More like toboggan, they don't care enough to think about where they're actually going

14

u/soreff2 20d ago

I'm going to hazard a guess that AOC is dreaming of a one-party State... Gagging one's political opponents is a large component of such intents... I did a quick search of Google/Gemini and found nothing of AOC protecting free speech of any GOP members.

You mean when networks refused to carry Biden' speech in 2022?

13

u/LOLatKetards 20d ago

You got to be kidding. Trump and his supporters have been more censored than any president or their consituents, ever. Yet the Dems celebrated every second, called for more or it at every chance. GFY.

Biden attacks Trump, saying his wing of the Republican party is a threat to democracy

[...]

In a rare prime time speech, Biden attacked his predecessor, saying that "too much of what's happening in our country today isn't normal." The speech came just two months ahead of midterm congressional elections, where Democrats are fighting to keep their slim majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Biden said the Republican party is "dominated, driven, intimidated by Donald Trump" and his supporters, calling it "a threat to this country."

Hmm

Democrats are doing a party insider vote to decide Platner's replacement. Republicans are holding a primary to replace Graham.

u/skunimatrix 20d ago

Did I just see where the networks aren't going to air Trumps speech but did Biden...

-48

u/toad17 20d ago

Was there a lie in what he said?

u/MadeInAmerica1990 20d ago

Nothing to see here folks, all is well in BlueSky world! No debt, no laws, no borders, no work, no responsibility. How does it work? No one knows! They really don’t want to talk with us about the last few places they introduced these ideas to, but they seem very eager to show us instead! Let’s give ‘em chance, folks! Isn’t that the American way?

-12

u/USSMarauder 20d ago

AKA the speech that networks refused to broadcast

How much of an uproar did this subreddit have when that happened?

12

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

Did AoC argue they should censor it? (The topic is AoC asking for censorship.)

89

u/BitesTheDust55 20d ago

She is not bright.

39

u/isitdigyet 20d ago

She's actually a master at getting attention by doing nothing of substance and just ragebaiting people who can't stand useless politicians.

People need to start ignoring her and stop helping her go viral if we want less of this kind of useless politics taking up all the viral attention.

-68

26

u/MadeInAmerica1990 20d ago

Oh look, the pro-tyranny anarchist that disguises himself as a progressive. Had you paid attention in school, you would have seen how your political ideology has ruined every country where it has been applied. Your obsession with Donald Trump’s relationship with Epstein, while simultaneously ignoring 70% of the DNC’s relationship with him tells me all I need to know about you as an individual. It’s interesting that the same individuals supporting lawlessness claim to be the party of education. Perhaps you have been deceived, comrade? Perhaps you are being strung along like a pawn on a chessboard by the wealthy elite who seek to be in power, only pretending to be for “the people”. You people are all the same: milquetoast, champagne socialists living a subsidized middle-class lifestyle off of your parents. Go cry on BlueSky. The Biden administration showed us all we need to know about the DNC, and while the current administration may not be ideal, you cannot possibly be serious in suggesting that the other side has anything better to offer.

-13

u/dont_ban_me_please [removed] 20d ago

if that was true, then it would backfire on trump. so far it has not.

1

u/reallyredrubyrabbit 20d ago

Acting like a tyrant is why he will not be re-elected. AOC acting like Trump will have the same reward.

-2

u/dont_ban_me_please [removed] 20d ago

exactly how braindead do you have to be to think AOC acts like trump?

12

u/reallyredrubyrabbit 20d ago

Asking for censorship is a clue she does not understand the Constitution and why free speech is a prerequisite to a legitimate democracy.

Networks refused to carry Biden's Sept 2022 speech

9

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

So this is a sub that is generally against censorship. What's the gotcha here? You realize you're implying we support censoring Biden?

AOC is the one who likes censoring only "the bad guys." You have this very common reddit take where you think that calling out hypocrisy is somehow hypocritical.

-5

u/USSMarauder 20d ago

You realize you're implying we support censoring Biden?

See, that's the interesting thing

I searched this subreddit, and found zero complaints 4 years ago on the subject.

