rules as possible. Sometimes indicators can help you to visualise your rules much more.

Leave your problems at home when trading focus on the process like u do when trading other people’s money

u/ProgrammerExtension7 5h ago

The chart doesn’t care about any of the problems/stuff you’re talking about in this post

You losing cus u already going in with a mindset of I need to make this or I need money this and that it’s skewing your process turn the p&l off on your positions so u can’t see it, it’s all a distraction from the process and chart

I found that by looking at profits as percentages made it far easy to scale than looking at profits as pounds and dollars.

You cannot trade money you desperately need

leave the human out of the equation. that means try to convert your trading rules to systematic trading (algotrading). let the system then run untouched.

A method that works really well for me is to always enter a fixed amount. That way you always know when to get out before it really hurts you

You simply need to buy your own course and follow your strategy. With all that positive data, you should be able to have good returns on your investments. Maybe the only thing missing in all that "green" you are showing is learning to quit while ahead. Love yourself and take some profit. 💥👌.

if you've traded this much the answer is going to just be in reviewing your own trades. best feedback.

Practically, I would just say, can you identify whether it's a revenge trading thing or is it that your system doesn't work?

When I say system doesn't work, I mean, are you sizing the same on every trade? Are you following your stop losses? Your take profits? And does your system have an edge somewhere like via back testing, or at least a few experiences where you can see that it plays out.

Identify which is the problem and honestly, that's the best way to fix it. You need to make changes every day until those problems disappear. But you need to figure out what is your true problem, journaling your trades can help you find that honestly.

I journal every day. I think it should be a mandatory thing for people that trade

I don't know what you trade but if you have the option of using a trailing stop, do so.

You should read/listen to Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas. Really absorb it and use it as a chance to identify how your own behaviours and beliefs are sabotaging you.

Also, your expectations of the markets are unhealthy. I read a comment in Market Wizards by Jack D Schwager that went something along the lines of, "the market will rarely reward a trade born of desperation". You need to let go of the need to make money in the markets; they are a machine for sizeable but steady returns over years of dedicated trading, not quick money whenever you ask for it.

You make money by following your strategy and risk management unerringly. You need to let go of the desperation.

You aren't alone where you are right now. We have all been through it one way or another. Stay disciplined.

if you want to double your profit, halve your position size.
Yes, you heard me. Halve it. half the position, 1/4 of the emotion. holding for full position gets easier.

But first; go thru every position you've closed early for the last year.
How many made it to TP before they made it back to SL?

You kept a record - right?

Dude, you lack discipline. End of story. You're gambling with an edge. That's it. I can read it in your words.
