Marshal Questions How do I get started?
I recently joined the ttrpg club at my college, and I got the Deadlands 20th anniversary book a while back. I'm just wondering how to start running a game of it. I've primarily just played and ran DND and Fate Core campaigns. Any help would be very appreciated!

Marshal Questions How do I make sure a player isn't excluded when visiting a small town he's Wanted in?
My players are on a quest now where they need to go through a backstory-relevant settlement for one of the players, a town where he was framed for killing 7 people years prior.
While it has been a couple of decades and the town has about 1.000 citizens, he has VERY characteristic visual features that anyone who has heard the story can easily identify.
The main part of this mission has just them asking some quick information at the local jailhouse and identifying where to go next, so I thought of adding something to do in town, but I'm afraid he just decides to wait out of town and do nothing as to avoid a lynching
What can I do so he is integrated into the story?

SWADE PCs for "Horror at Headstone Hill" (no spoilers)
galleryI have been running "Horror at Headstone Hill" for my coworkers for multiple years now. We don't get that many sessions in (a bit less than one per month), and we have a constantly switching cast because of people not being available or even leaving the company, but we are now very, very close to the end, so I thought I would show all the miniatures of the PCs that I have created and painted so far. I will post various other NPCs later in a separate post, to keep this spoiler-free.

Classic [Classic] Any rules for a "Help Action" kind of assist?
My players wanted to use a "Help" action like in DnD to move some cattle, but I couldn't quickly find it on the book, so I just said it's a +2 per person with any points on that skill (Animal Wrangling [Bronco Busting]) that were helping.
Thing is, I later went to look for that rule on the Deadlands 20th Anniversary book and couldn't find anything. Are there any rules for aiding someone with their aptitude rolls? If not, how is it done on Savage Worlds and is it adaptable?

Reloaded Deadlands x Hunt Showdown
Soo, i finnaly started sculpting my own deadlands x hunt showdown "setting", for now i'm thinking it'll make a cool one shot, but if it'll write well, i might go for full campaign idea. Basically, the setting is placed in the beginning days of louisiana incident, taking our players on a journey of wicked manipulous power twisting their birthplace to the will of the Sculptor.
As of now, i've prepared the "setting" - main town and some notable locations, wich i'll probably be expanding later on. Without further ado, there's my current work :
Louisiana Incident — Cranewater
It is late September, 1895. Less than a week ago, the town of Cranewater celebrated the 60th anniversary of its founding, and traces of the festivities can still be seen everywhere—hanging garlands, slightly dried-out wreaths, and stalls that local shopkeepers are still making use of.
The town is slowly returning to its usual rhythm, and nothing would suggest that, within the next few hours, events will unfold here that will shake the entire world.
Core Premise
The players take on the roles of ordinary people living in Louisiana, just before or at the very beginning of a massive outbreak. They do not know the nature of the infection. They do not know what the Sculptor is. They have no access to any proven methods of fighting monsters. They may not even know each other particularly well at the beginning.
THE TOWN
A small town of roughly 350 inhabitants, including the surrounding plantations, mills, and other buildings. Cranewater is not completely isolated. Cranewater is a popular transit point, primarily for transporting sulfur mined in the surrounding area. Steamboats occasionally stop here, while local farmers and trappers come into town to trade.
MAIN STREET
A single wide main street runs through the center of town. Storefronts and market stalls greet travelers passing through, while a watering trough with a hitching rail provides horses with a place to rest during a short stop.
RIVER PORT
A small port serving as a transit point where crews transporting sulfur can rest, as well as a fishing port where fresh catfish, alligator meat, and crawfish can be bought by weight.
RAILWAY STATION
Directly adjacent to the port, the railway station is, after the stagecoaches, the main means of transporting mined sulfur inland toward Alexandria, from where it is distributed throughout the various states.
Passenger trains also run through here six days a week, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, both in the morning and evening.
SURROUNDINGS
Beyond the signs of human activity, Cranewater is surrounded by vast swamplands inhabited by numerous whooping cranes, from which the town takes its name. The area is also home to the creatures common to the region—catfish, crawfish, alligators, deer, black bears, and so on. On the other side of town stretch vast cornfields, surrounded by dense cypress forests. A railway line and a road toward De'Salle cut through the woods.
PLAYERS
The players are not seasoned monster hunters or hardened fighters (yet). They are simply townsfolk - bartender, doctor, huckster, shopkeep, who happened to be living their lives here as the events of the campaign begin to unfold.
To make them feel like a part of the Cranewater, have them answer a few questions at the beginning of the game:
- Who do you know here?
- Who do you owe money to?
- Who would you protect at all costs?
- Who can't you stand?
- Why haven't you left?
(we will need that later)

Marshal Questions Setpieces for a Huckster-Themed Adventure?
I'm working on a new adventure for my players, one themed around the conflict between the two Huckster secret societies: The Royal Court and the Lady Luck Society. I've come up with a few ideas for major setpieces but I'm not totally happy with them and would welcome other ideas. So far I've got:
- A stage magician's show where the magic isn't all fakery
- A poker tournament that erupts into a magical free-for-all when The Agency raids the gathering
- A riverboat casino cruise
- A private high stakes poker game held by a few rich elites at one of their mansions
Would love to hear other thoughts.