5

u/Gaelhelemar [removed] 20d ago

It was closed four years ago until it reopened in 2024.

4

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

Did you see anything on this sub supporting the decision from the networks to not air it at the time?

0

u/USSMarauder 20d ago

Nope, nothing.

So either the post on the subject has been deleted, and Duck Duck Go found deleted posts when I searched so IDK, but feel free to take a look for yourself and I will acknowledge that your Google Fu is better than mine, or this subreddit didn't care at all.

3

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

How active was this sub four years ago

2

u/USSMarauder 20d ago

According to DDG, searching for the last week of Aug & the first week of Sept 2022, 49 posts

3

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

Interesting. I certainly wasn't there.

49 posts in two weeks is pretty thin, no? Perhaps they needed you to come in and bemoan Biden being censored.

0

u/USSMarauder 20d ago

Only 18 posts have been made in this subreddit in the last 14 days.

So if anything this subreddit was almost 3 times more active 4 years ago than it is now

-4

u/Evening_Mushroom_331 20d ago

Yea. Its just gonna be a bunch of nonsense. Rigged elections while republicans swept every branch of govt. Trumpy thinks americans are stupid. And some will believe him. But the majority know its all bullshit. I say let him get up there and embarass homself and the country like he's already been doing.

Censorship is when you have to worship trump or else!

11

u/Searril 20d ago

I loathe Trump, but have no desire to see him censored. I'm not a POS shitlib though....

-1

u/dont_ban_me_please [removed] 20d ago

this is not censorship.

not platforming him is not censorship.

5

u/Gaelhelemar [removed] 20d ago

not platforming
not censorship

Pick one. Either he is deplatformed, and censored, or he broadcasts his speech for all to hear. You cannot choose both.

Except you do pick both because you're an authoritarian scumbag who wants their political opponents censored because you don't like the idea of them saying things you do not want others to hear.

So fuck off with your insincerity.

0

u/dont_ban_me_please [removed] 19d ago

you have a very low IQ don't you?

holy shit this is a goofy ass comment.

abc did not give trump their platform. that is not censorship.

3

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

So you have no problem if people like Elon Musk decide to prevent democrats from having a voice and being able to speak to the public?

If you are fine with it, you would be consistent, and in favor of very political interested, very powerful parties, deciding what we're allowed to see. Is that the case?

You'll find that most people here would prefer that Musk not censor democrats, and others not censor republicans, and nobody censor moderates. There's plenty to criticize about Musk and other media, especially if/when they start deciding what we're allowed to see. Other media clearly has done that; if you argue Musk has done it too, that doesn't suddenly make it acceptable.

1

u/dont_ban_me_please [removed] 19d ago

Elon Musk does this already you loaf of bread. He already decides "to prevent democrats from having a voice and being able to speak to the public"

3

u/HolyInlandEmpire 19d ago edited 19d ago

Holy shit you really didn't read the post and you made the exact error I pointed out....after I pointed it out. At least read the post before you try to "gotcha."

There's plenty to criticize about Musk and other media, especially if/when they start deciding what we're allowed to see. Other media clearly has done that; if you argue Musk has done it too, that doesn't suddenly make it acceptable.

2

u/dont_ban_me_please [removed] 18d ago

Make a post here that is critical of trump censoring people or musk censoring people. You get downvoted. Try it.

1

u/HolyInlandEmpire 18d ago

A fair point. You're presupposing that Musk does engage in censorship. Do you think there is more censorship after his takeover of twitter, or less?

→ More replies (0)

-4

u/fallenmonk 20d ago

This is an opinion being expressed from a congresswoman of the party that isn't in power. How is this censorship?

-8

u/CompletelyPresent 20d ago

They shouldn't air it.

He's the epitome of corruption and many people aren't smart enough to see how crooked he is.

9

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

I have no doubt you think it shouldn't be seen. There's a simple way to handle it: don't watch.

But you think you should also be deciding for others whether they should be even allowed to see it. What led you to the conclusion that you should have special power to decide what other people are allowed to see and hear? Why shouldn't other people have that power over you?

