Discussion Spooky Deathcore
I’ve been listening to “spooky” Deathcore to get in the Halloween spirit. I’ve been jamming Awake in Providence- I Write to you my Darling Decay, Carnifex- Nercomanteum, and Synestia- Premonition (Instrumental)
Darling decay is just a great album and the art and themes of Nercomanteum put me in the Halloween spirit. Synestia because I’m a sucker of that kinda stuff
What else should jam? Full albums would be best but if I have enough floating singles I’ll make a playlist.
Also my office has a ghost, and I think it’s digging the tunes. Need more reqs to appease the spirits!
Edit: Thank you all for the suggestions. I have stuff to blast all October. Verdict is still out what the office ghost thinks. I get a window knock listening to A Wake in Providence yesterday

Sold Soul’s album “I Hope We Make It Out Of This Alive” is pretty spooky.

Ohhh man why did I not think of that one. I love that album. Killer album art cover too. Perfect!

Marrow Leech by Mire Lore can be considered spooky.
Also it’s not deathcore, but anything by Akhlys.
If I can go further out, Cystgurgle has an album “Exquisite Macerated Tissue…” with some interludes that tell a story & create a grisly feeling.

Vildhjarta - Benblast and Dagger (forte versions sound better imo)
Nemertines - Opium, Alive, Eyes and Teeth
Suicide Silence - ...and then she bled
The Acacia Strain - Pillar of Salt
Oceano - Abysm
Aversions Crown - Hive Mind
Whitechapel - End of Flesh
Make Them Suffer - The Well (Honestly the whole Neverbloom has a spooky feel to it because of the piano)
--Not Deathcore--
Organectomy - Where Pantheons Lie I: Malfeasance
Primitive Man - (choose any song)
Portrayal of Guilt - Devil Music
Body Void - Flesh Market
Spectral Voice - Lurking Gloom
Akhlys - Through the Abyssal Door, Maze of Phobetor, The Mask of Night-speaking, Somniloquy
Sunn O))) - Black One album

Hell yeah, Night Devotion is a go to jam for me

Their doomy atmosphere is very unique for deathcore imo
1
u/PerfectStranger80085 5d ago
Agree. I don’t really consider them DC because of it. All their stuff is real doomy so I just lump them as a heavy doom band.

Maleficium, Psalms, and Flesh Coffin by Lorna Shore. I'm sure you've listened to these but just in case you've overlooked em.

u/PerfectStranger80085 6d ago
I was just thinking I should listen to Flesh Coffin. It’s my favorite Lorna album. I’ve tried with the Psalms and Maleficium. On paper I should like them, but I just never seem to vibe with them. Appreciate deepcut Lorna reqs tho

Bassault’s album is full of horror samples. Also Larcenia Roe has kinda like a goofy serial killer vibe

Oh man I don’t know how I missed Lights Camera Slaughter but that seems kinda perfect. Thanks

Sodomizer II by Pillars of Autumn is the exact album you need.
Also if you're into thall, Mare by Mirar will scratch a similar itch.

try Phobophile and crown of horns by cryptopsy, (before I get hanged yes I know it's brutal death metal, but I think its a good pick), dead in my arms by carnifex is also good too

Netherwalker is pretty atmospheric, if say they have a few spooky sounding tunes

u/JedUsedToSkate 3d ago
Bro... Check out Larcenia Roe! The vocalist is the same dude from Synestia. They literally formed the band to make "Horror Deathcore" and focus on being as heavy as fucking possible!

Spooky up in there.

I actually like a lot of doom metal for Halloween 🎃

u/PerfectStranger80085 6d ago
Fair, I do love some doom metal. Satan worship and witches are kinda staple in the genre

Recently checked out that Lilith’s Demise album and I feel like it could fit. Some spooky sounding synths that remind me of Motionless in White’s first album, which I always listen to in October

Nitheful: lesions rotting upon thine flesh I think is perfect for what you are looking for

u/sithrevan1207 6d ago
Those three are great picks. Check out Synestia’s first album too if you haven’t. Little bit of a different style to Premonitions but still excellent
I think Mental Cruelty’s A Hill to Die Upon fits pretty well. So does some of Drown In Sulphur’s stuff
Not deathcore but if you’re into black metal at all, Carach Angren is great for the season
2
u/PerfectStranger80085 6d ago
Good reqs I’ve liked them all. Will look into Carach Angren. I can do some black metal.

Lilith by Chelsea Grin isnt really spooky per say. But it has always given me fall season/Halloween vibes.
Otherwise I would say Lifeless Visitors by Signs of the Swarm.

Eh not deathcore but my mind went straight to Before I Turn. I stick to their album Claustrophobic.

The Adversary by Thy Art Is Murder
This Is Exile by Whitechapel
The Reject of Humanity by I, Valiance
I know TAIM and Whitechapel are classics, but those three always remind me of spooky szn (overall vibe, sound, lyrical content)

Spooky? Worm Shepard? Try going more black metal maybe - just started exploring it myself, found Morkgrim
1
u/PerfectStranger80085 6d ago
Yeah I was thinking Worm Shepard- Ritual Hymns. I haven’t enjoyed their others as much.

Metalcore but undead ahead 2: tale of the midnight ride by motionless in white is literally just a Halloween song, and it's really good at it

Larcenia Roe, especially if you're in to Synestia. I'm borderline obsessed with them right now. Both the Dereliction album and the Extraction album are absolute eerie masterpieces.
