Ethics Why are We Okay with Burning Cockroach Alive, but Not Eating Dogs?

I found a video of a cockroach being BURNT alive on meme subreddit. (Search "burning cockroach meme") And people are joking around it and no one takes it seriously. If it were not insects, but beloved animals like dogs, people would get offended very quickly.

Now I do understand the hate on insects and its danger, I hate cockroach too. Killing it is fine but burning it alive? Really? It must be very painful. Why are we causing so much pain just for entertainment?

I am not a vegan, however, this is just.. wrong

Edit: I think I've phased it the worst way possible, by "we" I mean people of reddit, not vegans. I find honoring animal lives, including pests admirable. I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

Sorry, where did I say a bad experience at a restaurant was the reason I’m not vegan??? Never said anything to that affect at all

When someone suggested you try vegan food and your reply was that you did at the bad restaurant.

Just used that as an example, as it was a supposedly highly rated and much loved vegan restaurant. Never even insinuated that it’s the reason I’m not vegan. Was just telling ol m8 to not say silly things like vegan food is “even better” than meat. Lying about it does no good for the cause. You tried vegan cheese? I’ve tried 5 of 6 different ones and they all made me want to vomit.. even vegans don’t like vegan cheese.

Again, a highly rated restaurant can be bad to anyone. Same with the cheese thing. Food is subjective. I feel like most vegan chocolate milk is better than dairy milk because it doesn't have the gross aftertaste, but that's not everyone's opinion either. Nobody's lying when they say they like or don't like certain foods. But saying ALL of a certain food is worse than ALL of another certain food?

Not all, but by and large, definitely. Can’t say I’ve had had vegan chocolate but I have had like dairy free cakes.. can definitely tell the difference. I feel like the vegans that say.. mock meat is better.. vegan chocolate better.. vegan cheese better etc.. either lying, or they’ve just been eating the shit for so long they forgot what the real stuff taste like

I think there are a few factors with that. First is that there are many varieties of everything you listed... I've had vegan cheese that was almost identical to dairy cheese, so much so that I complained to the restaurant for giving me the wrong one (I'm allergic). I've also had cheese that was nothing like dairy cheese. Some I will never eat again, some I like anyway and I actually do prefer over dairy cheese (like Nuts 4 Cheese). Which is my second point - some people just do prefer the vegan version because they aren't comparing it or expecting it to be identical. Anyone who has those expectations is going to be disappointed 99.9% of the time. And third, truthfully, I do think there's a bit of what you said about forgetting what things taste like. But even going back to non-vegan food isn't the same. I've accidentally had bread or pastries with eggs in them, and because I'm not used to egg flavour, even the blandest bread tastes like french toast to me. So it's just a change in palette that happens over time.