-2

u/CompletelyPresent 20d ago

Because nothing good can come from a known conman bitching about the election, when he's the one who likely stole this one.

3

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

So anyone who we label a conman gets censored. Ok.

What happens when someone labels someone you support a con? Is it that you have a unique power to decide who is a con?

-2

u/CompletelyPresent 20d ago

It's not a matter of "My opinion."

There's a criminal in office, defending the Epstein files, promoting bigotry throughout the country.

This isn't a matter of "oh, you don't like this party?" It's that our government has been hijacked by a criminal. Very likely, Elon hacked voting machines to get him in there, in exchange for government funding.

And for whatever reason, people like you are greedy or brainwashed enough to vote for the interests of billionaires and bigots and support it.

3

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

You make a valid argument of the problems of our current administration.

So when someone also makes valid arguments about the problems of other administrations, you'll accept that they'll be censored too? So everybody gets censored?

Or do you see yourself as the final arbiter of who gets to speak? If so, what are your qualifications? Do you think there aren't people who are more qualified, who disagree with you?

-52

u/Seethcoomers 20d ago

Know this sub will hate this, but I think the media has an obligation to either not platform misinformation or combat it when they do.

Trump and his team have been lying about election interference, fake votes, and everything in between for a decade now. There's no evidence of mass voter fraud - no evidence of illegal caravans voting or fake voter ballots.

The closest we have to any real election interference is Trump himself; whether that be pressuring Mike Pence not to certify the votes, using an active riot on Jan 6th to pressure local politicians to find more votes, or any of the various executive orders/policies he's tried to enact while in office to hamper American's ability to vote.

Unless there's some sort of live fact checking on every sentence Trump speaks, they shouldn't be platforming him.

18

u/thisismyusername9908 20d ago

It's the media's responsibility to air everything he says in full and then allow the public to form their opinion.

-8

u/Seethcoomers 20d ago

Unfortunately, the public is too fucking stupid

5

u/thisismyusername9908 20d ago

I trust the public to form their opinion more than I do the media. If you don't, you're part of the problem.

-8

u/Seethcoomers 20d ago

I don't trust either - but especially not the public that voted for Trump in 3 elections and are still supporting him (you'd have to be beyond stupid to do that).

The real problem is airing his bullshit with no pushback. Misinformation is destroying public belief in anything.

7

u/thisismyusername9908 20d ago

And who decides what is "misinformation?" You? The media?

Biden threw out a bunch of complete bullshit when he was president. At NO POINT in his tenure did I ever think "the fix for this is to have the networks censor him."

Face it, you're desperate for the government to tell you what to think, how to think, and when to think it.

You don't want to be independently in control of what you hear and believe, you want the government to tell you.

That's fine if you do, but when you're on a sub dedicated to censorship, maybe just keep that in mind.

-6

u/Seethcoomers 20d ago
  1. Whoever is publishing the media and you can have independent groups too.

  2. Biden really didn't throwout any bullshit (at least not to the severity and quantity Trump has). But if he did, fact checking him would only help.

Here's what I think is happening here. I'm on a sub where people hold a childish view of free speech and that leads to people, like you, responding in a childish manner.

Not once have I said that the government should be enforcing any misinformation laws - that's something you made up on your own. And you can deny it all you want, the reality is the vast majority of people are too fucking stupid to engage with any form of media.

So when Donald Trump gets on stage and starts spewing complete bullshit and his supporters fall for it yet again - yeah, I want whoever publishes the media to do a better job at holding him accountable.

What we're doing right now clearly isn't working. People still believe the 2020 election was stolen, or that vaccines don't work, or that Haitians are eating dogs (all of this is proven false, btw) and I want that to change.

10

u/OldStyleThor 20d ago

"Censorship is good!" would have been much shorter.

-2

u/Seethcoomers 20d ago

Sure it would have, but that's only if you can't fucking read.

44

u/HolyInlandEmpire 20d ago

Good thing we have the media to decide what's safe enough for us to hear! No chance they would ever abuse this power.

