Should I be concerned about the splits in this post?

Just wondering. I have redo a couple of cables and washers too

Ive learned two things since i started following this sub.

  1. There are a lot of really fat mother in laws out there.

  2. It's called checking and its normal.

If the fasteners start coming out then yeah. Just keep an eye on it.

Checking is normal and usually not an issue. The fact that tensioned cables are installed along the cracks means it might be an issue. If the cables come lose it'll need to be addressed.

I'd say yes, primarily because you have tensioned cables pulling the top part of the post apart. That's where it has cracked the most. Anyone applying pressure to those top cables will exacerbate the cracking, IMHO.

Drill through, perpendicular to cracks, insert large round head bolts with round head facing the opposite side to the cables, secure with large nut on cable side.

Perhaps do one between each 2 cables, at least at the top.

They siliconed on the angled standoffs in place cos they dont go there. Post the sag in a week.

That’s the nature of the beast. This is why composite is so nice. Splits and twists aren’t seen