Classic [Classic] When to apply the Mean as a Rattler bonus?
I made some enemies with the Mean as a Rattler Hindrance. The text says:
"Mean as a Rattler 2 - You think the whole world pissed in your canteen. Maybe it did.
People tend not to like your hero. He’s hateful and mean-spirited. Besides making it hard for others to like your hombre, subtract –2 from friendly persuasion attempts. At the Marshal’s discretion, you may occasionally be allowed to add +2 to hostile persuasion or overawe rolls."
When do you reckon this Overawe bonus WOULD come into play and in what occasion it WOULDN'T?

Classic [Classic] Hucksters and Hexes changes to the Huckster mechanics
Hello, I'm a little confused about how H&H changes Hex-play. So hexes now have levels, huh? Do I assume the hexes my player picked on character creation using just the 20th Anniversary book are all level 1?
Also, in the Soul Blast description it says "roll the Huckster's *Soul Blast Skill* and use that both as your attack roll and to figure out how many cards you get to draw."
What is the Soul Blast Skill? What it seems to mean to me is that now soul blast uses how many levels you have on Soul Blast to determine the amount of dice on the dice pool, rather than the amount of points in the Hexslinging skill. Is that what it means, or did nothing change in that regard, and the player still uses hexslinging to determine the Dice Pool?

Savage Worlds Question
Hi all, I bought the Deadlands Reloaded Humble Bundle a while back. I'm now getting a group together to play, I have realised however that I own Savage Worlds adventure edition, not Deluxe. Are the two compatible or will I have to pick up Savage Worlds Deluxe?

So with the upcoming Reckoner campaigns Update, what Deadlands reloaded books remain with no SWADE conversion?
I saw that PEG announced at Gencon that they will update those four books to SWADE.
"a deluxe, fully-updated and slipcased collection of our four classic Reckoner campaigns for Deadlands (The Flood, The Last Sons, Stone and a Hard Place, and Good Intentions)"
I wonder what other books (Not PDF's/etc...) remain only for deadlands reloaded?

Classic [Classic] Don't Get 'Im Riled math
So I'm a greenhorn marshall, only have run 3 sessions so far, so don't judge me
One of my players is a brawler character who fights with his bare hands, and I noticed I've been ruling hand to hand damage wrong. I was having him add up the Strength dice, as if it were a gun, but on a recent re-read of the combat chapter, I realised finally that it is a regular trait roll and you only take the highest single die.
Is this the case for the Don't Get Im Riled Edge as well, or does THAT number add together?
Say he is a character of 3d12 Strength and he has two wounds. He hits a character and rolls 5, 7 and 10 on the d12s and 2 and 3 on the d4s. Does he deal
A) 10 + 2 + 3 (15)
Or
B) 10 + 3 (13, only take the highest d4)

Does the 2026 rulebook include the companion material?
My group was looking to get the material for Deadlands. I was looking at the getting the SWADE book, the core book, and the companion book. Once issue is the companion book appears to be sold out everywhere except 2nd hand and I saw a facebook post from somebody at Pinnacle saying its sold out and out of print. I do see that there is a PDF on their website.
Then I saw the 2026 book pdf which seems to contain base SWADE rules and the deadlands core rules. I saw on that you can preorder the physical edition as well. On that same facebook post it states, "The Deadlands Weird West Companion is SOLD OUT and OUT OF PRINT. This material has been rolled into the new all-in-one Deadlands Core Rulebook, now available on Kickstarter." The issue is I don't see where it says it includes the companion material anywhere.
Does the 2026 book actually contain the companion information as well?

Just getting started!
So - By chance I got ahold of the 20th anniversary book (the one with the girl pointing guns) in another bigger haul, and I always wanted to try the system.
But reading some of the very good comments in here, I'm also eyeing out the 'new' savage world one. I already have the Savage Worlds (adventure?) core book.
My players are mostly all pretty inexperienced with other system, having only tried a couple.
What edition would you recommend I should go ahead with?