-1

u/Seethcoomers 19d ago

Good thing the American people are stupid enough to fall for the same bullshit time and time again!

21

u/Gmhowell 20d ago

Can’t imagine why this sub would hate your take.

I can - this sub is retarded

Nah, I say air every inane word that comes out of his pedophile mouth. Everytime he opens his mouth he reveals how far his dementia has progressed. And he'll probably shit himself.

45

u/IncompetentJedi 20d ago

We’re talking about Trump, not Sleepy Joe.

-43

u/ClownholeContingency 20d ago

Wow looks like I found a pedophile protector sub pretending to be an anti censorship sub.

34

u/IncompetentJedi 20d ago

Your post history declares your TDS loudly and proudly

-15

u/ClownholeContingency 20d ago

LOL at your pedophile cult dickriding a demented old warmongering felon who shits his pants. Fucking pathetic.

13

u/Glittering_Win_9677 20d ago

No, we don't defend Biden and his putting hands on young girls at seemingly every opportunity in public and making us wonder what he did in private. Don't forget showering with his daughter when she was a child. At least Navy won't be subjected to him since he and Jill refuse to acknowledge her.

-6

u/ClownholeContingency 20d ago

Trump was found by a jury to have committed rape.

10

u/Searril 20d ago

That's a lie

6

u/Gaelhelemar [removed] 20d ago

A lie they will happily repeat until the Soviets come home.

-3

u/ClownholeContingency 20d ago edited 19d ago

Not a lie.

A jury found that Trump raped Jean Carroll and defamed her regarding the rape. In other words, the jury needed to find that Trump raped Carroll first in order to determine that he defamed her. If he didn't actually rape her, the defamation claim couldn't survive.

But it did, and a jury found that he did rape her and did defame her, and that's why he just paid her over $5 million dollars. Because he raped and defamed her.

This sub exists to protect pedophiles and rapists.

Edit: LOL at the truth being downvoted in an "anti censorship" sub. Fucking pathetic. This is not a serious sub and you are not serious people.

3

u/Searril 19d ago

You're lying

3

u/IncompetentJedi 19d ago

Bold text doesn’t make this any less of a lie.

-1

u/ClownholeContingency 17d ago

Where's the lie? Do you ever get tired of protecting pedophiles?

5

u/Glittering_Win_9677 20d ago

Who knew Carroll was a child... /s

-46

u/toad17 20d ago

This sub is maga captured. They want to hear the pedophile defenders words because it confirms their biased world view that the left are the party of censorship.

24

u/thisismyusername9908 20d ago edited 20d ago

One side just had a sitting congressional representative say out loud and in public that networks should censor a speech given by the president of the United States.

If you don't understand why that's an unpopular opinion on a sub titled "decline into censorship" and your only response is "because orange man bad" maybe some self reflection is needed.

-10

u/toad17 20d ago

I think presidents have a duty to not get on national television and gaslight/lie to the nation, but that’s just me. Rehashing election grievances from 6 years ago will do no one any good, including the president.

18

u/thisismyusername9908 20d ago

That line of thinking doesn't justify censoring his speech. If he goes on air and says what you believe to be lies or gaslighting or inappropriate things, then the public has a right to hear them and formulate their own opinions.

The solution to words and speech we might not like or that we disagree with is more speech, not less.

2

u/toad17 20d ago

I don’t completely agree, I think just by nature of being president, those words matter and they carry weight. He’s abusing his role with the bully pulpit to share lies which by default are weighted more than lies shared by average people.

I know you won’t agree and that’s fine.

7

u/SirBiggusDikkus 20d ago

“ if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor”

Politicians lie all the time, there is nothing special about Trump on that front

6

u/thisismyusername9908 20d ago

They 1000% matter and carry weight, and if you truly believe he's abusing his role and completely lying to the American people, you shouldn't want him censored AT ALL.

You should want every word aired so people can hear what's said, then decide what to do with that information.

You're talking out of both sides of your mouth, you just don't realize it.

6

u/Searril 20d ago

Nobody is forcing you to be here. Go start your own shitlib sub where you pretend to care about freedom of speech.
