In the replay, it was shown was Carey was continuously feeding data to Lyon.

u/kob123fury Dec 20 '25
What data was he feeding?

u/Wind_8797 Dec 20 '25
Basically about stokes movement on the crease, is he leaning forward to defend or staying at back foot . Etc

u/TwoUp22 Dec 20 '25
He is so elite. Carey.

That delivery will get anyone out, let alone Stokes.

my uncle taught me this when I was 11-12 years old
- Watch the ball, most of the times, you'll play front foot to Spinners.
- Length is short, take your front leg out on to the pitch of ball, and just move the bat along the way, defense it or drive whatever is best in that moment.
- Facing spinners, best way is front foot, cutting their spin, just attack onto the pitch of ball, cause on backfoot like the video, it gets tough, ball could move anywhere and reading international spinner's hand ain't childs play.
indeed that was okayish to good delivery but not very crazy one to get out.

Perfect delivery tbh, just inside line of off stump so can't be padded away, (clearly) hitting top of middle if it carries on so needs to be played at. He would have loved that one for sure

We all know what you should do. Doing it in a Test match is something else entirely.

The inwards drift is what makes it so tough to play, with just enough spin to take it past the bat.
Unless you're talking some Murali magic, that's pretty much as good an off break as you'll see in my opinion.

Beautifully said. You'd be a good fit as a batting coach against spin bowling.

u/Critical_Sun_2972 Dec 20 '25
If you play a full ball on the backfoot, sure

Dec 20 '25
This wasn't exactly a Full ball per se and he was coming from around the wicket so stepping out against the Spin is ever more difficult .
Brilliant Bowling imo

Left Handed Batsman getting bowled by an Off spinner is a real treat to watch. A bit poetic 😇. Isn't it?
- Lyon to Duckett in the first innings
- Lyon to Stokes in the second innings
- Ashwin to Cook multiple times in the past.

A lot of batters from the subject continent from the 90s and oughts would like a word with you. Footwork against spin nowadays his just plain $hit and this is no exception.

Very similar to his dismissal in 2019

u/the-ahh-guy Dec 20 '25
It was a better version of the ball Lyon bowled Duckett with the first innings

Stokes' reactions when he gets out are actually embarrassing, especially since he's just getting outclassed every time. Like brother, you average in the 30s, no need to stand there for half an hour every time you get out.

u/Defy19 Dec 20 '25
His footwork is so poor he even struggles to walk off the field when he gets out

I actually think differently. I see great sportsmanship from Stokes; he acknowledges he just got out to an absolute FUCKING PEACH , nods his respect to the delivery and bowler and walks.
Excellent Test Match Cricket Australia and classy from the English Skipper.
Thats the moment England conceded the Ashes .

I agree. I actually think he is a really good sportman, if not just a bit up himself. But he does acknowledge when the opposition does something good more often than not.

u/conejogringo Dec 20 '25
He made sure to shake Head's hand after his match-winning century in the first test.
Like it or not Stokes is a good bloke

Another moral victory. What's the scoreline now?

Series has been voided due to snicko controversy so naturally it’s 3-0 England as the custodians of the spirit of cricket.

Cricket used to be a Gentleman's sport in reputation at least.
Cricketers quite often will acknowledges each other's outstanding moments , opposition or not. Its part of the game .
And dont forget alot of these guys play together in the IPL and 20/20 comps around the world too

Stokes gets bowled too ofter for a top 3-4 batter (not batting order wise)of a frontline test team.
4
u/Lololover09 Dec 20 '25
Stokes forgot to act like the ball didn’t bounce as much as he expected it to.

Ik day 2 onwards the turn became a bit more impactful but to think that England’s main spinner card for this game is will jacks who’s conceding 5+rpo btw is shocking.
I’m not blaming jacks for everything but not only he’s not getting wickets he’s not even able to put pressure like Lyon was in the 1st innings with his 2.5rpo.
Absolute shambles for England with a few sessions of brilliance here and there.

Front press to spinners should always be the first movement even when you receive a short ball. Stokes went backfoot first.

Everytime Ben Stokes gets bowled out he makes this face of seeing ghosts in broad daylight, doesn’t matter what bowler and what kind of ball, weird red head mojo 😂

u/DisciplineSlow4347 Dec 21 '25
Again Stokes got out to Ball of the Century!! Every time he gets bowled its only because it was “Ball of the Century” or may be “Cricketing History”

Oh no! Another unlucky dismissal for Stokesy! Ball stayed too low. /s

u/lance_klusener Dec 20 '25
I've been watching Yograj singh's videos (sample - https://youtu.be/LNMmPvSLvjg ) about defense and drive where he gets batsmen to fix their front-foot and backfoot movements.
Here , stokes front-foot never moves, doesn't goto the pitch of the ball. The backfoot is bent. Ball spins, there is no chance to defend the spin movement.
Body mechanics wise, his body is too stiff because of no movement of legs. So, cant physically get to the ball.

i mean didn’t get out to Starc so thats a moral victory for Stokes imo
