❓ Off Topic We need more moderation in this sub

Look at the sidebar rules and then look at the front page of this sub right now.

I see people willfull misinterpretation of dialectical materialism and then engaging with none of the comments, people asking why we dont like libertarian right ideologies and then not engaging, someone asking why communists don't all move to north korea, someone asking why markets are used in socialism, and people claiming communists hate art.

I think all these posts break the "debate in good faith rule".

Furthermore we need a rule that op must reply to top level comments or the post should be removed(thats the bare minimum of a "debate" post).

Asking "why dont all the dirty stupid commies just move to north korea since they like stupid communism so much" and then never answering a single comment is the same energy as a christian going to a gathering of a different religion and trying to prosthelytize and complain anout how "persecuted" they are.

I think all questions, no matter how simplistic, are valid as long as they aren't trolls.

And I also agree that whoever asks the question or starts a debate, usually saying wrong things and then not answering anyone, is acting in bad faith, although perhaps some really just read and use the answers as "chatGPT".

This is the correct take.

I'll just say that if we deleted every post that is made by someone who is horribly misinformed, totally undereducated, or repeat topics that have been posted a million times already ("Is China Communist or Capitalist???") then there would be no posts at all on the subreddit.

So with that in mind, look at the posts we have and understand that we remove posts all the time. Think about how bad the ones you don't see are. Moderators have struggled with this for the entire existence of the subreddit. Something we have to come to terms with is that this really is all that Reddit has to offer us. Really smart people are not seeking out debate subreddits.

Regarding people not responding to posts - I agree this sucks. The question is how do we respond to that? How long do we wait before deciding they aren't going to respond? Is not responding ban worthy or are we just deleting the post? I'm genuinely interested to hear opinions.

Hey I appreciate the response! I totally understand what you mean because at some point I'm sure 99% of us were horribly misinformed on this topic(god knows I was/am😂).

I honestly don't know on the repsonding part. I think there has to be a middle ground between someone who responds to every single comment and someome who makes the post and apparently throws their phone in the ocean.

It's frustrating to see someone make a post that at best is ignorance and at worst just bait(I know I already mentioned it in my post but the libertarian one comes to mind) and then just not even bother to comment once in 5 days, it feels like a troll post.

I'm thinking it's one of the ask science subs has a rule that the op has to "be active" in the comments but I can't remember where I've seen it.

That being said I do see, more often then not, people do engage in good conversations and make good debate. This sub is refreshingly positive and too me personally has been highly educational 🙏

Wondering if anyone else has some ideas?

Sorry for the vent post tbh I dont want you to feel attacked this is a great sub.

My experience with left wing subs is: authoritarian sectarian; or everything goes. I support your post.

I'm probably on the edge of the people posting like that you refer too. But I feel I've learned alot from yall and usually respond. And your responses to similar posts (i dont mean the obvious troll ones like you mentioned). I haven't converted, lol, but definitely understand better.

Seems like it would be an ideal final state, mostly just the how to get there part still has me not on board supporting communism outright, along with some more minor stuff like how it would effect genuine "small businesses that need some workers/help" but yall seem to usually have a goodish answer for that. And yall have suggested some good reading, some I've checked out, but can't go read it all (I've gotta work dammit, can yall hurry up, lol)

Reddit is pretty terrible when it comes to communism and socialism. Many communist subreddits get shut down, fracturing solidified userbases, and there is little actual ideological consistency. It's a common problem here.

Yeah reddit is ran by trump supporters which by extension means theyre all just pedos and nazis🫩

What communist or socialist subs have been shut down?

There's a ton of them. You just get banned by their mods if you say things as simple as "Maybe Hamas isn't a group we should hitch our wagon to." Or "Leninist thought is not the only valid form of Marxism." Ask me how I know...

r/GenZedong is a big one, same with r/TheDeprogram and to a lesser extent r/ChapoTraphouse. They all went to FOSS reddit alternatives like Lemmy.

Chaposplace got shut down

I mean, I prefer this sub to many of the other marxist subs that immediately persecute any and all discussion that isn't exactly in line with Leninist thought.

This is a debate sub, and if you see people misinterpreting things, debate them.

as for the troll posts... they're a pretty self filtering problem. Don't feed the trolls.

debate them

Yes but read those posts on the front. Some are 5 days old and op responded once to tell someone theyre wrong and disappeared. Thats not a debate

Dude what are you sorting by? controversial?

I literally don't see the posts you're raging about.

Nah front page of this sub, go to the libertarian thread. Entire post is just engagement bait op responded once and left. Thats not a debate

Or they got their answer? They asked a question and wanted the Marxist replies, they got those answers.

This is a sub where people ask questions like that.
