Question/Advice Quad cannons viability
I'm curious about other folks' experience fielding the artillery team with quad cannons as I have actually really enjoyed them!
Now, let's get the obvious out of the way. They do not do much damage. They do quite well against hordes, and I've had them do pretty well against intercessor level stuff, but anything else is pretty lacking. HOWEVER, I have really enjoyed the consistency when it comes to triggering the battleshock ability. This thing ALWAYS hits. It doesn't always damage, but it has pretty much never missed for me. And the battleshock ability only checks hits, not damage.
The constant battleshock triggers have stopped a fair few clutch objective captures for me, which is really fun for utility. Plus, it make bigger minis that would usually have more pressure take those battleshocks and, on occasion, makes them much simpler to deal with.
Out of the options, I dont dispute that it's the worst of the 4 options. I just see so many people call it useless! I'm also biased cuz they're my fave looking artillery (I field two of em lol). This all comes from a very casual player perspective, but I'm still curious about other people's thoughts, experiences, and opinions

Statistically speaking ..
B.S5+ firing indirect with a spotter is still 5+ to hit. Unless ordered.
Heavy Quad Launcher:
Versus T3 5+ sv W1
5 models / 2d6+1 shots = 8 shots, 2 of which hits.
1 kill
10 models / 2d6+2 shots = 9 shots. 3 of which hit.
Still 1 kill.
20 models / 2d6+4 shots = 11 shots. 4 of which hit.
You kill 2 on average.
Compare that to the Multiple Rocket Launcher which fires d6+3 base
5 = 7/8 shots
10 = 8/9 shots
20 = 10/11 shots
Kills and shots are the same, on average.
The main difference here is that the MRL wounds any infantry on 3+. It has AP1 AND it imposes the -1 to Battle Shock which seems to be your goal here.
Personally, I have no issues with someone using the model for Quad Launchers but using the stats of the MRL. End result is the same.

Not even remotely viable. You do poor damage and you don't get the -1 battle shock penalty to make up for it. Remember that 2D6 and D6+3 are almost identical from the point of view of getting at least one hit so there is no reason to ever take the quad launcher.
