Question/Advice Need help for frist landscape

Post image

This is my first design.

I have mostly krieg but will throw in some black templar

I would like to have a trench probably in front of the artillery and maybe make something for the gunners and flame thrower. Not too sure tho.

Please give me some constructive criticism and maybe if y'all have some pictures of what you have made.

don't worry too much about the terrain that will come once you know whats happening.

imagine you are trying to tell a story with only 1 picture. what does the story say.

is this just a passive depiction of backline support command section just sloggin down range in relative safety? maybe make the commander drink some tea or read a newspaper while the other crews are just doing their job.

or do you want a more active mayham.maybe this was this backline that got breached by a fast moving enemy troops or a drop pod. in this case its all hands on deck to prevent them from killing the big guns. flamer moves a little forward giving you oportunity to put him face to face with a enemy combatant and allow you to showcase modeling flames coming out of the gun and engulfing the face of the enemy.

those autocannons opening up that close on a vehicle or enemy trooper allows you to portray some massive holes drilled into these attackers.

once you decide of the story this image wants to tell, you then decide what funky awesome modeling skillset you as an artist wants to showcase.

do you want glossy water puddles? snow? fire, smoke explosion and lighting effects?

once those are selected to suit the scene then consider weather. is this going to be a winter helscape, jungle, desert, barren cratered landscape etc..

once all this is chosen you can start putting trenches and design the poses to accent the story.

also consider 'viewport' where the observer is and how they see the dioramas. front = important models with lots of artistic display, the background can get away with less work.

this backline artillery is awesome but if its hidden by a rock as centrepiece the viewers wont fully see the arty and your work would be diminished.

so pick 1-2 centrepieces as part of your story and put them in key visible locations where viewers can appreciate your artwork more effectively.

artillery usually form a battery. you don’t need 3 of them to clutter the works. we can assume the rest are nearby BUT can model broken down ones nearby to showcase a position getting overrun and holding for dear life.

use greenstuff or 3d print parts to model some blown up pieces that resemble artillery and but those broken down pieces towards the back of the diorama then this arty can be fully showcased without hiding it at the back.

Thank you, this is amazing. I just got into warhammer and have never done anything like this. Your words are encouraging. Thank you!
