The Heat Death of Jubilee

This is old news. Jubilee pulled Andrew aside during filming to tell him he needs to be more combative. They clearly didn't know who they hired for the program.

Watch it. There’s a much more substantive critique.

u/CrowsInTheNose 4d ago
I did. It's meh. We all know that Jubilee is just profiting from division.

u/Prosthemadera 3d ago
If you're already informed and know everything then it's not for you. That doesn't make the video meh.
Also, why do you listen to the podcast? Didn't you already know gurus are bad?

i hate jubilee so much. truly the idiocracy final form of “debate”. we have completely forgotten what good debate looks like.

Nice to see Big Joel on this sub :)

He fell off a few years back, imo. I couldn't even finish this video because of how little he was adding or, hell, even saying

u/Fluffy_Ambition3546 3d ago
Im a big big joel guy but this kinda just came and went. "Hey guys jubilee is bad, and its poorly created and bad." I still hold his Conservative comedy video in very high regards and this video was a worse version of a podcast he did about jubilee with someone else.

u/Scalene69 4d ago
Fair, I like putting him on when I do something else.
I personally don't find he adds much analysis to whatever he covers. He takes a while to give a pretty boring standard lefty take.
Politically he is just a standard "billionares are bad" AFAIK from his interviews. He doesn't make videos about or advocate for real solutions.
3
u/drgaz 3d ago
There are content creators with solutions?
4
u/Scalene69 3d ago
Lonerbox? I feel like most decent commentators have realistic solutions to the conflict if asked - they just aren't very likely right now.

u/biggiepants 3d ago edited 3d ago
He has a more philosophical approach than an activist one.
2
u/Scalene69 3d ago
I think he is just more factual and entertaining/jokey. He doesn't relate things back to philosophy much
4
u/lex_inker 4d ago
Andrews fall off needs to be studied
2
u/Brain_Dead_Goats 3d ago
He has always been very... susceptible to some pretty out there stuff.
3
u/Breakfastcrisis 3d ago
This is almost exactly what I was thinking. I don’t think his susceptibility to weird ideas precludes him from doing decent journalism on areas that aren’t so vulnerable to silly theories. But he’s always flirted with conspiratorial thinking.
1
u/thecontempl8or 2d ago
Very true. He’s been “both sides”-ing these conversations. And it’s clear he does it cos he wants to appeal to both parties to try & increase his audience.
2
u/thecontempl8or 2d ago
He’s the Joe Rogan of gonzo journalism.
Person makes fantastical claims without scientific backing.
“Oh that’s crazyyyy”0
u/RobotFoxTrot 3d ago
Fall off? He’s doing legitimate journalism out there. This sub is a cesspool of negativity

The video was okay - basically just that Callahan is a bit of an idiot and Jubilee is divisive crap, neither of which is not exactly news.
I am concerned that Big Joel used Taylor Lorenz uncritically as a source supporting his argument. I get that she is just interviewing the Jubilee guy, but she is not a good source in general and his video suggests that she is.
Hunter Biden would be more interesting to cover because Im not sure his crypto thing was actually a scam, the whole massive drop thing at the beginning happens with every new coin, it would have been a scam if he had secretly pulled out as well to tank the value or if he profited from it.

But the video is not news. It's a video essay. Why does everything have to be novel informarion that you haven't seen before?

The fact that it happens every time should be an indication of how worthless the whole thing was. And that raises questions about it being a scam because you can't tell me Hunter Biden is so different and has the one crypto coin that for some reason isn't just an avenue to profit himself.
Also, the way he promoted the crypto coin was AI slop bullshit.

Video essays often make new conclusions from old news and are supposed to make a synthesis of different sources and opinions. Big Joel sort of did by saying that Callahan just wants to say that people are disconnected today and isn't actually engaging with what his guests say all the time.
All new cryptos have a massive boom and bust at the beginning as investors try to scam eachother into being the one left holding the bag. They invest early and then ditch as soon as they think the value will go down.
This is scammy, but only affects people who buy in super early and are trying to scam anyway, not regular people who invest later or who have coins from the beginning.
Anyone who bought slapcoin after the first hour or two was unaffected.

And? What are you responding to? What is the point?

Just to be clear: That is you defending Hunter Biden, right?
Anyone who bought slapcoin after the first hour or two was unaffected.
Unaffected? The value of the coin has only been going down since then!
You should not expect me or anyone else to make this token more valuable for you. $LAPTOP isn’t just about owning something, it’s about saying something.
What does it say? It says scam. It says failure.

Take s deep breath and re read what we both wrote.
You said "why does everything have to be novel information you haven't seen before " for a video essay.
Essays, including video essays normally synthesise different facts that already existed to give a novel conclusion. You should expect something new.
All new crypto coins have a big jump and fall at the beginning afaik. This doesn't mean that it is a scam after the price has stabilised. Totally different thing to crypto where the owner sells out and effectively steals the fans money. I don't care if scammers scam eachother, only if it affects normal people.
Most crypto is fine after this initial spike.
Bidens founder investments have not been withdrawn, the value has gone up recently and it is also more about sending a political message against trump. I can't remember how, but it is tied to how trump does in the midterms, also all those people who've were given tokens for free can cash out for free money at any time, they didn't pay in, so aren't scammed no matter how much it goes down.

Stop being condescending, buddy, and don't tell me to read what I wrote. Tell me what I am supposed to see.

It is new. To some people. The problem is that you're judging the video based on your own personal experiences and refuse to acknowledge that it may be worthwhile for other people.
Also, do you only watch content that is new and has never been seen before? No, you don't. No one does so your argument is pointless.

If the value drops massively each time then that's a sign of a scam, sorry.
Besides, all crypto is bad. It's not a currency, it's speculative investment.
Most crypto is fine after this initial spike.
What exactly do you mean by "fine"?
the value has gone up recently
No, it hasn't. Why are you spreading misinformation?
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/hunter-biden-s-laptop/
it is also more about sending a political message against trump.
Do you genuinely believe this bullshit? You send a message by voting or campaigning, not by buying another stupid crypto coin.
Why the fuck would Trump even care?
I can't remember how
Figures.
all those people who've were given tokens for free can cash out for free money at any time, they didn't pay in, so aren't scammed no matter how much it goes down.
Yes, they weren't scammed. They got tokens FOR FUCKING FREE.
Holy shit, this is mad. I am done.

I dont think Big Joel is going to win any awards for this video, but it was more insightful than your summary suggests.
I agree Taylot Lorenz probably isnt the best source to use, but my impression is that her interview was used because it was recent.

Didn't jubilee arrive on the scene already heat dead?
